ORLANDO, FL -- The Board of Directors of the WBF® announces a name change for the organization. The worldwide organization has decided to better align its name with the market and members it serves. The organization will now be called WBF. "World Batch Forum" will be removed from the logo and WBF will now be known as The Forum for Automation and Manufacturing Professionals. The change was announced at the recent 12th Annual North American Conference held in Atlantic City, NJ.

“The organization has focused on more than ‘batch” for many years,” says Maurice Wilkins, WBF’s Chairman. “This change tells the world that our focus is on manufacturing automation – including batch, discrete and continuous operations in both process and factory automation. The WBF has expanded its focus to better align with our Members who often are responsible for a variety of automation as well as involved with connecting plant floor information with MES and ERP business systems,” he said. “Since our logo is well recognized worldwide, we decided to keep the WBF symbol. Moving forward, the Forum for Automation and Manufacturing Professionals will be the way we define the organization.”

Over 150 Members of the WBF attended the 12th annual conference held at the Trump Taj Mahal Resort in Atlantic City, NJ. Automation professionals from major manufacturing companies attended the 2 ˝ day conference represented a variety of industries including chemical, pharmaceutical and others. The conference was open to all interested participants and was an excellent opportunity to learn about the practical experiences of other professionals and to take advantage of what others have learned without repeating their mistakes.

“With the excellent work done on the S88 and S95 ISA Standards, the WBF and its Members now have a roadmap on which to standardize their automation,” says Jim McKenna, WBF’s Vice-Chairman. “The key is to provide the tools that will allow companies to remain competitive by standardizing work processes and improving the information flow throughout the enterprise,” he said.

“There is a very high level of excitement here at this conference,” says John Blanchard, Principal Analyst, ARC Advisory Group. “After a lot of hard work on the standards, it’s all coming together to support a change in automation that ties the enterprise together – from packaging machines to the process and from ERP Systems to the plant floor. The change I’m seeing here is significant and will lead to major operational improvements.”

Membership in the WBF is open to all automation professionals. For individual and corporate membership information, visit www.wbf.org, call +1-407-774-5764 or email info@wbf.org.
