Conveying Sugar

Brazil's Largest Sugar Plant Installs Mavi Vibratory Conveyors

Sao Paulo, Brazil - Mavi Maquinas Vibratorias has recently installed the largest vibratory conveyors for Usina da Barra sugar plant, in Barra Bonita, Sao Paulo, known to be the world's largest sugar producing plant. Two conveyors were installed, with a maximum capacity of 200 t/h. They are located under a set of sugar centrifuges.

Click hereEach conveyor is 25 meters long. All parts in contact with the sugar were made of polished AISI 304 steel. Usina da Barra has a total of 8 Mavi built vibratory conveyors. The photograph show one machine in full operation (200 t/h) after installation at Usina da Barra.

Mavi Máquinas Vibratórias has been developing vibratory equipment and drives for all industrial branches since 1961. Think about us when choosing vibratory systems.  The leader in Latinamerican leader in vibratory equipment and drives.

Tool for Estimating Project Costs

Just Released! Dense-Phase, Line-Sizing Software

Magnolia, TX - Pneu Solutions' dense-phase, line-sizing software, "Pneu-Dense", has just been released.

Click hereThis is a powerful tool, but extremely easy to use. This software program calculates pressure drops, airflows, and horsepower requirements for any specified line sizes and routings, including stepped-pipe systems. It includes a great deal of valuable information about dense phase conveying and will take out the "black art" conception that many people still have about this technology.

Pneu-Dense is extremely useful for any material handling professional. Every plant that uses pneumatic conveying as a means of transporting bulk materials should have it. Engineering firms can use this tool for estimating project costs without having to wait for vendor quotes. Our software package can be used by equipment sales engineers for estimating their system costs while they are on the road and in front of customers.

You can count on Pneu Solutions to receive the support that you need when you purchase this program. There are no consulting fees associated with the use of this program. All parties that purchase a licensed copy are eligible for free upgrades through July 2002.

Pneu-Dilute Released Soon

Pneu Solutions will be releasing a dilute-phase line-sizing software called Pneu-Dilute soon.

Port Facility Expansion

More Capacity for Estonia’s Grain Exports

The political change in Eastern Europe has also changed the flow of goods, a benefit to the port operators in Tallinn (Estonia). They took advantage of the good rail links to the countries of the former Soviet Union and expanded their port facilities.

Click hereA large part of the grain traded with the countries of the former Soviet Union passes through the Estonian port of Tallinn. Since 1986, a grain transshipping facility of the global Buhler Technology Group has ensured smooth handling of these transactions. The operator of the installation is the Muuga Grain Terminal company, an affiliate of the World Wide Cargo Establishment based in Rapperswil (Switzerland). The port operators in Tallinn are capable of loading and unloading up to Capesize vessels (up to 120,000 DWT). When it came to installing an additional ship loader, the people in charge at the Muuga Grain Terminal again selected Buhler. The new grain export line complements the existing facility. A well-developed network of railroad links ensures transportation of the grain between Estonia and the countries of the former Soviet Union.

Wide range of action in the ships’ holds

Buhler installed the new ship loader on a finger pier. The new installation loads ships at a rate of 1200 metric tons of grain per hour. On both sides of the finger pier, two Portalink ship unloaders and one Portalift already unload Capesize ships at a combined throughput rate of 2500 tons per hour. The new ship loader is directly linked with the grain terminal. For this purpose, Buhler had to rebuild one of the three pier belt conveyors and install additional conveyors in the corner tower. A scale in the corner tower weighs the grain at a rate of 1250 tons per hour. The new ship loader increases the flexibility of the existing installations. Today, these ship unloaders and loaders are capable of simultaneously loading a ship (at a rate of up to 1200 tons per hour) and unloading another ship (at maximum 2500 tons per hour). As an alternative, the operators can unload two Capesize ships at a rate of 1250 tons per hour each.

Low-dust loading

A high-capacity conveyor elevates the grain from the pier belt conveyor to the chain conveyor on the boom. This concept allowed the unit to be placed on the finger pier and required only minor pier installation rebuilds. A belt tripper carriage moving along with the loader transfers the material to a hopper incorporated in the ship loader. The grain is extracted from the hopper by the high-capacity conveyor and is transferred via the chain conveyor and the loading spout into the ship. The outlet slide gates of the chain conveyor open and close automatically in accordance with the position of the loading spout. Thanks to its great mobility, the loading spout can reach into all corners of the holds.  The operator controls the loader from the ship’s deck by radio. However, control is also possible from the operator cab. Aspiration systems and the loading spout dust suppressor head ensure low-dust operation.

New dust suppressor

The loading spout dust suppressor head regulates the material throughput so that there is always a material backup in the weigh hopper of the unit. This prevents the material from being discharged at high speed from the spout, preventing the generation of dust clouds. Operation of the dust suppressor is based on the principle of a cone valve. Its upper section consists of a dead box (for reducing the fall energy), and its lower section of the weight-controlled outlet. The remote control system regulates the cushion of material in the weigh hopper. Also the discharge of the grain residue from the weigh hopper toward the end of ship loading is remotely controlled. A sensor attached to the loading spout dust suppressor controls the clearance between the head and the cone of material in the ship’s hold. A similar dust suppressor is already in operation in the port of Hamburg. There, the environmental protection authorities have tested the device and certified its environmental friendliness.

Buhler is the global technology partner for efficient production systems, engineering solutions and the associated services in the food processing industry, in chemical process engineering and in die casting.
