Flexibility

Worldwide Batch Control Market Is Poised for Growth

Dedham, Massachusetts -- After a year of little growth, the batch control market seems poised for expansion. The market for batch control systems (BCSs) in 2002 will exceed $2.4 billion, and will grow at an average annual rate of 3.4 percent through 2007, according to "Batch Control System Worldwide Outlook", a recently released study from ARC.

Improving Operational Efficiency Is Fueling the Growth

“Manufacturing efficiency and flexibility will be the key to meeting the needs of powerful mass merchandisers, and consumers are demanding increased variety and quality,” says Asish Ghosh, ARC Vice President and principal author of the study. To maximize return on assets, a manufacturing company should optimize not only its production plants but also its enterprise and supply chain domains. The need to optimize the supply chain is increasing the need for real-time plant and production information, which is fueling the growth of manufacturing automation and its integration to business system.

Growth Is Led by Pharmaceutical Industries

With a diminishing number of potential blockbusters in the new drug pipeline, pharmaceutical manufacturers are increasingly looking for manufacturing efficiencies to augment their bottom lines. This business driver will improve the opportunity for BCS systems.

In the food, beverage, and other consumer packaged goods industries, the number of plants is diminishing. However, they are producing an increasing number of more complex products. Maximizing manufacturing flexibility to respond to consumer demands for increased product diversity, convenience, and flexibility is crucial to the success of these industries. These factors along with recent regulatory requirements and enforcement policies are also increasing the demand for more sophisticated batch control systems.

In North America and Europe, stronger pharmaceutical and food & beverage markets will lead the increased demand for sophisticated batch control systems in those regions. With the recovery of the Asian economies, growth in demand for batch control systems in these regions will follow.

Automation Upgrades Are Becoming Increasingly Important

In the industrially developed world, there are many aging control systems. Though functioning, many of these systems do not meet today’s need for sophisticated control, historical recording for traceability, and human operator interface. Many of these systems need to be replaced by modern batch control systems on open platforms to achieve current regulatory requirements, easier upgrade, and reduced maintenance.

Mr. McGiffert wants to crush coal:

We are looking for a crushing plant that can grind coal to 10 mesh. We would like to rent if possible because the project is for 5,000 to 6,000 tons over 12 to 18 months.  (Click here to post a reply)

Mr. Fern is looking for TiO2 for ink production:

Question: Degussa makes TIO2 in a very, very fine powder form called P-25.  Does anyone else make it that fine?  I would describe it as the quality of a snowflake.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I am using TIO2 in an ink formula, problem is it sticks to fiber reservoir.
