Take the ERC's Web Based Survey
------------------------------------------------------------
You Can Help Determine the Particle Science Technical
Training and Professional Development Needs!
Editor's Note: This is from an e-mail we received from
Steven Crouch asking for help in a survey they are taking.
Joe Taylor
Dear Joseph:
First of all, I want to complement you on an outstanding
web site! I have followed your progress in developing
the site over the past 9 months, and I find it to be one
of the best executed industrial source-sites available.
Kudos....
Now my real reason for this correspondence......
My company has developed a novel mechanical filtration technology
that has wide applications for wet/dry/mist/liquid filtration
and also fine particle classification. We are the developers,
and we are working with manufacturers who to license and
commercialize the technology. We are also engaged in a joint
venture with the Engineering Research Center for Particle
Science and Technology at the University of Florida (quite a
mouthful - ERC for short). They have developed a cyclone
classifier using our technology, and also a solid/liquid
particle separator.
The ERC is funded by the National Science Foundation, the
State of Florida, and Industry partners, to integrate and
promote research and education programs in a field broadly
defined as 'Particle Science and Technology' (PS&T). Their
definition of PS&T covers anything to do with the processing,
design, manufacture, handling, or use of particulate - across
a variety of industries. Web site at:
http://www.erc.ufl.edu/
(very academic). My company is one of 50 some Industrial
Partners (most are large, established firms - Dupont, Dow,
Cargill, PG&E, etc.), and I am a member of their Technical
Advisory Board.
Together with the ERC, a web-based survey for PS&T engineers
and scientists in industry has been developed. The survey
http://www.alexor.com/erc/index.htm
has just been circulated to the ERC's established industry
contacts. To make the survey meaningful, and reflect a
heterogeneous sampling of the industries involved in PS&T,
we need to survey people who are not already associated with
the ERC. Your viewers/users represent one segment of industrial
prospects for educational programs in PS&T. I wanted to ask
whether you would be able (and willing) to help us expand the
distribution of the survey through your newsletter and web
site. There is no commercial value to the survey - it is for
educational purposes.
Thanks for your time and attention.
Sincerely,
H. Steven Crouch

Ross PreMax Improves Dispersion Quality
------------------------------------------------------------
Charles Ross and Son Company now offers a new exciting
alternative to conventional High Speed Dispersers and Media
Mills for Pigment Dispersions.
The PreMax incorporates a specially designed close tolerance
rotor/stator to disperse pigments and provides a big
improvement in pumping capability over traditional high
speed dispersers used as pre-mixers for media mills. The
high flow rate combined with the close tolerance of the
rotor/stator, result in a highly efficient transfer of
energy to the product. The end result is a much faster and
better dispersion with less energy input than with
alternative dispersion technologies.
The PreMax is supplied as a stand alone design with a
hydraulic lift, or it may also be supplied as a component
of either the Ross VersaMix or Dual Shaft Mixer. These
two mixers are available in either fixed tank or change
can designs, and normally include three wing anchor
agitators to provide additional flow when required for
higher viscosity mixtures. These popular mixers are
available in vacuum or atmospheric designs and with
jackets to control product temperature.

Monitor Solves Problems in Bulk Solids and Liquid Applications
------------------------------------------------------------
ELBURN, IL. - Monitor Technologies' BulkSonics® line uses
ultrasonic technology to provide non-contact continuous
level measurement in either bulk solid or liquid applications.
Both the bulk solid and liquid line of BulkSonics® are made
up of two groups: sophisticated sensors and stand-alone
transmitters. Single and dual channel controllers and QUEST+
software, which helps to ensure reliable measurements, are
available for both lines. Additionally, both feature an
industry leading 5º beam angle to maximize performance and
reliability. User friendly diagnostics and a unique signal
pre-amplification, to provide maximum signal-to-noise ratio,
can also be found in both lines.
The BulkSonics® line was designed primarily to overcome dust
and acoustic noise in bulk solid applications. BulkSonics
have been used successfully with a variety of materials
including flour and fly ash. For bulk solid applications,
BulkSonics can provide a nominal measuring range up to 230
feet. The line features a variety of models including a
joystick aiming device to strategically aim the ultrasonic
beam.
Though primarily intended for difficult bulk solid applications,
liquid sensors and transmitters are an important part of the
BulkSonics® product line. Because BulkSonics utilize
non-contact sensors, they can be used with sticky or corrosive
liquids. The liquid line has a nominal measuring range of
up to 82 feet.

Hot Messages from the Help Forum

People post their requests for help and offer their suggestions

Mr. Hayden need help with bagging/packaging of animal bedding:
I'd appreciate help to identify a workable method to containerize
and bag animal bedding waste for disposal. The bedding material
is 1/8" and 1/4" corncob, and will be delivered to a central
disposal point via a vacuum system. The waste material must be
sealed and placed in a cardboard box for transportation and
incineration. The box is already in use, with a plastic bag
inside, filled manually.
The labor impact is large, so I need to automate the process.
Thanks ahead of time for any assistance. My contact information

Mr. Barry is trying to locate a conveying product:
Here's the situation: I recall (from a project in 1996) a
line of solids handling equipment under the product line
designation of "Bell Hop" (or something close to that). The
thrust of this product line was pressure transfer of small
amounts of solids (e.g., for loading of quantities on the
order of 5 lbs. or so into closed vessels).
I have a possible application for this equipment if I can
locate it. Can you help me find the manufacturer, please?
Thanks,
John Barry
