Develop Powder Flowability Data

Reliable Powder Characterization - FT3 Powder Rheometer

Freeman Technology provides instruments that characterize powder flowability and process-ability. Powder & Bulk Solids (Rosemont 7-9 May 2002) will be the company's first appearance at a US exhibition and reflects the rapid development of the business over the past 18 months.

Click hereDuring this time, the patented FT3 Powder Rheometer, which will be on display at the show, has proved its value in a diverse range of processing industries and has been adopted by six of the world's top ten pharmaceutical companies. The ability to optimize powder handling and processing, and to develop sensitive, reliable QC criteria, opens the way to real productivity and quality gains, whether in pharmaceuticals, polymers, bulk chemicals, coal or a whole range of other powders and granulation processes.

The FT3 Powder Rheometer makes possible for the first time the direct comparison of powder flowability data from different samples, and opens the way to create information databases for use by formulators, developers and manufacturers. A novel pre-conditioning procedure ensures that measurements are repeatable and comparable, and most of the multitude of variables that affect powder flowability can be assessed independently.

The FT3 uses a patented helical blade principle, where the blade displaces powder as it moves along a helical path through the sample. A wide range of flow patterns and flow rates can be achieved depending on the direction and speed of movement. All forces acting on the blade when causing powder to flow are measured, and these data form the basis of a flowability assessment. Force measurements are converted into energy to determine the total energy or work done during the traverse.

Need a "Beefy" Valve?

Improved Dual Cylinder Salina Roller-Gate Valve

Salina, Kansas - Salina Vortex Corporation has engineered added features and sizes into their dual cylinder Salina Roller Gate that offers a dust tight seal when handling dry bulk material.

Click hereSeal access ports (a standard feature) allow easy replacement of worn bonnet seals without removing the valve from service. The new sealed body option allows the gate to accommodate an air purge assembly option. This allows the dual cylinder Roller Gate to be used in applications handling fine material or where differential pressure is present.

Standard sizes now range from 6" through 30" square. Stainless frame and custom rectangular sizes are also available. The shorter length and narrow profile of this gate allow it to be used in many applications where overall space or headroom is a concern.

Hot Messages from the Help Forum

People post their requests for help and offer their suggestions to others in our open forum.

Mr. Radcliffe needs help with keg tipping:

The current method for charging reactors with powder is by hand. It is a 3 man operation.  A keg is tipped into a specially designed spout on the reactor manway. Powder does not flow straight through the neck and is physically pushed down.

I am looking for a machine to lift and tilt a keg and some method of ensuring a good flow of powder without choking at the neck of the spout.  Can anyone help.

Brendan needs a formula:

Does anybody have a formula to determine the rate of flow of a granular material through an orifice.

If it's important, the material I am using is granulated stone.
