People post their requests for help and offer their suggestions to others in our open forum.

Mr. Harris needs to calculate flowrate from gate valve:

Does anyone know of a good way to predict the free-fall flowrate that can be expected when opening a slide gate valve at the base of a filled hopper?

I am expecting something that will relate particle size, bulk density and or particle density, etc. (Click here to post a reply)

Thanks
M. Harris

Mr. Thompson railcar dust control problem:

I have an application where my customer would like to eliminated the amount of dusting that occurs when they unload dry bulk powder out of the bottom of a gravity discharge rail car into a hopper which unloads into silos.

The dusting occurs when the material falls from the railcar hopper which is about 2 feet above the hopper.  The customer does not want to spend a lot of money on this so the use of a bootlift is out of the question.  We were thinking of a curtain of such that can be hooked to the discharge of the railcar and lay over the hopper.

If anyone knows of such a thing or knows a company that could provide this, please email me.  (Click here to post a reply)

Thanks
