Voith Turbo Acquires Valvex
Ventiltechnik
Crailsheim,
Germany -- As of April 1st Voith Turbo GmbH & Co. KG,
Heidenheim, Germany, is taking over Valvex Ventiltechnik
GmbH, Bergisch Gladbach, Germany.
Valvex
Ventiltechnik, founded in 1971, specializes in developing
and producing explosion-proof solenoid valves and valve
groups that are used primarily in the mining and in the
refrigeration industry. During the course of the takeover,
the company will be fully integrated into the Product Group
Electric Control and Drive Technology within the Voith Turbo
market area industry at the location Crailsheim.
The
product program of Valvex is an ideal supplement to the
Voith Turbo portfolio. Valvex products are used in all cases
where high availability is the main criterion in
environments with explosion hazards. Since 1975, Valvex
solenoid valves have been widely used in underground mining
applications.
The
valves are utilized for dust suppression (crusher, plough
track and transfer spraying), for mine ventilation and for
the control of armored chain and belt conveyors (for example
in Voith Turbo couplings) and band brakes. There are also
numerous special applications. Above ground, the
explosion-proof solenoid valves are used in refrigeration
plants.
Voith
Turbo is a worldwide leader in energy technology and stands
for continuity in its markets. The implementation into Voith
Turbo ensures the long-term availability and further
development of the Valvex products.

Meco To Exhibit New Seal Designs
at Powder Show
Georgetown,
ME -- Booth 2414 at the International Powder and Bulk Solids
Expo in Chicago will be buzzing with the latest innovation
in sealing technology: the outside face seal (OFS). This
single-face design was originally conceived for
high-temperature and high-speed applications, where
double-face seals can overheat and fail. The OFS is ideal
for the containment of vapors in vertical-shaft vessels and
operates without a purge or flush system.
MECO
earned its most recent patent for this design, which
maintains constant seal-face pressure as components wear.
The OFS is particularly suited to top-entry agitators, where
long, cantilevered shafts can exhibit high runout and
angular misalignment. The OFS will permit significant axial
motion, making it ideal for applications where there is
shaft float and thermal expansion.
The
OFS is available unsplit or fully split, and in a wide
variety of materials combinations for maximum compatibility
with acids, bases and aromatic hydrocarbons. The OFS can be
built with no elastomers, permitting its use with aggressive
chemistries. OFS seals excel in vacuum environments, often
cutting process times in half, due to increased vacuum
containment.
All
MECO seals are custom-engineered to suit individual
applications, providing an excellent alternative to packing
glands, which is simple to install in rotating bulk process
machinery. Used in industries as diverse as chocolate,
polyolefins and gypsum processing, these fully split seals
effectively contain solids, liquids, vapors and gases. MECO
builds a minimum of 6mm diametric shaft run-out into all of
its designs. Those models which are air-purged use very low
flow rates, approaching zero cfm.
MECO
custom shaft seals are designed and manufactured by Maine
craftsmen at Woodex Bearing Company.

Mr. Luken wants help with scale
formation:
My name is Arne Luken and I
am studying process engineering in Hamburg Germany. In line
with my studies I am working on a research about the
phenomena of scale formation which occurs while transporting
fluorated or secondary alumina with pneumatic dense phase
conveying systems.
Secondary Alumina originates
in the dry scrubbing process, where fresh Alumina is used to
adsorb the emissions from the off-gases of the electrolytic
cells. For now it seems like the principle occurrence of
scale formation is independent from the geographical
location and the dense phase conveying system itself,
whereat it does differ in speed of growth.
Furthermore it seems that the
Alumina itself is not the initiator of the problem, rather
the fine dust or particle emissions seem to provoke the
build up. Another interesting fact is that the incrustations
increase at places of high turbulences (for example at bows
and primary at the end of the conveying pipe due to higher
velocities).
Since this is a very
particular problem I found it very hard to find any kind of
literature or previous researches about this problem.
Therefore I would be very pleased about any kind of
information or knowledge like: Hints, Literature, Links,
Contacts, Ideas, or Researches
Thanks in advance for any
leads.
