Powerfleet, specialists in materials handling equipment, has been appointed exclusive distributors in the USA for the innovative Mobicon mobile container handling system, which was designed and manufactured in Australia and assembled in the USA.
“This new container handling system is designed to efficiently lift loads onto and off trucks and to safely carry containers around sites, up ramps and into buildings. This system ensures improved productivity, faster handling times and reduced capital investment, as well as lower maintenance and operational costs. Maintenance requirements are minimal and safety for workers, equipment and containers, is significantly improved,” says Dean Mouritzen, president of Powerfleet. “An important advantage of the Mobicon is that it can utilize all parts of the yard and operates on gravel bitumen or lightweight pavements and in restrictive areas where other container handling equipment cannot go. This flexible container handler can work in tight spaces and is also able to travel under awnings, inside buildings and up to loading docks.”
With the lightest axle loading of any container handler in the world, the Mobicon has a 73 000 lb lift capacity and is able to carry any type or size ISO specified container, without the need for any modifications or additional lifting equipment. The low centre of gravity of this system enhances stability, preventing it from rolling over. This is the safest container handler on the market.
The Mobicon design, which is simple and effective, incorporates two independent towers and utilizes the container as the structural member linking the two towers.
The container is lifted from the bottom, which allows the operator to easily handle flat beds, tank containers, half heights, over heights and curtain sided containers. The two tower design provides the flexibility to be able to operate on slightly sloping or uneven surfaces, as well as compacted gravel yards, bitumen or standard lightweight concrete.
The simple design of the low maintenance Mobicon machine utilizes an economical four cylinder 60 hp diesel engine, coupled to a hydrostatic drive system, for reduced fuel costs. Consumption is 1.5 gallons an hour compared to 6 g/hr for other machines.
Mobicon eliminates the need for costly yard repairs. One of the biggest problems associated with using conventional equipment to load and unload containers, is damage caused to yards and pavements that are not suitable for carrying heavy weights.
The Mobicon container handler increases operational efficiency and reduces demurrage costs for trucks waiting to be loaded and unloaded. Containers can now be efficiently moved around sites, through warehouse doors, effectively taking the container to the stock or the stock to the receiving point. This capability also increases goods security and operational safety.
Enhanced safety has also been critical in the design of this machine. The operator now has a clear view of the working area and does not have to travel with a container 10 feet in the air, as with forklift trucks. Instead of staff having to work at a trailer height of 5 feet, they are now able to work safely at ground level.
Other advantages include easy handling of ramps and speed bumps, reduced on-site congestion and minimal damage to stock normally caused by long lift truck runs. It is no longer necessary to manage loads in wet weather conditions and container handling schedules are now much more efficient.
No specialized service or operator training is necessary.
This robust container handling system, which is available in the USA exclusively from Powerfleet, can be purchased, leased or rented. The company offers a technical advisory, parts and support service.
