Dear Mr. Walker,
A German manufacterer used to and may still have a company that produces a ceramic bolt on lagging going by the trade name Micke. This is / was a product, formed steel shell, provided in half sections, and plated (cast) with a ceramic (sand) fine grit, epoxyed to the shell. The shell edges where drilled and tapped to bolt the lagging onto the pulley.
I tried a search with no success. This style of lagging has lost favor because of its treatment of the belt - to abrasive. It grinds of the belt cover when the belt needs to slip as it creeps from the physics imposed. There are other problems with this lagging that lead me to be verbose. I will skip this added dialog.

why does it have to be ceramic? would rubber not work? much much cheaper. we have a product called slide-lag it's not a bolt on lagging however it uses metal retainers that are welded to the pulley face and the lagging pades slide into the retainers and when belt tension is placed on the pulleys they are locked in place.
if you need any info please contact me.

Dear Mr Walker,
I introduced Slide Lag to Australia in 1971 -it is great product but I presume you may need more co-efficient of friction. What are your operating conditions ? We solved most problems with Slide Lag but big mines operating in very wet tropical conditions in places like New Guinea had to use Micke ceramic lagging. It resembled concrete stuck on preformed steel shells held together with a urethane binder. I don't know if it is still around but it was mighty expensive on your pocket and on your belt !!!
I have been out of the business for some time but I am looking for a breakthrough pulley lagging that is better than SlideLag (it has a few problems welding to high tension pulleys which is why cold bond lagging is now preferred) and better than the new bonded ceramic laggings. So if you come across anything such as you are seeking appreciate if you let me know. I am also looking for other breakthrough mining related products - I need another Slidelag -which I sold to a third of the world !!!

Bolt-on Micke lagging is alive and kicking. I have just installed it on 3 large diameter pulleys on a client's project (their request). It is not really 'tiles' but rather full width 1/4 circular sectors of the circumference bolted on each end with an epoxy 'filler' underneath (i.e. not glued on). If you tell me the size you are looking for I might even be able to find some good second hand ones for you. Otherwise, for new ones, call Jochen Goller at Gomicke email gomicke [gomicke@bigpond.com]
