Matcon Matches High Expectations

Sewell, NJ -- Swedish Match is a unique company with unique products. The Group has chosen strategies that are in tune with social trends in the tobacco area. The focus is on smokeless alternatives and this has led to a significant increase in business over recent years.

To meet growing demand, a new production facility has been recently completed. The company is committed to streamlining their processes and replacing any technology that causes maintenance, hygiene or operation problems - hence their selection of Matcon IBC technology for handling the tobacco material.

The partnership with Matcon began over a decade ago. Wet tobacco is a notoriously difficult material to handle but, following extensive full-scale trials at Matcon’s testing facility in the UK and some specific new product development, the discharging capability of the Matcon Cone Valve satisfied Swedish Match’s high requirements.

Matcon IBCs are used to store batches of the mixed finished product for several days prior to feeding the packing process. Matcon Cone Valve IBCs and Discharge Stations were found to be the only system able to discharge the material completely with the necessary degree of control.

To maintain the highest possible hygiene standards, all equipment is thoroughly cleaned in place between batches. Matcon CIP systems are used to automatically clean the IBC Discharge Stations and Cone Valve IBCs.

Matcon is proud to have been able to meet Swedish Match’s high project and process expectations and continue this long-standing and valued relationship into its second decade.
