ARLINGTON, Va., Aug. 23 /PRNewswire/
-- According to the Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute's
Business Conditions Index (BCI), the packaging machinery sector
increased overall in the month of July, further indicating continued
growth in the packaging machinery market.
New orders for packaging machinery
increased 11.2 points, raising the index to 60. General business
conditions increased 8.2 points, to an index of 61.4. Shipments
dipped below the midpoint to 48.8 in July, reflecting a drop of 2.4
points. Quotations/proposal activities also experienced a dip of 1.8
points to 58.2, though they remain well above the midpoint.
An index of more than 50 indicates an
expansion in the period and an index below 50 indicates a slowdown
in activity.
The July BCI tabulates the input of
approximately 100 of PMMI's 500 PMMI member companies. The BCI is
based on PMMI's "How's Business" survey, a Page Two weekly
poll of member companies. PMMI's Business Conditions Index (BCI)
collects data on four business indicators: general business
conditions, new orders, shipments and quotations/proposal activity
on a weekly basis.
"Following a slow first half,
the double digit increase in new orders indicates a significant
number of consumer and industrial goods companies are eager to
purchase new machinery," comments Charles D. Yuska, president
of PMMI. "Companies know that the road to profits is through
efficient distribution of goods to the marketplace. Packaging
machinery manufacturers are dedicated to achieving the productivity
and profitability goals of their customers through automation.
Growth in New Orders is a solid sign of economic recovery."
Packaging machinery sales, quotation
activity, new orders as well as general business conditions are
leading indicators for consumer goods companies' consumer
confidence. If consumer products companies believe that demand will
weaken, they tend to not invest in new capital equipment. If,
however, they feel demand will pick up, they tend to invest in
machinery that will bring their products to market quickly and
efficiently.
The Packaging Machinery Manufacturers
Institute (PMMI) is a trade association whose 500 members
manufacture packaging and packaging-related converting machinery in
the United States and Canada. For more information on PMMI, visit http://www.pmmi.org/

Cleaning
Multi-Port Diverter Now Available in
2" through 8" sizes
Salina, Kansas -- Salina Vortex
Corporation now offers their 3-way and 4-way Wye Line Diverter Valve
in larger 8" tube and pipe sizes.
The
Wye Line Diverter provides reliable diversion of air and dry
material in pneumatic conveying systems. Self-cleaning, reliable
sealing and user friendliness are a few of the Wye Line's many
features.
Multi-Port Diverters can be
custom-built to allow automated transfer of dry material from
multiple sources to multiple destinations resulting in more
efficient use of personnel as well as enhancing material processing
options.
Multi-Port Diverters eliminate hose
manifold stations and the safety hazards, material spills and errors
that exist when manually switching hoses. Salina Vortex applies
their valves based on twenty-five years of proven application
experience.
Salina Vortex Corporation builds
their dry material valves one at a time. This way the valve is
specifically designed to fit your particular application (unlike
companies who may offer you an off-the-shelf valve designed to
handle who-knows-what). Industries served range from plastics,
minerals and chemicals to grain, fibers and foodstuffs.
