Cleaning a silo ......

December 08, 2008

Posted by Joe Lewis at 05:34 PM | Comments (0)

One of the things that has always intrigued me as I have been working in the instrumentation end of the powder and bulk solids industries was the devices used to clean out a silo.

As most everyone knows bulk solids that are hygroscopic can be problematic because of their propensity to absorb moisture.  Many times when this occurs the material becomes very difficult to flow.

What's one of the worst jobs in the world?  Cleaning out one of these clogged silos manually.  Take a look!  Want to hang from a cable and operate an air hammer to break up a huge hardened sugar mass inside a silo?

Fortunately there are solutions.  Take a look at this cleaning device you can buy or rent.
