Remscheid, Germany -- Qatar Fertilizer Corporation is planning the start up of the fifth production line for UREA Fertilizer in Mesaied, Quatar. The fifth production line will be the largest of its kind. 3.800 t/d screened Urea granulate will be produced by Rhewum screens.
Ordering party is the Italian plant engineering company Snamprogetti which is part of the Saipem Group. Snamprogetti is handling as general contractor and has broad experiences in Urea granulation due to various former projects in this area. Licenser of the Urea granulation is Uhde Fertilizer Technology which as multiple partner of Qafco also guarantees the success of this project.
In the granulation two bin extractors in combination with linear motion screens will ensure the filling level of the fluidized bed granulator as well as protect screen the fresh Urea. Downstream four screening plants will process up to 400 t/h. This will be realized by four multiple deck screens (MDS) Type 2000x2800/11(3x3) – the largest of their kind.
Each machine has an active screening area of 50,4m². In comparison to conventional systems the production cycles between cleaning intervals will be extended significant because of this large screening area. The high quality standard of the customer is reflected in the choice of the material of the machines: all parts will be made of stainless steel type 1.4571 (AISI 316Ti) at Rhewum GmbH.
About Urea
Urea was the first synthesized organic compound ever. It first was found in 1773 as an own substance.
Due to its high nitrogen content of 46% Urea is the most important nitrogen fertilizer worldwide. Additionally it is also used as NOx reducer. Nowadays in countries with large natural gas deposits this gas is converted into Urea.
Natural gas, air and water are composed to Urea. During the ammonia production the incoming CO2 is bound as Urea and so is not released to the atmosphere. The firstly liquid Urea is changed into solids by prilling or in a fluidized bed granulator. After processing the Urea is distribzuted as fertilizer. The offspec-product of the granulation is recycled in the process.
