Broomall, PA -- Pennsylvania Crusher has delivered the largest sizer it has ever produced to a West Virginia coal mine. The machine, weighing more than 100,000 pounds, was built in two pieces so it could be hauled into position and assembled underground.
From 40 inch input, this massive Mountaineer® Sizer was designed to produce 12” run of mine coal and deliver 7,000 tons per hour. The relatively small footprint, low headroom, commercially available component pieces and a minimum number of custom pieces make the Mountaineer Sizer maintenance friendly and allow for placement of the sizer above or under ground. The Mountaineer Sizer has four retractable wheels allowing the sizer to be rolled out from under the feed point for servicing.
The drive components of the Mountaineer Sizer further simplify the installation process. The 800 hp electric motor, fluid coupling, speed reducer and link gears are all mounted within the sizer on a common frame, which not only expedites alignment but also provides ready access. In yet another effort to keep costs low, most of these drive components are not custom designed; they are off-the-shelf components available from reducer and coupling manufacturers.
The Mountaineer Sizer sizes material in stages. Two synchronized rolls enable the stages to perform harmoniously. In the first stage, the teeth on the rolls grab and shear the large lumps. During the second stage, the midsize lumps are grabbed for further shearing action.
The sizer offers many tooth design options to fit different applications. Pennsylvania application specialists will analyze the specific project requirements, and recommend the appropriate equipment. The selected tooth style, roll configuration and roll speed, will produce a consistent product size with minimal fines.
Established in 1905, Pennsylvania Crusher Corporation’s crushers are used by numerous basic industries such as power generation, mining, cement plants, the glass industry and many others. In the US, most of the coal needed to generate electric power is crushed using Pennsylvania Crusher crushers.
