Cement :
Cleveland Cascade Chute Installed At Lafarge Plant
Paducah,
KY -- Lafarge/Sugar Creek was not pleased with the
performance of an existing chute for loading cement clinker
into trucks and contacted Pebco for their expertise in
loading. Pebco’s Chief Engineer traveled to the job site to
evaluate the existing chute and make recommendations for
improvement.
Pebco
worked closely with Lafarge and designed a Cleveland
Cascade® Chute with features similar to one previously
manufactured for another facility that was also loading
cement clinker into trucks. The chute features steel cones
with Triten liners to maximize chute life. The Cleveland
Cascade® Chute requires minimum maintenance and operates
free of product spillage and dust leakage.
The
solution to loading abrasive products is the Cleveland
Cascade® Chute. This design chute has successfully handled a
diverse range of dry bulk solids from finished cement and
alumina to calcined petroleum coke, calcined lime, wheat,
soda ash, potash, phosphate, lead oxide, clinker, etc.
The
truncated, oppositely-inclined cones, supported by straps
and covered by a wind shroud, enable material to be loaded
in mass flow at low velocity. In this way, the bulk
particles remain tightly packed together; thereby minimizing
the release of small dust particles. Operating on the
principle of mass flow at low velocity, dust emission is
minimized without recourse to secondary extraction systems,
while degradation and segregation are considerably reduced.
This patented chute has applications in ship, barge, truck,
railcar, and silo loading as well as conveyor-to-conveyor
transfer.
Pebco
Inc. is the owner of the North American Patent for the
Cleveland Cascade® Chute and is widely recognized as an
innovator in the loading of bulk materials. Pebco purchased
the patent rights from Cleveland Potash of England to
manufacture and sell the Cleveland Cascade® Chute in North
and South America.

New
: FlexWall Plus “Easy Change” Hopper Design
Mississauga,
ONT -- Andy Kovats of Brabender Technologie Inc.
demonstrates the NEW “Easy Change” hopper design for the
FlexWall Plus feeder. FlexWall Plus features Real Mass
Flow performance and compact shape in both Loss-in-Weight
and Volumetric models. Screw modules interchange from
single screw to twin screw.
Easy Change enables the hopper,
screw, tube and ingredient (e.g. pigment) to be removed in
seconds and replaced with a different ingredient hopper.
Downtime to change ingredients is virtually eliminated.
The hopper is easily handled as shown in the picture, the
feeder base with LIW scale, paddles and external motor are
left in place. A special self-releasing seal (not shown)
disconnects the feeder outlet spout from the process
connection.

Mr. Proctor wants
cool calcined stucco:
We are looking at cooling stucco after it
has been milled and flash calcined. We have thought about
drum coolers etc but they are too expensive and our product
is too fine for many of the standard designs.
We were going to investigate the option of
conveying the product in large ducts, powered by fans to
silos 20 - 25m elevation. These silos would then have a
cyclone and D/C set-up to handle the very lean phase
conveying. The hot air coming from the system could then be
used for a pre heater on the mill.
Would this system cool the stucco to the
necessary specs before it reaches the silo? Are there any
commissioned systems like this? and where?
The following is a typical specification
for milled and calcined gypsum (stucco):
-Stucco production 52,000kg per hour (or 2 x 26tph systems)
-Temperature at cooler inlet 150 deg C normal, maximum 160
deg C.
-Temperature exit the cooler or conveying system approx 70
deg C
-Bulk density 9,000 to 1,000 kg/m3.
-Particle size - approx 70 % less than 45µm
