Louisville, KY -- Producer Feeds has long served the equine and home companion market, rather than larger commercial livestock operations. They store and batch 150 different formulas for customers.
"A couple of years ago we upgraded the Prater-Sterling Control System that had been in use since the 60’s. I think the software must have been pre-DOS", explained Brent Williams, General Manager of Producer Feeds. "We liked the idea that the replacement cost was only about one-third what any new system would run.
The new Windows-based system tied everything together from inventory to batching. Our reporting is much more complete and accurate. It gives us better inventory control and we can better manage ordering. We needed to expand and add more memory to have a better paper trail. We’ve always been in compliance but this system makes it easier. Of course it was customized to fit our feed mill operations.
The installation took less than three days. The engineer arrived on Friday and we ran our first test-batch Saturday evening. Of course we worked some long hours (dinner in the mill at 10PM!) We appreciated the professionalism and support being available to match our schedule – not all marketers would do that. The installation process was smooth, as well as timely.
I believe our system is more user-friendly than most. We even incorporate the length of batching time into each formula. Two of us can run the system. We both like the ease of operation and the accuracy of the information available."
