Grain Handling Equipment

UIW Announces Purchase of HSI Systems

Robert Curry of Union Iron Works, UIW, announced today that an agreement has been reached with HSI Systems, Huss & Schlieper,  to purchase the assets, records, drawings, machinery, and all other items, except inventory, associated with the HSI grain handling equipment business.

Click hereThe complete product line including repair parts will be offered by a new company under the same name of HSI Systems. officers will be Robert Curry, president and David Hunter, sales manager. David had a long association with HSI Systems before joining UIW 9 years ago.

The new HSI Systems will become an autonomous business within the current UIW companies. any warranty concerns prior to today will continue to be handled by "air-float", parent company of the previous HSI Systems and Huss & Schlieper companies. Both UIW and HSI Systems built their names in the grain industry as quality suppliers of heavy duty equipment to the country elevator, grain terminal and grain processing industries. as one company they will be fully equipped to carry on this tradition with knowledge and experience.

"This acquisition is a natural extension of current UIW growth plans," Curry states. "We will now be capable of offering the most complete product line of equipment for the grain handling industry. it allows us to expand our existing product lines of bucket elevators, drag conveyors , screw conveyors and belt conveyors to include distributors, cleaners and the complete HSI Systems product lines."

UIW has also recently developed additional new products including: drive-over pit conveyors, steel drop-in tunnels, towers, trusses and "Temp-Stor", the new way to temporarily store grain on the ground.

Cooperation

Niro and American Custom Drying Announce Agreement

BURLINGTON, NJ - December 5, 2001 - American Custom Drying Company (ACD) of Burlington, NJ, and NIRO Inc. of Columbia, MD, announced a formal cooperation agreement which combines the capabilities and experience of a custom spray drying processor, with a world leader in the design and manufacture of drying equipment.

Click hereSvend Keis Hansen, V.P. of Product Development at ACD, stated that the cooperation agreement "will offer clients the benefit of the combined expertise of one of the world's foremost equipment manufacturers and one of the top custom processors in the spray drying industry." 'Getting Paid What You're Worth' Increases A/E/C Firms Profitability

NEWTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 11, 2001--PSMJ Resources, Inc., the management information resource exclusively serving the Architecture - Engineering - Construction (A/E/C) industry, has released "Getting Paid What You're Worth: How to Effectively Price Your A/E/C Services", a guide to helping A/E/C firms increase price and profitability based on the value they provide clients.

"Getting Paid What You're Worth" presents a fundamental philosophical shift to A/E/C leaders: assess the overall value your firm brings to its client, versus focusing on the hard costs of time and materials. This guide steers readers away from the traditional method of hourly billing and toward establishment of fees that provide profit and ensure a firm receives the earnings warranted for its services. "Getting Paid What You're Worth" also teaches how to bill the bulk of the project fee in conjunction with the phases that represent the highest value to the client. Supplemented with worksheets, checklists, and exercises, each chapter focuses on how to promote company value. Topics include:

  • Positioning to command value
  • Positioning services for optimal price
  • Pricing reimbursables appropriately
  • Pricing change orders for profit
  • Managing cost
  • Negotiating price from a position of power

"With nearly 90% of design firms still using the detrimental practice of selling `time' on a cost-reimbursement basis instead of a price structure based on value, it is inevitable that overall revenues in the profession will decrease as investment in technology reduces the time it takes to complete projects," says Frank A. Stasiowski, FAIA, founder and Chief Executive Officer of PSMJ Resources, Inc. "The only way to counteract this erosion is to abandon selling on time and sell on a value basis."

To order PSMJ's "Getting Paid What You're Worth", contact PSMJ Resources at 1-800-537-PSMJ, visit www.psmj.com, or email your request to customerservice@psmj.com.

Help Forum

Hot Messages from the Help Forum

People post their requests for help and offer their suggestions to others in our open forum.

Mr. Baker needs a batching system:

We are looking for equipment to construct a small batch weighing system, The system is basically to take powdered lime from a ground level hopper to a storage silo above a weigher and to deliver batches into a mixer below the weigher.  The weight of each batch is 50-75Kgs and the Qty/Hr is around 10.   All items will be installed inside a building.  The power supply here is 230vac 50Hz single phase or 400vac 50Hz three phase and compressed air is available on site.

We will construct the silos and piping locally but we require
to purchase the following items.

1. A blower unit of some kind to take the powdered lime from ground level to the silo at 15Mtrs above ground level via steel piping.  This should be complete with all required motors, inlet filters for the blower etc

2. A weighing system which can be placed under the storage silo and which will weigh and deliver the programmed batch weight upon remote command. The ideal system would be in two parts,  (part 1) the actual weighing unit complete with load cells, pistons and doors for delivery and discharge etc
and (part 2) the weighing controller which would be placed remotely in the control room.

Any type of equipment which meets the above basic requirement can be offered.  Please contact us with any questions you may have.

Mr. Walter needs to discharge recycled plastics:

I am storing a granulated PVDC film.  This film has a reported bulk unit weight of 4.4 lbs/cu.ft. (I have measured it to be more around 2 lbs/cu.ft.), is irregularly shaped approx 1/4" dia., and is 3 mil thick.

This stuff is the worst flowing material that I have ever seen.  We are storing it in a 12' square bin that has a 3' square opening at the bottom emptying into a multiple screw feeder.  We get absolutely zero product flowing out of this bin.  We have tried bin vibrators and are currently trying to blast it with compressed air.

Any insight into this would be helpful.  I am not sure what is causing the non-flow and am wondering is static electricity is playing a factor.  Help!!!
