| PureFeed Dry Material Pharmaceutical Feeders |
Schenck AccuRate, bulk solids metering equipment and systems company, will be exhibiting at North America’s largest pharmaceutical tradeshow, Interphex 2009. The show is being held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City, March 17-19, 2009. Schenck AccuRate will be located in booth number 3145.
Schenck AccuRate will be featuring the new PureFeed® dry material feeder product line. Designed specifically for pharmaceutical applications, the AP-300 auger feeder and the very unique DP-4 disc feeder will be on display, along with various new accessories like disposable 15, 25 and 40 liter material supply hoppers. The PureFeed® AP-300 auger feeder was developed in conjunction with an international group of pharmaceutical manufacturing and process people and is available in volumetric and gravimetric configurations involving feed rates from 0.5 to approximately 150 Kg / hour.
Like other Schenck AccuRate feeders, the PureFeed® AP-300 feeder features a flexible hopper and programmable external dual-arm agitation system, to maximize material handling versatility. However, for the first time, the PureFeed® AP-300 uses flexible FDA-compliant EPDM feed-hoppers that are “disposable” and “recyclable”. That means simpler, shorter cleaning cycles and virtually, no chance of cross contamination when moving from one material to another.
A 316L stainless steel is used for most of the feeder parts including the 4, 12, and 36 liter extension hoppers and covers. 32 microinch RA finishes are standard on all contact surfaces with lower RAs available upon request. Finally, the number of feeder pieces has been kept to a minimum and connections are made using sanitary quick-release clamps so disassembly, cleaning and reassembly is quicker and easier than ever.
The PureFeed® DP-4 disc feeder is a highly innovative gravimetric feeder that can accurately meter dry powders at feed rates as low as 20 grams / hour. The key to the success of the new PureFeed® DP-4 is an innovative, speed controlled, inert ceramic feed disc (patent pending).
Positioned at the base of a cylindrical, electropolished stainless steel material storage chamber, the disc rotates to precisely discharge tiny amounts of material, continuously and pulsation free over the entire 20 to 2,000 gram feed rate range. Also, since the feed disc separates the material supply from the discharge point, there is no compaction and no chance of flooding.
Low maintenance and ease of disassembly, cleaning and containment were major design priorities for the PureFeed® DP-4 Disc Feeder. All stainless steel contact surfaces are electropolished and the zirconium oxide ceramic feed disc is resistant to wear and unaffected by aggressive cleaning agents, and high temperatures. All connecting pieces are secured using sanitary quick release clamps and the inlet and discharge of the DP-4 feeder can be sealed to insure containment during transportation.
Uniquely designed for the challenges associated with low feed rate pharmaceutical-grade dry material metering applications, the PureFeed® DP-4 Disc Feeder was recognized as the most innovative product at Powtech & TechnoPharm 2007 by Process – PharmaTec – Schuttgut.
Both the PureFeed® AP-300 and the DP-4 provide solutions to pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and even cosmetic applications. Jet milling, continuous blending, continuous granulation, medical-grade plastics compounding and tablet coating are examples of applications the new PureFeed® products are being used in.
