New Sponsor : BulkFlow Technologies

Jacksonville Beach, FL -- We are pleased to announce that BulkFlow Technologies, Inc. has become a sponsor of Powder and Bulk Dot Com.

BulkFlow Technologies Ltd. was formed in 1999, but the company’s patented heat exchanger technology was created almost 20 years ago in 1986. An engineer at the Cominco Fertilizer plant near Calgary, Alberta, Canada was inspired to come up with a better way to cool granular fertilizer and the BulkFlow Heat Exchanger was born. The technology combines zero emissions, lower energy consumption and lower capital costs with exceptional results. (photo: Multiple coolers for detergent powder.)

The Better Way to Heat or Cool Powder and Bulk Solids!

The BulkFlow Heat Exchanger heats or cools powder and bulk solids by combining a welded plate heat exchanger with mass flow design.

The equipment includes a vertical assembly of welded stainless steel heat exchanger plates called the "plate bank", and a mass flow discharge feeder mounted below the plate bank. Free-flowing bulk solids pass slowly through the vertical channels between the heat exchanger plates. Heat transfer fluid flows inside the welded stainless steel plates to heat or cool the material as it passes through. A control system maintains product level in the inlet hopper for even distribution during operation.

The BulkFlow Heat Exchanger has been used effectively to heat or cool a wide variety of powders, pellets, granules and other bulk solids. Applications include: chemicals, fertilizers, polymers, detergents, catalysts, minerals, oilseeds, grains, food products, sugar and biosolids.

Bolingbrook and Hodgkins, IL -- Arro Corporation and Prater-Sterling today announced they are partnering to create the most extensive toll processing operation in the Midwest. Together the companies will have facilities scattered throughout northern Illinois. The portfolio of capabilities will encapsulate processing of industrial and food grade material by particle size reduction of dry material from six inches down to 10 micron, sifting/scalping, briquetting / compacting, mixing, reprocessing and packaging of customers materials.

"Can't think of a more natural alliance than this one with Arro, the brand synonymous with the processing and handling of dry and liquid products," said R. Scott Prater President and CEO, Prater-Sterling. "Under this partnership we are able to add food grade toll processing to our own portfolio."

"We are thrilled to be working with Prater to enable our customers far greater particle size reduction capabilities than we currently offer." said Pat Gaughan, Arro's President. "We have enjoyed an excellent long-term working relationship with Prater and look forward to the opportunities that will arise from combining the services of our two companies."

Under this agreement customers will work directly with their Arro or Prater contact and then ship their materials via, rail, bulk cars, totes, super sacks, drums, bags and boxes to the appropriate tolling facility. New : Sampler For Bulk Road Tankers

Lorrach, Germany -- The Bulk Sampler has been developed to take a representative sample from settled product in a road tanker at a depth up to two meters, quickly and easily with the 3D screw blades loosening the product as the sampler head penetrates the product.

Manual sampling of bulk material from road tankers before either rear tipping or pneumatic discharge into storage bins or silos is very difficult. This is due to the compressed nature of the product caused by movement during transit. As penetration of the product is very difficult, the operator is forced to take the sample from the surface of the material or from the product flow. In the case of surface sampling the end result is not representative.

When sampling from the material flow in either the pneumatic transfer or tipping modes, it is already too late to verify the quality of the product.

GMP Sampling wants to offer help. Wherever precise sampling is required we offer appropriate and suitable equipment as well as experience and know-how. It's our effort to supply the necessary equipment and know-how that enable our customers to do a reliable, easy and appropriate sampling.

Bottom-Up : Bag Filler For Dusty Materials

Bastia Umbra, Italy -- The Concetti Group is pleased to announce their new patented bottom up auger filling device, ideal for dosing very difficult products that can be extremely dusty or very sticky.

The innovation by the Concetti Group is that the auger fills while it moves from the bottom up inside the bag. It fills from the bottom to the top! This enables the system to steady the bag during the filling operation, reaching higher capacity, limiting bag handling, keeping dust to a minimum and filling accurately.

This system can be applied both to open mouth (pre-made) bag filling machines, our model IGF, and with the most modern FFS Continua technology.

Some applications: calcium carbonate, tannin, cement premix, barium carbonate, strontium carbonate, iron oxide, lead compounds, aluminum hydroxide, polymer powder, adhesive powder, refractory powder, wooden powder, enamel, kaolin, flour etc.

The Concetti Group specializes in manufacturing weighing, bagging, closing and palletizing machinery for bulk products. Its extensive experience in this field means that customers can take advantage of the added value offered by multipurpose and reliable automation using the most innovative technologies in both the mechanical and electronic fields. This great versatility has allowed the Concetti Group to make truly distinctive machinery, satisfying the requirements of advanced and diversified customers in the animal-feed, milling and chemical industries.

Mr. Seth needs a heat recovery unit:

We are looking for a heat recovery/heat exchange device which can recover the heat from clinker cooler. Gas temperature varying from 700 degrees at one end to 300 degrees at discharge end. The volume of gas is enormous as the cooler is attached with 4500 tpd kiln.

We also need to have references of similar types of installations where the gypsum calcination/kiln is being charged by the exhaust gases from clinker cooler.  (Click here to post a reply)

Mr. Moseley wants a high pressure feeder:

We are searching for a company that can produce a custom feed unit.  Here are our conditions:  We are designing a bench top coal dust gasifier unit for a client. We are looking for a feed auger designed to feed coal dust from a hopper into a pressure vessel. The system requirements are as follows:

1. Feedrate = 5 lbs /hr +/- 0.5%.
2. Total feed time = 3 hrs (15lbs or ~ 3 gal).
3. Max particle size = 1mm.
4. Moisture content = 0 to 20%.
5. Vessel Pressure = 350 psig.

What we would like to do is take an off the shelf product and pressurize the hopper and feed system to 350 psig. This would require modification of the feed chamber, feed hopper, metering auger tube and shaft seals to be air tight against the 350 psi. The hopper would then be batch loaded for a 3 hour run, sealed, pressurized to the 350 psig with air, and then the system turned on for the 3 hour period.

Are there any vendors that make custom units or are willing to modify the standard unit?  Click here to post a reply)
