Two Pulse Spray Driers Available

Pulse Combustion Announces Custom Drying Service

Pulse Combustion Systems (PCS) announced its plans to exhibit at the Powder & Bulk Solids Show at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL May 6 - 9, 2002.  At the "Powder Show," PCS will announce its new custom drying service available at its Payson, Arizona facility. The toll drying service is offered in response to customer demand for cost-effective drying of smaller production runs.

Click herePCS President Jim Rehkopf explains, "Many of our customers are testing new products or evaluating the size of new markets. It's much more cost-effective for them to use our toll drying service until they are ready to purchase their own dryer to handle established product demand."

PCS has two pulse combustion spray dryers available for toll drying, with water evaporation rates of 40 and 400 lbs per hour. Pulse drying uses gas dynamic atomization, which instantly atomizes and dries the feed material without mechanical shear, resulting in higher quality powders. Different configurations are available to optimize powder characteristics such as nutrient viability, particle size, texture and flavor.

"Our PCS spray dryer has been successfully tested with all kinds of food, dairy, chemical, pharmaceutical and nutraceutical products," reports Ken Price, VP Sales and Marketing. "Our dryers handle higher solids than can be fed to spray dryers, and typically produce powders that exceed spray-dry standards. In some cases, we can dry materials that have been impossible to spray dry previously."

The new toll drying service is offered at the company's state-of-the-art facility in Payson, Arizona, a 90-minute drive from Phoenix. Manufacturers can schedule a test by visiting www.pulsedry.com, or may contact Ken Price at 415.435.4225 for a toll drying proposal.

Drop by the PCS booth #20014 at the Powder Show and enter a business card for 15% off initial test fee and a chance to win one of 5 free days of testing services.

Cost Cutting Packaging for Bulk Materials

Plassien Introduces New "T-REX2" Semi-Bulk Packaging

Plassein International will present an array of advanced flexible packaging solutions including its new T-REX2 heavy-duty sack at the Powder and Bulk Solids Exhibition 2002, May 6th -9th Rosemont, IL, Booth # 19086.

Click hereThe company’s Rex brand of custom-engineered heavy-duty sacks offers increased strength and versatility, heightened merchandising potential, and quick fill technology for the packaging of powder and bulk solids particulate materials.

“Plassein International’s capabilities allow manufacturers to expedite and improve the packaging of a wide range of bulk powders and solids while decreasing costs,” says Craig Miller, Plassein International general manager Rex™ brand. “Our advanced printing and converting technologies enhance consumer appeal and allow us to customize customers bags to meet specific filling, stacking, and shipping needs.”

The following packaging innovations will be featured in Plassein International’s Booth # 19086:

  • New T-REX 2 - T-Rex 2, a new, high strength, thin gauge film can be engineered to meet F/F/S and semi-bulk sack needs. The new film construction offers a 20% savings in material costs over thicker gauge films and paper multi-wall bags. T-Rex 2 enables packagers to down-gauge packaging materials to as low as 4ml. while maintaining the same strength and puncture resistance as heavier gauge polyethylene bags. In addition, T-Rex 2 sacks have a comparable stiffness factor, allowing them to be used on auto bag placers with ease.
  • Handi-Sac Handle Bag – Handi-Sac features a consumer-friendly, super-strong reinforced soft handle for easier consumer carrying of bulk-packaged items such as fertilizer, water conditioning salt, rock salt, play sand, pool filter sand, decorative stone, and chemical absorbents. The easy to handle packaging improves brand loyalty and encourages multiple product purchases at point-of-sale. The unique bags may be constructed with one of four heavy-duty handle designs, including: fold-over-top, non-fold-over top, non-fold-over-top with double seal, and rigid handle.
  • Micro Perforated Sacks & F/F/S Roll stock– Plassein’s unique micro perforation technology can increase packaging speed and efficiency and reduce plant safety hazards. Strategic micro perforations across the front and back surfaces of Plassein’s industrial film for bags or roll stock insure that air is forced out of bags during filling for more complete fills and reduced waste. Plant workers benefit from the reduction of powder released into workspace air during the packaging process.

Plassein International’s Rex semi-bulk sacks are manufactured from the highest strength quality resins and finished to meet specific packaging needs including moisture/odor/chemical protection, differential slip, micro perforation, embossing, side and bottom gussets. The bags can be custom designed with an array of seals including satchel-valve, open-mouth bottom-seal, and R-valve bags. Six-color flexographic presses provide high-impact brand promotion across every package.

Plassein International, “the new way to think film,” headquartered in Willington, Connecticut, is comprised of eight strategically located operating facilities across the United States and Canada. Offering merchandising and performance engineering solutions to a diverse number of niche markets; Plassein International is a fully integrated manufacturer of specialty films. Its capabilities include advanced co-extrusion, innovative design, high-quality printing, and converting.

Help Forum

Hot Messages from the Help Forum

People post their requests for help and offer their suggestions to others in our open forum.

Mr. Santau needs a bagger for ground mustard:

I work for a company out of Lethbridge, Alberta called Sakai Spice. We are making a new packaging line and trying to remodel the old one. Our company packages very fine mustard powder.

Our problem is that we have to vacuum seal the plastic bag after the powder is put in and then put the plastic bag into a paper bag. I am looking for some type of machine or way that we can get away from doing this process manually.

I have been searching for a while and have not seen a machine that can do this or any other company that goes through this type of process. Any suggestions?

Mr. Ortiz needs big bags for exporting cement:

One of our associates companies will export cement by sea using polyethylene 2-ton big bags.  At this time we are looking for a experiences within big bag producers that help us to make a decision regarding big bag type to be used ,as well as solve logistic problems, such storage and handling.

One of requirements will be that big bags will be stored in 6 layer piles in the vessels. From that resistance and stability of the load is our concern. Also time after filling the big bag to achieve stability before loading.

We  would like  to  contact you and have some information regarding your experience or/ and applications with your clients regarding this issue.
