Spring House, PA -- From now on, belt scales can be integrated into the Simatic automation network with a new weighing module. Siwarex FTC (Flexible Technology Continuous Weighing) acquires weighing data with a resolution of sixteen million increments and a measuring rate of 100 Hertz.

This high accuracy is guaranteed up to a 30-degree angle of inclination of the belt. Typical applications include acquisition of flow rate, conveyed quantity and belt load, as well as loading of material. Siwarex FTC is used in Simatic S7-300 controllers or Simatic ET 200M distributed I/O stations. With complex automation tasks, the new weighing module is integrated into the Simatic PCS 7 process control system.

Extensive diagnostics functions monitor the weighing process: For example, the "event recorder with time stamp" records the progress and status of weighing operations, storing the last 100 messages in a diagnostics buffer. The device contains eight accumulator memories whose contents can be stored on the micro memory card. The load cell and the entire cabling system are also permanently monitored.

Configuring software is available free on the Internet as a starter package. With this, users can quickly get their belt scales up and running, even without programming knowledge. The belt scale is integrated into the PCS 7 process control system using off-the-shelf standard CFCs (Continuous Function Charts) and faceplates.
