Rice Conveyors in Belize

Gamlingay, UK -- Wrights Dowson Group, the Gamlingay based manufacturer and supplier of bulk materials handling equipment continue to expand their export of screw conveyors. A recent order placed through a UK based, process plant design & build specialist, covered the manufacturer of U trough Screw conveyors, slide valves, a gravity diverter and ancillary mountings for incorporation into an existing Rice Processing facility in Central America.

Located in the Orange Walk district of northern Belize close to the Mexican border, the original rice plant, including intake, drying, handling and storage systems was exported from the UK in 1993 and included a selection of Wrights Dowson, 300mm dia ‘U’ trough screw conveyors to transfer rice to the storage silos. Further Wrights Dowson 300mm dia troughed screw conveyors, were added to the plant in 1996 as part of a throughput upgrade.

The most recent expansion phase, completely installed by the user, went live in June 09 with the requirement to handle 60 t.p.h. This has necessitated a further upsizing of the screw conveyor system to a combination of 400 & 450mm dia units with a total length in excess of 90m.

It may be of interest to note that the specification of the original conveyors, the 1996 capacity increase and the recent supply, included a requirement for hot dip galvanising internally and externally, to ensure continued operation in an exterior location of vast rainfall. All the slide valves and the gravity diverter are fabricated from 304, Stainless steel.

The supply of equipment installed this summer is to facilitate the transfer of rice to a series of additional storage bins as shown in the attached photograph, and in general terms operate under the following criteria.

Product: Rice
Density: 550kg/m_
Moisture Content: 12%
% Product Size: Rice Grains
Capacity Required: 60 t.p.h. (109m_/hr)
Location Temperature: Assumed ambient – Average 27°C
Location Rainfall: Average for Northern Belize – 1524mm per annum

Whether it is the supply of screw conveyors to Belize, Powder Samplers to China, Volumetric Feeders to Saudi Arabia, Screw Conveyor Flights to Turkey, Bin Dischargers to Belgium or Hanger Bearings to Holland, the Wrights Dowson Group have a proven capability to manufacture and supply a comprehensive range of bulk materials handling equipment, worldwide.
