Wyssmont's New Dryer/Calciner
Produces Pure Oxides
Fort
Lee, NJ -- The Turbo-Dryer® is being very successfully used
to continuously dry and calcine a metal compound to produce
the extremely pure oxide. The Turbo-Dryer was selected after
extensive testing of different types of dryers.
The
Turbo-Dryer’s ability to provide a controlled retention time
to produce a high quality product was an important factor in
the selection process.
This
unit is shipped shop-assembled with drives attached on an
integral base frame with insulated housing.
The
Turbo-Dryer is a proprietary continuous tray dryer design
that consists of a stack of rotating circular trays in a
sealed enclosure. Material is fed onto the top tray,
leveled, and after one revolution is wiped onto the next
lower tray where the operation is repeated. Fans circulate
heated air in the enclosure to provide the drying medium.
About
Wyssmont Company
Wyssmont Company designs, manufactures and services its high
quality, reliable Turbo-Dryer worldwide to the chemical,

Eriez’
Rare Earth magnet circuit utilizes the strongest magnet
material available to remove more fine iron contamination
and reduce product wash-off.
These
advanced magnets feature continuously welded construction,
and four sizes are available to fit most site glass loaders.
Customers can choose between two different magnet diameters,
1-inch or 5/8-inch (25.4 mm or 15.9 mm).

Briquetters Installed in Lumber Mills
Vancouver,
BC -- Briquetting Systems and C.F. Nielsen A/S have
installed two BP6000 briquetters into BSL hardwood
flooring in Quebec. Capacity of this plant is
approximately 10,000 tons per year. BSL is marketing the
cardboard packaged firelogs in 6 and 12 quantities
through major retail centers.
Another Nielsen briquetting
system will be installed this spring in Muscannell
millworks in Colorado USA where hardwood shavings will
be briquetted for commercial fuels as well as consumer
firelogs.
The firelogs are 3 inch
square x section and take up little space in handling.
Calorific value of the firelogs is higher than
traditional wood logs and have no chemical binders and
additives. A short puck version of the log can also be
made with the same equipment for the barbecue markets.
In regard to commercial fuels a puck shape can be
continuously produced which has similar size as
conventional hog fuels. Wood fines and dust which are
difficult to burn in boilers with traditional hog fuels
can now be burned efficiently in briquet format.
This will be of interest to
plywood sander mills operations as well as MDF and HDF
flooring producers. Masonite and cardboard residue from
door manufacturers have been turned into high value
industrial fuels. OSB plants producing fines can now
burn this residue with their hogfuels. Bark residue has
been successfully briquetted for use as a high density
fuel. Density of the briquets is in the 40 pound
per cubic foot range reducing handling and trucking
costs while maximizing heat values. Most dry wood and
biogass type fuels can be briquetted.
Less costly to set up and
maintain than a comparable sized pellet plant the
briquetters allow production of a varied range of
products and market applications. Nielsen A/S and
Briquetting Systems Inc. is presently conducting tests
for several of the major local Canadian lumber producers
as well as those located in the US markets.

Mr. Luotonen needs help with
iron ore pellets flowing:
My question is about how iron
ore pellets behave and flow in a closed vertical 25 m long
pipeline and how to determine the right cross section area
for this pipe.
Iron ore pellets are used in
steelmaking, density is 2.1 tons/cubic meter, size typically
6 to 12 mm, shape usually very spherical and surface smooth.
Are there any formulas for
calculations (propably not) or where could I find empirical
data for dimensioning ? (to post reply, click here)
Thank you in advance,

Mr. Haraw wants to know about
shot peening pipe:
Our plant has been
experiencing extensive skinning in our transfer systems.
We've worked on reducing the transfer velocity and pellet
temperature, but the issues have remained.
Our next option is to shot
peen the pipe. Is there any specific difference between shot
peening for angel hairs vs. fatigue life increase?
What shot sizes should we
use? At what rate should we run our pipes through the shot
peening to ensure that we have an irregular surface across
the entire pipe?
Our pellets are 1/8" in size
and are being transferred at an outlet rate of 3200 ft/min
across 100 ft of piping. (to post reply, click here)
Thank you,
Rami Haraw
