Silo Protection : New Pressure Relief Valve From Portasilo

Click hereYork, UK -- Portasilo have developed a pressure relief valve to comply with the guidelines issued by the HSE in the recent publication Guidance to prevent Over-Pressurization of storage silos during the delivery of powder.

They have developed the relief valve as the existing valves on the market do not fully comply with the guidelines with regard to the maximum airflow requirements and the need to keep the combined set pressure and pressure accumulation below the safe working pressure of the silo.

Model PRV350 combined pressure and vacuum relief valve is designed for protection of silos from damaging over and under pressures encountered during filling and emptying. The valve, which is capable of venting 13,000 m³/ hour in an over pressure situation and 5,000 m³/ hour under vacuum has been fully tested and certified with airflow's in excess of 13,000 m³/ hour under controlled conditions witnessed by the HSE.

The valve is available in a number of different materials and gasket combinations for a wide range of applications and industries. A range of upstands and adapters is also available for new and retrofit applications.

(Editors note:  After hearing about silo collapses, buckling and denting, this is a topic of interest to most of us.  Portosilo has a very interesting streaming-media video clip of their vent in action available on their web site, here is the link:  http://www.portasilo.co.uk/prvframe.htm )

Conveying : New USDA-Approved Flexible Screw Conveyor

Charlotte, NC -- Spiroflow has recently designed and manufactured a USDA-approved Flexible Screw Conveyor for product applications in the food, chemical, plastics and other industries.

The USDA Dairy Accepted/3A Authorized model allows the operator to use for diverse applications. The system's UHMWPE tube and steel spiral can be easily disassembled and cleaned with little downtime to reduce product contamination when moving and switching products.

The conveyor is easily controlled with an integrated pre-programmed PLC or by existing facility controllers. The conveyor, featuring locking swivel wheels for stability, is easy to maneuver, especially in tight facility locations.

Spiroflow offers a number of different tube diameters and lengths to accommodate required rates up to 100,000 cubic feet per hour. The FSC is favored by many industries including chemical and food where there is often a need for multiple applications.

Spiroflow is a manufacturer of dry bulk material handling equipment, specializing in bulk bag discharge and filling systems, flexible screw, pneumatic and aero-mechanical conveyors.

Low Profile : New In-Line Crushers for Pneumatic Conveying

Click hereKenilworth NJ -- The cutting blades of the new Flow-Sentry In-Line Crushers intermesh with a series of stationary bars to crush and break oversize chunks into a consistent, free-flowing material to prevent line blockages and make downstream operations more efficient.

Also, it increases the available product surface area which allows reactive processes (mixing, melting, dissolving, etc.) to occur more quickly and completely.

The extremely low profile design, as little as 2-inches, in some cases, of this patented crusher makes installation into existing systems easy. For example, the Flow-Sentry can be installed in vertical or horizontal pipelines from 2" to 20" diameter and is suitable for gravity, liquid or pneumatic (dry powder) systems. Most materials of construction and numerous design options are available.

Atlantic Coast Crushers manufactures and sells crushers, lumpbreakers, lump breakers, pulverizers, granulators, comminutors and other size reduction machinery for the process industry. They specialize in designing crushers and lumpbreakers, machinery that uses impact to shatter chunks, lumps, and agglomerations formed from friable materials.

Mr. Randall wants to grind up uncured rubber:

I have been told that you need a granulator that can be chilled or water cooled to grind uncured EPDM rubber.  If that is the case, I will need to have the material ground somewhere else in the Southeast USA.  Any ideas?

Mr. Shangxi needs help with hopper fluidization:

I have a question about fluidization of big through hopper under ESP. The big through hopper is for 2 fields of ESP2. The dimension of interface with ESP is almost 14.5mX5.6m, but the bottom of hopper is inclined with 11 degree angle and the width is 0.4m. The front height of hopper is almost 10m, the behind height of hopper is almost 6m.

We presume the level of dust is almost same horizontal. we provided fluidizing air for the chutes which is at the bottom of hopper to fluidize the dust in the hopper. The air ratio is 2m3/m2/min and roots fans' outlet pressure is 40kPa.

We wonder if the height difference between the front and the behind can cause bad fluidization. we wonder if the air will get into the dust or just pass though from the behind part and blow the dust back to the ESP2.

Is there any problems with the fluidizing proposal?

Please give your answer to my email (Click here to post a reply)
