25th Anniversary Powder & Bulk Solids Conference/Exhibition
------------------------------------------------------------
State-of-the Art Technologies and Special Events Fill the Aisles
Norwalk, CT. -- A show that has become a benchmark for
innovation in the dry processing industry, the 25th anniversary
Powder & Bulk Solids Conference/Exhibition continued its
tradition of excellence with an event filled with special
events, new technologies and the industry’s key players.
Held at the Donald E. Stephens Center in Rosemont (Chicago),
Illinois, on May 9-11, 2000 the event attracted a total of
9,989 industry professionals. This year’s event had its
share of new faces as well, with over 20 percent of attendees
participating for the first time at the show.
Established in 1976, Powder & Bulk Solids is unequaled in
scope and size and is considered the preferred industry
event by both exhibitors and attendees alike. Matt Bohn, an
attendee from TriQuest, LP stated that the event provides
one stop shopping. Said Bohn, "It provides a single central
opportunity to meet vendors, see state of the art packaging
and processing equipment."
Strategically located in the heart of the processing
manufacturing industry the event gave attendees the opportunity
to witness the latest trends from 600 key industry exhibitors.
Attendee Dr. Roja R. Challa of Reichold Inc. comments, "Powder
& Bulk Solids is organized very well. It has much more
relevant items for my profession that the other shows I
have seen recently."
Special Events Kick-Up Excitement
In celebration of its 25th anniversary, the show’s producer
and manager, Reed Exhibition Companies (REC) kicked off the
show with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony honoring the
exhibitors and speakers who have been with the show for all
25 years. The companies included Bauermeister, Inc, Dynamic
Air Inc., Endress & Hauser, Flexicon Corporation, Hapman
Conveyors, Micromeritics, Monitor Technologies LLC,
Nilfisk-Advance America, Inc., Prater-Sterling, Inc.,
and Wyssmont Company, Inc. Honored speakers were Dr.
John Carson, Dr. Jerry Johanson, Dr. Brian Kaye, Dr. Thomas
Meloy, and Dr. David Mills. A live performance from the
Emerald Society Bag & Pipe Drums served as the grand finale.
The a 70’s-themed 25th anniversary held on Wednesday, May 10th
was the talk of the town, complete with 70’s décor such as
lava lamps, vinyl records, smiley face candles. A retro
band, completely outfitted with wigs, bell-bottoms and
platforms entertained both attendees and exhibitors.
Show-goers also had the opportunity to take home a picture
of themselves with Elton John and Cher look-a-likes. In
addition, The 25th anniversary party held drawings for
prizes, such as round-trip airfare, amazon.com gift
certificates and Walter Payton’s signed football helmet.
The show also featured daily American Express gift certificate
giveaway prizes, sponsored by Monitor Technologies.
New Programs Strengthen Customer Relationships
To better serve relationships with their exhibitor base,
Powder & Bulk Solids instituted a newly developed Single
Point of Contact (SPOC) program. The SPOC program improved
exhibitors’ show experience by reducing the complexity
and number of contractor contacts on-site and to improve
the level of service. SPOC representatives walked the
aisles to help exhibitors with any issues that arose, from
drayage and electrical questions to lead retrieval and
concession area locations.
Additionally, the show implemented a new on-line appointment
setting program designed to help attendees save time
and keep them organized on the busy show floor. The new
feature allowed attendees to arrange dates and times
during the show when they would like to meet with
exhibitors. The appointments, and schedules can be easily
printed out for use. As an added benefit, the free
service allows exhibitors to check in and see how many
meetings they have prior to the show. Powder’s new on-line
appointment setting can be found on the Powder web site,
http://powdershow.reedexpo.com/
Back by popular demand, the Information Resource Center,
located in the main lobby of the Convention Center allowed
show-goers to obtain hard-to-find books, publications and
database information related to every aspect of dry
processing and material handling.
Powder & Bulk Solids 2001, is scheduled to run May 8-10,
2001 (Conference: May 7-10, 2000), Donald E. Stephens
Convention Center, Rosemont, IL. It is the largest and
most comprehensive event in the world for manufacturing
professionals engaged in the processing, handling, testing,
packaging, transportation and storage of dry particulate
matter/bulk solids.
Powder & Bulk Solids Conference
Each year, the Conference at Powder & Bulk Solids provides
a stellar learning experience for anyone involved in their
company's dry processing or bulk solids handling operations.
Nearly 375 conferees discovered that this year’s program
was no different.
"Widely regarded as the definitive training ground for dry
processing professionals, the educational program at Powder
& Bulk Solids Conference continues to be a driving force
in educating the industry," reported Mike Critser, Director
of Industry Development. "With an international speaker
base, our conference program gives one of the few
opportunities for dry processing professionals to learn
the basics or update their skills."

The Powder & Bulk Solids conference program is the largest,
most complete dry processing educational forum in the
country. It includes many of the acknowledged ‘industry
y experts’ from around the world. Its applications-based

SuperTower Performing for Georgia Ports Authority
------------------------------------------------------------
Georgia Ports Authority's new SuperTower Fanless Shipunloader
is discharging vessels at its Colonel's Island Terminal.
Blomkest, MN, USA - Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) recently
installed a SuperTower Fanless Shipunloader for operation at
its Colonel’s Island Terminal agri-bulk facility at the Port
of Brunswick, Georgia, USA. In early February, the first
vessel to utilize the SuperTower was discharged.
"We are very pleased to have our new vac system on-line and
operational," stated Charles L. Regini, GPA General Manager,
Agri-Bulk and Barge Facilities. "The new system, while further
enhancing a multitude of existing efficiencies at the terminal,
will now provide port users with unmatchable speed in the
discharge, storage and handling of agri-product. The GPA is
now more able than ever before to more aggressively compete
for additional agri-commodities currently transiting other
ports but better suited for our operations."
SuperTower travels the length of the pier on a mobile gantry.
The structure is fitted with a 25-meter boom to accommodate
the unloading of a wide array of vessels with ease. The
SuperTower’s flexibility provides dual loadout options - it
can discharge inside the mobile gantry into trucks or outside
the gantry into the GPA’s intake dockside conveying system.
The dockside conveying system transfers product to unit
trains or directly into facility storage without handling;
thereby gaining operational efficiencies and reductions in
handling shrink.
The SuperTower features an improved filtration system design
that allows the operator easier and safer service access.
The SuperTower’s modular fabricated design minimizes shipping
and erection costs. SuperTower was shipped by truck from
Christianson’s SuperTower factory in Minnesota to the Port
of Brunswick in nine loads.
The Georgia Ports Authority’s Colonel’s Island Terminal is
strategically located one hour south of the Port of Savannah
on deepwater on the South Brunswick River. The terminal’s
agri-bulk facility handles and distributes a vast array of
bulk commodities to include bulk grains, processed grains,
protein concentrates, feed minerals and other commodities.
The agri-complex offers a maximum storage capacity of 1.7
million bushels (59,900 m3) in combined upright silo and
covered flat storage as well as numerous acres of outside
lay down space.
