Medway, UK -- Senior academics from a Chinese university have been visiting the internationally renowned centre of excellence in particle handling at the University of Greenwich at Medway. The delegation from Tianjin University of Technology toured the university’s £1 million new Wolfson Centre research facilities and laboratories – part of the University of Greenwich School of Engineering.

The centre specialises in researching and developing technologies for a wide range of industries requiring the storage and movement of powder and granular solids.

It has undertaking more than 270 research and consultancy projects for national and international companies during the past nine years and recently relocated to the new laboratories, at Chatham Maritime, from Woolwich.

The University of Greenwich School of Engineering has been working with Tianjin University of Technology to develop a research masters degree for students from the Chinese University. Now plans are being made for a delegation from the University of Greenwich to visit Tianjin to develop further academic and research links between the two universities.

Richard Farnish, consulting engineer at the Wolfson Centre, said: “Tianjin University of Technology is based in an area with a major port and developing manufacturing industries”.

“The engineering skills and training available through the Wolfson Centre, and the University of Greenwich School of Engineering, meet the needs of their local industries and we are looking forward to working more closely with Tianjin University of Technology in the future.”

Professor Alan Reed, University Director of Regional Liaison for Kent and Medway, says: “The Wolfson Centre is a world leader in its field providing research, consultancy and pilot testing facilities to industry.

“We are delighted that representatives from Tianjin University of Technology have been able to visit our campus and talk about our research and education capabilities in depth. I am sure that this will be a continuing and highly productive relationship between the two universities.”
