UK Firm
K-Tron Expands Its Pneumatic
Conveying Business
PITMAN, N.J., Nov. 30 /PRNewswire/ --
K-Tron International, Inc. (Nasdaq: KTII) today announced the
acquisition of Pneumatic Conveying Systems Limited
("PCS"), a privately held company located in Stockport,
England that designs, manufactures, sells and installs high quality
pneumatic conveying systems and equipment for the food,
pharmaceutical, chemical and plastics industries. PCS's 2001 sales
are expected to be approximately 1.9 million British pounds
sterling. The purchase price was 600 thousand British pounds
sterling, which was paid in a combination of cash (75%) and notes
(25%).
PCS's products and capabilities
include the design of customized solutions to difficult conveying
problems, a standard range of vacuum conveyors for hard-to-handle
materials, an all stainless steel crack- and crevice-free
pharmaceutical range of equipment, expertise in conveying fragile
products without degradation and dense phase vacuum systems for
conveying products without segregation. Roger Burgess, one of the
two former owners of PCS, will continue as a director and head of
sales, while Hector Bickerton, the other former owner, plans to
retire after a short transition period.
Commenting on the acquisition, K-Tron
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Edward B. Cloues, II said,
"We believe that PCS is the premier vacuum conveying company in
the United Kingdom for the handling of difficult-to-convey powders.
Its customers include major food, pharmaceutical, chemical and
plastics processors throughout the U.K., many of which are also
served by K-Tron. The purchase of PCS by K-Tron represents a
significant expansion of our pneumatic conveying business and is
consistent with our vision to be a global leader in the field of
bulk solids material handling."
K-Tron International, Inc. and its
subsidiaries design, produce, market and service gravimetric and
volumetric feeders, pneumatic conveying systems and related
equipment for processing bulk solids in a wide variety of
manufacturing processes. K-Tron has manufacturing facilities in the
United States, Switzerland, England and Canada, and its equipment is
sold throughout the world.
Leading equipment provider to the powder industry British Rema
has successfully supplied and installed a five-meter diameter Unit
Air Separator at ScotAsh, a Scottish based Fly Ash producer.
The contract involved the supply of a model TD 500 Microsplit Air
Separator to handle pulverized fuel ash at its Longannet Power
station in Scotland. British Rema has extensive experience in
providing classification units for power stations. The model TD 500
is a new machine based upon an original design but with a number of
benefits including simple on-line adjustment of particle size and
increased classification efficiency.
British Rema Technical Sales Manager John Kemp said, "This
is the largest machine of its type which we have ever supplied!
It
is also the latest in a long line of our machines which are used in
the recycling process. The machine will improve efficiency for
ScotAsh, who will be able to change the type of material put through
the machine quickly and simply."
The new machine will handle waste ash from the power station and
extract product to satisfy the particle size requirements of BS
3892. Pulverized fuel ash is a by product from coal fired power
stations and is a lightweight particulate material with good
pozzolanic properties. As companies are being encouraged to use
recycled products, pulverized fuel ash is becoming used extensively
in blended cement and as an additive for concrete for bridge, dam,
road and building construction.
"This
is the best deal ever for Perry's. This book is the Chemical
Engineer's Bible...The electronic CD makes it even easier to
use - a very useful tool to any traveling engineer. I wish I
had the CD version in college."

Feeding Powders and Leafy Materials
Small Feeders for Lightweight
Materials
ERIE, PA - Eriez' has expanded its HD
Series "High Deflection" Vibratory Feeder line to include
two smaller drive units. The HD-26 & 36 size units are ideal for
moving smaller volumes of powders and leafy products that are
typically difficult to feed in an electromagnetic feeder.
The
HD Series "High Deflection" Vibratory Feeders combines the
higher deflection (3/16") and lower frequency (30 cps)
advantages of a mechanical feeder with the precise control of an
electromagnetic vibratory feeder. Available in five models and 16
sizes, feed rates of up to 80 ft/min are possible for products with
bulk densities less than l0 lb/ft3. All HD Feeders ship with a
standard variable speed control housed in an M Type (NEMA 12)
enclosure.
These High Deflection feeders
incorporate Eriez' low energy AC electromagnetic drive with a
patented armature design that reduces power consumption by 75% and
creates an exceptionally powerful drive for its size. The
elastomeric torsion spring provides quick stopping and protects the
fiberglass springs from overstress damage. Trays are available in
mild steel, stainless steel and in a wide variety of shapes and
sizes.

one at this temperature, I am interested in knowing what problems
