Fill-Pass Valve Helps Flour Miller

  .
Salina, KS -- Challenge: Transport graded baking flour via a closed-loop conveying system from individual, grade specific holding bins to two weigh hoppers for blending and load out. Locate a valve that will allow each weigh hopper to receive different quantities of grade specific flour through four, different conveying lines at a flour miller.

Results: Four, stacked Vortex Fill-Pass Diverter Valves solved the problem. The design of the Fill-Pass Diverter allows individual valves to be stacked on top of one another. Each valve is attached to a separate conveying line that can convey required amounts of different materials into each weigh hopper (located beneath the valve stack).

In this application, a DA53-8SSHS hopper stackable valve with weigh hopper cover is the base valve. On top of this valve are two DA43-8SSSF and one DA33-8SSSF stackable flange mount valves. The different grades of flour are conveyed, one at a time, through the Fill-Pass Diverter and batched weighed in the weigh hoppers.

Besides offering the ability to accommodate conveying lines handling different materials, the Vortex Fill Pass provides a positive material shut off – resulting in accurate scale weights. No additional material is added to the bin once it has been weighed.

The spread design of the inlet and outlet stacks provide improved air and material separation to reduce fill time and down line material carryover.
