Hi Everyone,

Tell Your Friends About Our Newsletter! >>

Interesting news from the PMMI, they cite an increase in packaging machinery sales in July.  That corresponds well with our overall pickup in "click throughs" our web site sponsors received in July.

Is a recovery lurking just around the corner?  Read on and decided for yourself...

Also, for all your students out there, Amazon has some great deals on textbooks.  I know, my daughter found a number of books she needed, at bargain prices.  Even better, you can sell your old books on Amazon as well.  Check it out and see.  I just wish they were around when I was in college!

Our goal is to provide information to improve your business by using the resources available on the Internet.

Thanks,
Joe Taylor

Packaging Machinery Manufactures

PMMI - New Orders Show Double Digit Increase

ARLINGTON, Va., Aug. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- According to the Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute's Business Conditions Index (BCI), the packaging machinery sector increased overall in the month of July, further indicating continued growth in the packaging machinery market.

New orders for packaging machinery increased 11.2 points, raising the index to 60. General business conditions increased 8.2 points, to an index of 61.4. Shipments dipped below the midpoint to 48.8 in July, reflecting a drop of 2.4 points. Quotations/proposal activities also experienced a dip of 1.8 points to 58.2, though they remain well above the midpoint.

An index of more than 50 indicates an expansion in the period and an index below 50 indicates a slowdown in activity.

The July BCI tabulates the input of approximately 100 of PMMI's 500 PMMI member companies. The BCI is based on PMMI's "How's Business" survey, a Page Two weekly poll of member companies. PMMI's Business Conditions Index (BCI) collects data on four business indicators: general business conditions, new orders, shipments and quotations/proposal activity on a weekly basis.

"Following a slow first half, the double digit increase in new orders indicates a significant number of consumer and industrial goods companies are eager to purchase new machinery," comments Charles D. Yuska, president of PMMI. "Companies know that the road to profits is through efficient distribution of goods to the marketplace. Packaging machinery manufacturers are dedicated to achieving the productivity and profitability goals of their customers through automation. Growth in New Orders is a solid sign of economic recovery."

Packaging machinery sales, quotation activity, new orders as well as general business conditions are leading indicators for consumer goods companies' consumer confidence. If consumer products companies believe that demand will weaken, they tend to not invest in new capital equipment. If, however, they feel demand will pick up, they tend to invest in machinery that will bring their products to market quickly and efficiently.

The Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute (PMMI) is a trade association whose 500 members manufacture packaging and packaging-related converting machinery in the United States and Canada. For more information on PMMI, visit http://www.pmmi.org/ .
