PowderProof : Professional
Solution For Sampling Powders
Lorrach,
Germany -- The battery-powered PowderProof can be used to
obtain a representative multi-layer sample of powders and
granules from any type of container quickly and
effortlessly.
Depending on the particular application, the modular design
allows different lances and spiral screws with a length of
30-120 cm to be attached and exchanged easily and without
any problems. Cleaning can also carried out simply, quickly
and without leaving any residues.
For
taking samples the lance is pushed into the sack or
container with the spiral screw rotating. The sample is
transferred directly into a sample bag or bottle. Excess
sample material can be simply returned to the sack by
pressing a button to reverse the direction of rotation of
the spiral screw.
All
parts coming into contact with the sample are made from V2A
stainless steel. Burkle also offers a wide range of useful
accessories, such as bottle baskets, sample bags and
close-it control seals, which makes simple and safe sampling
even easier.

Goodyear : U.S. Conveyor Belt
Production Up
MARYSVILLE,
OH -- Bucking the perception that U.S. jobs are migrating to
other countries, Goodyear's conveyor belt plant here has
added production capacity, along with more jobs.
Nearly
100 jobs have been added at the plant this year, increasing
the workforce by more than 35 percent to handle growing
demand from stepped up global mining activity, while
utilizing expanded production capabilities created when the
company transferred manufacturing equipment from one of its
Canadian plants.
The
Marysville plant is currently producing one of the largest
orders in the plant's 37-year history to be shipped to Latin
America. The eight miles of Goodyear Flexsteel ST3600
steel-cord conveyor belt weighs 1,300 tons and is one of
many production projects underway at the plant.
When
completed, the order will be shipped to one of the world's
largest open-pit mines located in the Atacama Desert of
Chile, producing copper, gold and silver.
According to Dennis Hare, business manager for Goodyear's
conveyor belt products, the overland belt will transport
crushed ore four miles to the mine's processing plant for
separation of metals.
Using
a patented system to evenly tension and space 95 steel cords
running the length of each belt segment -- enough cord to
stretch from the Marysville plant to Jacksonville, Fla. --
the 63-inch-wide belt boasts an operating tension capability
surpassing 3,000 pounds-per-inch-width. "Consistent tension
on all cords during manufacturing provides longer belt life
expectancy," said Hare.
The
Flexsteel ST3600 is also manufactured with Goodyear's
premium grade cover compounds with cut-and-gouge protection
on the top cover and low rolling resistance on the bottom.
Adding
to the belt's protection is Goodyear's Sensor Guard 2000
rip-and- tear detection system that uses a patented
technology to monitor embedded electronic sensor loops. The
loops pass by detectors and transmit impulses that stop if
damage occurs, automatically shutting down the conveyor
system.
Goodyear manufactures heavy-duty and lightweight conveyor
belts for material and package handling. For more

K-Tron : Earns Readers Choice Award
PITMAN,
NJ -- Chemical Processing, a Putman Media trade journal
serving the North American chemical process industries,
recently recognized K-Tron as the “Best provider of
technology” in the category of Feeders by awarding their
2004 Readers Choice Award for Feeders to K-Tron.
Over 20,000 chemical industry
professionals were invited to participate and asked to
identify suppliers they recognized as providing the best
technology. The survey was fill-in-the-blank and covered
40 categories of equipment. Without any visual aid or
other prompts, hundreds of readers shared their opinions.
Readers were asked to
participate only with those technologies with which they
have experience. Each category accepted only one vote; in
other words, every company named in the results was voted
#1 by a specific percentage of respondents.
In the category of Feeders, 22
% of the readers named K-Tron as the best technology
provider.

Pulp mill wants to remove
small stones and rocks:
Daishowa-Marubeni
International Ltd. (DMI), operates a Kraft pulp mill in
Peace River, northern Alberta, Canada. Recently the mill has
switched to in-bush chipping, which utilizes portable wood
chippers operating in the forest and Super B-train trucks to
haul the chips to the pulp mill. One of the unforeseen
consequences has been a dramatic increase in the amount of
small stones contaminating the pulping process and causing
considerable equipment wear.
At certain times of the year,
small stones become embedded in mud, snow and ice, which are
stuck to the undersides of the chip trucks. When the chip
trucks are emptied on end-tipping truck dumpers, vibrators
are used to shake the trucks to ensure the trucks empty
completely. Unfortunately, a considerable amount of mud,
snow and ice containing small stones is also shaken off and
end-up in the chip flow to the paved, outside chip storage
piles. Wood chips are reclaimed from the piles, screened in
a chip thickness screening system and conveyed to the pulp
mill.
DMI has a study underway with
Sandwell Engineering Services Limited (SESL) to determine
the extent of the problem and to find ways of eliminating
the stones from the chip furnish.
If, as is suspected, the rock
contamination problem is universal, it is conceivable that a
working group could be established to investigate the
problem on an industry wide basis.

Mr. Rollason
needs to debag granules:
I have recently been offered
a contract to deconsolidate 3,500 tons annually of granules.
They will arrive in 25kg bags, we need to debag the product
and fill 20' shipping containers and then redeliver using
our pneumatic conveyor equipped tipping trailer.
Can I buy a system in
Australia to slice the bags open and fill the hopper? I know
we will need a couple of silos so they can operate 24/7.

Spray Drying : USDA/FDA Compliant K-Valve Airlock
for Formula
Nestle USA's, manufacturing
plant in Eau Claire, WI uses a tall-form spray dryer for
the production of its infant formula. On the four outlet
cyclones where the powder is recovered from the hot gas
stream, Nestle was using flap-gate airlock valves. These
basic valves provided a very poor seal so vacuum was hard
to maintain. The airlock was also difficult to clean and
maintain. Metal on metal contact points of the flap gate
was also a concern in this high purity environment......(more)
