Eastman Completes Sale to BKG Pelletizing Systems
------------------------------------------------------------
PASADENA, Calif. and KINGSPORT, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)
--Nov. 28, 2000-- Global Chemical Company Profits from their
Intellectual Property by Using the Financial Tools of the
World's Safest Marketplace for Intangible Assets
The Patent & License Exchange (www.pl-x.com), the safest global
marketplace for intangible assets including patents, trademarks
and know-how, today announced that Eastman Chemical Company
(NYSE:EMN) has completed an international technology transfer
deal with German-based Bruckmann & Kreyenborg Granuliertechnik
("BKG") by using the information and risk reduction tools of
the pl-x marketplace.
By taking advantage of pl-x's financial services, including
their intellectual property (IP) valuation system, or TRRU
Metrics, and transaction assurance services, Eastman was able
to turn this intangible asset into a tangible source of revenue,
supporting Eastman's long-term licensing strategy.
"Without pl-x's services, this transaction would not have
occurred," said Dr. William H. Heise, Director of Licensing
in Eastman's Global Technology Ventures. "By providing us
with the financial tools we needed, pl-x reduced our financial
risks, making it possible for us to close the deal."
This international transaction involves the assigning of IP
rights for a polymer pellet-conversion technology from Eastman
to the German-based BKG. By using this innovative technology,
BKG will be able to improve the efficiency of turning tacky
polymer into pellets suitable for further handling. "By
obtaining the IP rights, BKG is able to offer its customers
security against possible patent infringement using underwater
pelletizing technology for tacky polymers," said Andreas
Woelker, VP Marketing & Sales with BKG.
Working through the international law firm of Cummings &
Lockwood, a pl-x subscriber, BKG and Eastman looked to pl-x
for assistance with negotiating this technology transfer
agreement.
But despite Eastman's desire to leverage the value of their
technology and BKG's interest in obtaining the rights to the
IP, the parties could not agree on how to mitigate the
financial risks of completing the transaction.
"We turned to pl-x because we needed their financial services
to help us close the deal," said Heise. "Using pl-x's patent
valuation system, we were able to verify that our negotiations
were on the right track. Because of these tools, we were
able to complete the transaction."
After weeks of negotiating over the price of the assigned
technology, Eastman turned to pl-x and the TRRU Metrics patent
valuation system to confirm that both parties were receiving
the fair market value for the asset. TRRU Metrics helped
Eastman verify that they had accurately negotiated a price
that was consistent with the market value for their technology.
"TRRU Metrics uses the Nobel Prize-winning Black-Scholes
formula and live market data to provide objective, market-driven
estimates of value for every asset on the pl-x Exchange. In
Eastman's case, TRRU Metrics allowed the global chemical
company to close their deal with less worry about whether
they were receiving a fair price for their technology,"
said Alexander Arrow, CFO and Vice-President of TRRU Metrics
at pl-x.
To ensure that the transfer of funds was completed safely,
Eastman utilized another pl-x risk reduction tool -- their
transaction assurance services, provided by pl-x strategic
partner, Chicago Title, a Fidelity National Financial company
(NYSE:FNF). A world leader in escrow services, Chicago Title
served as an intermediary in guaranteeing that the funds
were transferred securely from BKG to Eastman. With pl-x's
funds management, Eastman could rest assured that they would
be paid for the rights to their technology.
"By using pl-x to maximize the value of their intellectual
property, Eastman, BKG and Cummings & Lockwood have become
Intellectual Capitalists," said Kossovsky. "pl-x has provided
them with the tools they need to create value from their most
important assets -- their intangibles."

Acquisition GESRA Gerätebau GmbH by DMN
------------------------------------------------------------
DMN Holding N.V., owner of DMN Machinefabriek Noordwykerhout
B.V. and Kemutec Group Ltd., has acquired as per 2nd January
2001 a 100 % interest in the share capital of GESRA Gerätebau
GmbH. This take-over will enlarge the production capacity and
market reach of the holding considerably.
Both DMN and GESRA produce and export diverter valves and
rotary valves for the bulk solids handling industries. DMN
puts its products on the market using the brand name
DMN-WESTINGHOUSE. DMN and GESRA have the same core business
and marketing philosophy, i.e. specialising in designing,
production and distribution of bulk solids handling components.
The two companies will co-operate closely in the future
development of products and markets.
As a result of this take-over the production capacity and
market reach of DMN Holding N.V. will be extended. The
customers of both companies hereby benefit from a larger
number of products and a quick delivery time.
This expansion matches within the strategy of the holding,
which only last year acquired the shares (100 %) of Kemutec
Group Ltd. This company supplies products of the brand names
Mucon (iris diaphragm valves), Kek (sifters and size reduction
equipment) and Gardner (mixers and blenders).

Belotti Handling S.p.A. Reinvents the Reach Stacker Machine
------------------------------------------------------------
Belotti Handling S.p.A. is the company who has invented the
first Reach Stacker machine for container handling in 1969
and it is now presenting a totally new and innovative unit
with automated and sophisticated systems combined to a
futuristic design in the Intermodal 2000 Exibition which is
being held in Genova (Italy) from 29th November 00 to 1st
December 00.
The new machine is the result of more than 50 years of Belotti
experience in the construction of special equipment, the
prestige of Pininfarina design and the most advanced know
how studied and developed by the University of Robotics in Genoa.
The Belotti management is totally confident that with this
unit the operations of stacking containers shall be carried
out even by inexperienced people, if any, with complete
safety and speeds doubling the actual operating standards
in the market.
This very innovative Reach Stacker will have a speed more
than double the actual ones; in fact only 9 seconds to lift
the boom against the current 19 seconds and 19 seconds to
lift and at the same time extend all the boom against the
actual 31 seconds ( It has to be noted that the current Belotti
Reach Stackers are already the fastest machines in the world ).
Beside the acceleration from stand still will be superior
of more than 50% (300 meters in only 40 seconds).
An absolute worldwide innovation of this machine it is its
capability of stacking 9'6'' containers on second row
5 high (while 6 high on first row). This is possible due to
the Self Docking System (SDS) which allows to lock the
container behind the first container row 5 high (at more
than 13 meters level) even if it cannot be actually seen.

Mr. Yee needs info on flowability:
I wish to know what's the exact relationship between the
compressibility and the flowability of a product. Of the
two factors, mean particle size and size distribution, which
one contributes more on the flowability. Are there any specs
for these two parameters, if we want a good flow?
Thank you,
L C Yee

Mr. Lloyd needs help with wheat germ separation:
One of our labs at Harvard Medical School is doing protein
research using wheat germ. We are seeking an efficient,
dry method for completely separating wheat germ from the
wheat endosperm. We are processing approximately 500 kg
of whole wheat seed in order to obtain adequate wheat germ
for our experiments.
Does anyone know (or know a contact who would know) how
to completely separate the germ from the rest of the wheat
seed? We guess that very efficient techniques exist in
the food processing industry for doing this.
Thanks for your help,
