Material Master Powerfill FIBC
Filling System
Allegan,
MI -- Filling system features the industries’ first
horizontal pivoting and rotating bag fill carriage (patent
pending). The bag support carriage and fill head lower to a
programmed operator height, extend towards the operator,
then rotate for “reach-free” bag strap and bag spout
connection.
From
the “load position”, an operator can safely connect an empty
bag while standing on the floor directly in front of the
filler unit in approximately 20-30 seconds. The operator is
not required to bend down to knee level to connect lower bag
straps, reach above head level to make bag connections, or
struggle with awkward horizontal bag spout connections
methods.
The
Power-Lift™ system provides powered fill head height
adjustment to accommodate multiple bag and operator heights.
The optimum bag fill and ergonomic operator load heights are
easily entered into a menu, and recalled, allowing the fill
head to automatically travel to the correct operator load
height, and the correct bag fill height for each fill cycle.
A bag
inflation system quickly removes folds in bags or bag liners
for maximum fill volume, while a densification system with
scale isolation ensures bag stability.
A
Loop-Lok™ system provides positive powered bag strap
engagement and release, can be quickly adjusted to suit
various bag footprints, and is free of hazardous pinch
points found on mechanical latch type release systems.
Material enters the filler through a stainless steel
material inlet tube with an inflatable spout seal. Material
inlet tube is equipped with a dust extraction port, a
clean-in-place system, and an inlet valve with bulk and
dribble fill positions.
The
scale system features stainless steel load cells, and an
Allen-Bradley PLC with PanelView touch screen operator
interface for easy operator input and access to system
status. Modular unit is custom designed to suit application
requirements.
Unit
is available with optional check scale, powered in-feed and
out-feed conveyors, pallet dispenser, and slip sheet
dispenser.

World's Largest Batch Gravimetric Blender
Aston,
PA -- A new gravimetric blender that doses pelletized
materials into processes running at rates as high as
10,000 lb. (4,500 kg) per hour makes the economic and
product-quality advantages of the Maguire ® Weigh Scale
Blender available to compounders and resin processors
with big-volume operations, it was announced today by
Maguire Products, Inc.
Tradenamed MaxiBatch HT (for
High-Throughput), the new blender will be introduced at
NPE 2006 as a companion to the original MaxiBatch
system, which Maguire developed for wood flour and other
bulk powder materials. Like the earlier MaxiBatch, the
HT model can dispense as many as twelve batch
ingredients, and each ingredient hopper has a dispensing
device designed for a material in a specific form.
To accommodate pellets while
still achieving high throughputs, Maguire has
incorporated into the major-ingredient hoppers a "corner
valve" that provides a large opening for dispensing
pellets into a weigh chamber. The valve achieves
dispense rates as high as 11,000 grams per second,
according to Peter Skulski, sales manager.
The throughput rating of the
MaxiBatch HT blender is double that of the next-largest
series of Maguire blenders (the 1800 series), and its
batch size of 66 lb. (30 kg) is 67% greater.
"As the world's largest
gravimetric or gain-in-weight blender, the MaxiBatch
provides many compounders, blown film processors, and
manufacturers of packaging and other big-volume products
with the first alternative to loss-in-weight systems,
which are invariably larger, more complex, and more
costly," said Skulski.
In Maguire's gain-in-weight
blender, the ingredients for each batch are sequentially
dispensed from separate hoppers into a weigh chamber.
From there, the batch falls into a mixing chamber, then
is metered into the processing machine. In subsequent
batches, small corrections are made automatically by the
blender controller. Overall batch accuracy is held to
within +/- 0.1%, according to Skulski.
"Since the share of operating
cost accounted for by raw materials increases with the
throughput volume of a processing operation, the high
accuracy provided by the MaxiBatch HT blender translates
into big savings in raw materials, including expensive
additives and colorants," Skulski said.
Maguire Products, Inc.,
headquartered in Aston, Pennsylvania, is the world's
largest supplier of gravimetric blenders and liquid
color pumps and also manufactures loading systems,
granulators, dryers, auger feeders, and related
equipment and software. Its customers include injection,
blow, and rotational molders, extrusion processors, and
compounders.

Mr. Nutting wants to design a
chute for sludge:
I have an application where
we would like to transfer municipal wastewater treatment
facility sludge from a dewatering centrifuge outlet to
multiple pump hoppers below using 24" HDPE pipe as a chute.
The sludge will be dewatered
to about 25% solids. Does anyone know the approximate
critical chute angle for this type of material?

Mr. Gordon wants to find a
high-pressure, diverter valve:
I am trying to track down a
supplier for a 100mm diameter, 3-way pipe diverter with a
maximum working pressure of 10 bar (150 psi). I have
so far been unable to source such a unit.
It will be used to divert
drilling waste from offshore drilling operations. The
waste contains oil and is highly abrasive. Any
information would be greatly appreciated.

Charcoal Manufacture Improves Inventory Accuracy
“We used a cable running up
the side of the silo through the top and down inside
with a weight attached to the end inside the silo. The
end on the outside was attached to a hand winch. We
would release the winch, lower the cable until it
appeared it had hit the material surface. Then we would
take a reading from a marker on the cable on the
outside.” There were a total of eight silos of various
