Powders Show Breaks New Ground with Revamped Conference Program
------------------------------------------------------------
Powder & Bulk Solids Conference Program Expanding into Five
Days, Introducing New In-Depth 'Focus On' Program, and Offering
Showfloor Refreshment Breaks
Norwalk, CT, December 12, 2000-Powder & Bulk Solids Conference/
Exhibition, the world’s largest and most comprehensive event
for the latest innovations in dry processing and powder technology,
announced today a series of new improvements to its conference
program. The Powder & Bulk Solids Conference/Exhibition will
be held May 7-11, 2001 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention
Center, Rosemont, IL, USA. (Exhibition: May 8-10, 2001,
Conference: May 7-11, 2001.)
The Powder & Bulk Solids conference program will continue its
commitment to providing the dry processing community with one
of the most highly regarded continuing educational programs
around the world by expanding its offerings. The conference
program’s new features will include an expanded five-day
conference, an in-depth 'Focus On' educational program, new
conference tracks, and a series of networking opportunities
for its conferees.
"We’ve been working hard to create a program in which our
attendees can increase their knowledge of powder handling and
processing," says Kevin Richards, Industry Vice President, show
producer and manager, Reed Exhibition Companies (REC). "You won’t
find this type of quality course offering anywhere else in the
country."
Conferees wishing to increase their course load will, no doubt,
appreciate the fact that the Powder & Bulk Solids Conference
Program has been expanded into five days. Cindy Strachan,
Director of Industry Development, REC, explains, "Because of
the unique nature of powder handling and processing, opportunities
for in-depth education on the subject are fairly limited. The
Powder & Bulk Solids Conference has earned the reputation of
being North America’s premiere source for dry processing
education."
The new 'Focus On' program is integral to dry processing
professionals’ educational development. The 'Focus On' program,
to be held the morning of May 8, 2001, is a group of specially
concentrated courses led by a panel of world-renowned industry
experts. Each personalized session will provide practical
solutions and applications of developments in powder handling
technology, in an interactive format. The 'Focus On' Program,
designed specifically for those looking for more advanced levels
of education, will include the following topics:
* Focus On Agglomeration and Size Enlargement
* Focus On Automation and Instrumentation
* Focus On Dust Control, Generation and Environmental Issues
* Focus On Particle Characterization
* Focus On Pneumatic Conveying
* Focus On Solids Flow, Handling and Storage
Richards adds, "For those who do not have time to go back to
school and take advanced-level courses, conferees will have
the opportunity to brush-up on their skills in a matter of days."
New tracks for the 2001 Powder & Bulk Solids Conference are:
E-business, Environmental Issues, including issues such as
hazards, loss protection, dust control, dust generation, and
Professional Development, (such as skills needed to improve
employees). Returning to the program in 2001 are the
following popular tracks: Plant Maintenance, Packaging Solids
Characterization & Properties, Solids Handling & Storage, and
Automation & Instrumentation.
A sampling of the session topics include: acoustic cleaners,
blender selection, dust generation & control, explosion protection,
online research tools, packaging, weighing systems, powder testing,
particle characterization, science of powder flow, hydrostatic
weighing, dense phase conveying, bag packaging equipment &
materials, and tumble/growth agglomeration.
Returning by popular demand will be the Lunch and Learn Program.
Free to all full and one-day conferees, the popular and informal
luncheons are designed to bring participants together to exchange
ideas, share information or get answers to questions. Each table
at the luncheon will feature a discussion topic of general interest.
Industry experts will serve as moderators at each table, supplying
information and keeping the discussion moving.
In addition to the Lunch and Learn Program, Powder & Bulk Solids
will host coffee and afternoon refreshment breaks on the Powder
showfloor. Reports Strachan, "We have received feedback from numerous
conferees who said they would like more time to tour the showfloor
during their visit to Powder & Bulk Solids Conference/Exhibition.
These informal breaks will give conferees an opportunity to tour
the showfloor and network with exhibitors."
Strategically located in the heart of the process manufacturing
industry, the Powder event attracts an international audience,
from over 42 countries, who are engaged in the processing,
handling, testing, packaging, transportation and storage of dry
particulate matter/ bulk solids. For more information:
Please call 800-354-4003 or 203-840-5650

Bulk Technology 2001, Dusseldorf, Germany
------------------------------------------------------------
13 & 14 March 2001, Radisson SAS Hotel, Düsseldorf, Germany
Over the last ten years, global economic developments have had
an increasing influence on supply and demand trends in the dry
bulk market. This increase has impacted on the shipping, cargo
handling and transportation industries and, as a result,
capacity of bulk handling equipment has increased and, with
it, new technologies in design and manufacture.
The perfectly timed two-day event will address issues
concerning the latest developments in the bulk cargo handling
industry providing comprehensive, detailed coverage of all
aspects of bulk handling equipment. Bulk Technology 2001 will
be one of the most important international events for the
bulk cargo handling industry, The event will be an excellent
forum for those involved in the design, marketing, purchase
and use of bulk handling equipment.
..... from Coal to Powder and Granulars ........
The event will provide a wealth of information to those who
are considering buying bulk handling equipment. Bulk Technology
2001 will be an excellent forum to update technical knowledge
and inform participants of the latest and future design and
technology of bulk handling equipment. Each session will
highlight and discuss current issues, solutions and new
technology used in the design of the equipment.
Exhibition
There will be an exhibition adjacent to the main conference
hall and will be integrated with meeting points so as to
maximize contact with the delegates and visitors. You will
be able to promote your company products and services to a
wide range of senior decision-makers attending the conference.

Posimetric Feeders Sold For Coal and Aggregates
------------------------------------------------------------
Coal
ABB Alstom Acquires Nine Posimetric Feeders® For Title 1 Fuel
Conversion Project At Consumers Energy
Nine Posimetric® feeders have been ordered by ABB Alstom Power
to feed coal pulverizers at Consumer Energy's B.C. Cobb Station
and at the J.H. Campbell Complex.
Manufactured by Pennsylvania Crusher, the Posimetric feeders
will replace the nine batch scales and paddle feeders currently
in service at the Michigan stations. Because the Posimetric
units feed coal at a far more consistent and reliable rate
than ordinary feeders, and with greatly reduced maintenance,
they often bring significant improvements in boiler heat rate
coupled with minimal downtime.
Aggregate
A Posimetric" Feeder has been ordered by Ash Grove Cement to
feed the raw aggregate mill at their Leamington, Utah facility.
Installation is scheduled for the spring of 2001.
Manufactured by Pennsylvania Crusher, the Posimetric feeder
will replace the hydraulic triple gate system currently in
service at the plant. Because this new feeder uses no internal
flights or vanes to move material, and provides a material
seal at the feeder inlet, the plant expects to eliminate
mill air in-leakage while reducing maintenance and downtime.

Mr. Casey needs help with a salina slide gate
We are in the process of installing a new cement hopper with
a Salina stainless steel, air-actuated gate and a Bayshore
loading spout. My question is, should we install a butterfly
valve between the hopper cone and the gate? Are we asking for
trouble by not installing some sort of manual shut off valve?
Thanks for your reply.
