Hoover Acquires Plymouth Manufacturing
------------------------------------------------------------
Combination Strengthens Hoover’s Position in IBC Segment
ALPHARETTA, Ga. - Hoover Materials Handling Group, Inc.
announces the acquisition of Plymouth Manufacturing.
Located near Hoover’s Beatrice manufacturing plant, Plymouth
Manufacturing has fabricated agriculture equipment and a
wide range of dry bins and associated material handling
systems for over two decades. In addition, Plymouth has
recently begun manufacturing a full line of stainless and
carbon steel liquid tanks marketed under the brand name
Sure Drain‘. Through the acquisition, Plymouth Manufacturing
has become a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Hoover Materials
Handling Group.
“The metal tank business is an important segment of the
intermediate bulk container (IBC) business in a sense that
many products can only be shipped in high quality steel
containers,” says John R. Redmond, Hoover president and
CEO. “By acquiring Plymouth Manufacturing, Hoover will now
be able to provide a wider range of metal tanks for liquid
and dry flowable products at competitive prices.”
“Hoover’s industry knowledge and experience coupled with
Plymouth’s design innovations will enable the new company
to deliver some of the most exciting enhancements to metal
tank packaging in decades,” Redmond continued.
“The message that we hope to send to the marketplace by this
acquisition is that Hoover is committed to providing the
widest range of packaging solutions and ‘one stop shopping’
convenience for our customers,” Redmond said.
Hoover Materials Handling Group Inc. is a wholly owned
subsidiary of Hoover Group Inc. North America's largest
manufacturer of intermediate bulk containers, Hoover
delivers packaging solutions for chemical, petroleum and

Westfalia Technologies Announced Latest Innovation
------------------------------------------------------------
York, Pennsylvania —Westfalia Technologies, Inc. announced
the addition of an automatic bag palletizer to its line of
bag packaging and pallet handling equipment. The addition
of the automatic bag palletizer, available this year, enables
Westfalia to be a single source for complete supply chain
management systems.
“This is very significant for us in terms of meeting industry
and customer needs,” said Westfalia President, Dan Labell.
“As a one-stop-shop for bag packaging and pallet handling
equipment, and automated storage and retrieval systems
(AS/RS), our customers benefit by eliminating the added
expense and time incurred when purchasing through multiple
sources.”
The model 870 palletizer, like other innovative solutions
from Westfalia, can claim its’ share of cutting edge
technology. According to Mr. Labell, “We’ve developed a
unique encoder-controlled sweeper and stop design,
allowing for exact positioning of bags in virtually any
pattern.” He adds, “The timing belt, that drives the
sweeper arms, allows for zero slippage and low noise,
producing a smoother overall movement.”
The model 870 palletizer will be available in early
February coinciding with the time Westfalia moves into
a new corporate building in York, PA. The 77,000 square
foot facility includes a showroom where the model 870,
along with other Westfalia products, will be available
for demonstration.

GreCon Moves US Headquarters Into New Millennium
------------------------------------------------------------
GreCon, Inc. moved its US Headquarters to Tigard, Oregon.
The new 10,000 square foot facility currently under construction
will accommodate more efficient production and testing areas
for GreCon Spark Detection & Extinguishment Systems and
quality assurance Measuring Equipment. According to Executive
Vice President, Hermann Staats, the move to the new facility
is primarily in response to new technology, and to be able to
offer additional customer service benefits.
"With new technological advances and the increase in market
demand, we needed to expand our facilities," says Staats.
One of the new customer service offerings from GreCon will
be Direct Modem Contact. This will allow customers immediate
on-line technical support, troubleshooting, and upgrades to
their system. Customers will also be able to participate via
modem during the testing phase and to inspect the system
during the final production phase.
GreCon also plans to offer individual training to customers
on their own gauges during the testing phase at the new
location. "This is important," says Staats, "because all of
our equipment is customized for the specific application
and requirements of our customers. Involving the customer’s
QC Manager or Technicians in the early phases of building
and commissioning the gauge helps GreCon Technicians to
better meet the customer’s specific needs, as well as
allowing the customer to take ownership of the product
early on."

Dr. Tsivilis needs help with fine grinding:
Concerning a Ph.D. thesis, we have to grind 20 kg metakaolin
(thermally treated kaolin). The product must contain at least
50% weight with particle size less than 10 micron. We have a
ball-mill (D=400mm, L=500mm - material capacity 5-7 kg) with
controlled revolution speed and a gyratory crusher with an
attached screen of 110 micron. a) I would be very pleased to
hear ideas, how we can perform the grinding with the above
equipment (perhaps using small grinding media and low
revolution speed). b) Are there any companies that provide
grinding services (with payment)?
Thanks in advance

Mr. Clive needs help with rotary valves:
I am looking for a means to improve the efficiency of a
rotary valve by installing a nozzle in a positive pressure
pneumatic conveyor. My idea would be to create a venturi
effect and a lower pressure at the point of powder loading.
Can anyone help with the supply or design of such a nozzle?
