Neponset IL -- Martin Engineering has announced plans to construct in Neponset a multi-million dollar, world class research and development center which will focus on bulk material handling technology advancement.

The new Martin Engineering Center for Bulk Solids Handling Innovation will concentrate on developing solutions to reduce or eliminate dust and spillage resulting from handling bulk solids out of storage and on conveyors. The Center will also develop application knowledge related to flow aid devices used to promote the flow of bulk solids.

The new Center for Innovation will have full-scale bulk material handling capabilities for equipment reliability and performance testing in line with the company’s dedication to “Clean, Safe, Productive Bulk Solids Handling.”

The Martin Engineering Center for Bulk Solids Handling Innovation will serve as the company’s worldwide home for research and development. The new 20,000 square foot (1850 m2) structure will be a separate facility located at the company’s world headquarters and manufacturing facility in Neponset, Illinois.

The Martin Engineering Center for Bulk Solids Handling Innovation will be dedicated to providing collaborative opportunities for companies worldwide to perform tests of the flow properties and dusting characteristics of bulk materials they transport on conveyors and move from storage. Projects will include research, industry education, new product development, and the testing of material properties and system performance under simulated operating conditions.

Martin Engineering Chairman of the Board Edwin H. Peterson said, "The Martin Engineering Center for Bulk Solids Handling Innovation represents a major commitment to the future of the basic industries we serve and to our customers. We are confident that our customers will benefit from a better understanding of the characteristics of their bulk materials, and how they should be handled. This in turn will lead to new technologies that make solids handling cleaner, safer, and more productive."

Construction will begin this summer, with completion planned by year end. It is expected the new center will be fully staffed and operational by the third quarter of 2007. Contractor for the project is Phalen Steel Construction, Mendota, Illinois.

Founded in 1944, Martin Engineering is a world leader in making bulk materials handling cleaner, safer, and more productive. Headquartered in Neponset, Illinois, USA, the company has other U.S. operations in Marine City, Michigan, Butler, Pennsylvania, and Kirkland, Washington, as well as international sales & manufacturing facilities in Mexico, Germany, Brazil, France, Indonesia, South Africa, United Kingdom, China, Japan and Turkey. MARTIN® Products are also available from authorized representatives around the world.
