: "Hopper Design Example"
Jacksonville Beach, FL -- We are
pleased to announce "Hopper Design Example" a new class by
Joe Marinelli, in the Online Training Center.
Click
here for a Free Preview!

In Lecture 8, Design Example,
Joe Marinelli of Solids Handling Technologies takes you
through a typical design example. The example begins with an
assignment you may receive to design a bin and feeder to
reliably handle your product.
"Travel less - Learn more"
Joe discusses the actual data
plots that would typically be generated during testing of
your materials and their interpretation. He uses the Jenike
design approach to calculate opening sizes and hopper
angles.
Also, he discusses minimum
opening size calculations and hopper angles for mass flow
conical hoppers and wedge type hoppers. He also describes
funnel flow bin designs requiring calculation of your
material’s rathole dimensions. A design is ultimately
created according to the data and calculations made during
the presentation.
Lecture includes downloadable
class notes and a self administered quiz with answer sheet.
The seven-day subscription allows you to watch and review
this video class as many times as you need. All for only
$39, payable via credit card online.

Maxi-Lift signs Distributor in
China
Dallas,TX
-- Mitchells Equipment (Hebei) Co Ltd based in China and
Maxi-Lift Inc. from the United States are pleased to
announce the formation of a strategic partnership to supply
bucket elevators and components throughout China and the
Pan-Asian market.
“Mitchells Equipment has a tremendous track record of
supplying quality equipment, and their market reach made
them the ideal partner for Maxi-Lift to grow our business in
the region.” Said Bo Fisher, Maxi-Lift's Sales Manager.
Mitchells Equipment was established in 1994 and has quickly
grown into a major provider of bucket elevators and other
conveying equipment. The company moved into a new, state of
the art facility in 2007 to accommodate the growing demands
from their customers. The company’s market reach is now
global in scale and their equipment is prized by major
grain, feed and processing companies.
Maxi-Lift began producing elevator buckets in the early
1970’s, and has since redefined the market with the
introduction of several new styles designed for the higher
volumes demanded by their customers. The company’s flagship
product, the Tiger-Tuff is now used on six continents and is
the standard for port, river and rail terminals.
Michael Mittasch, Executive Director and an owner of
Mitchells reinforced the benefit of the partnership by
saying, “Maxi-Lift’s numerous bucket styles and their
tremendous quality gives our customers durability and
performance not found in other brands. We can really
customize elevator solutions in ways not previously
available to us.”
Mitchells will begin stocking Maxi-Lift elevator buckets in
their facility right outside of Beijing during the third
quarter of 2010. Stock on hand will be available for quick
delivery for new projects or replacement work.

Maguire Pneumatic Loader Lift
for removable hopper bins
Aston,
PA -- One of the most “operator-friendly” features on
Maguire® Weigh Scale Blenders has been removable hopper
bins, which simplify cleanout and job changes. Now Maguire
has taken this advantage a big step further with a patented
Pneumatic Loader Lift™ that raises a platform on which the
loaders are mounted, allowing access to material bins
without having to remove each loader.
The
system is available for an added cost of US $500 to
purchasers of new blenders equipped with removable bins.
Such blenders are among the smaller and most widely used
Maguire models, including the smallest, the MicroBlender®
(up to 100 lb., or 45 kg, per hour) and the MicroPlus™ (up
to 350 lb., or 160 kg, per hour).
The
Pneumatic Loader Lift works at the touch of a switch,
lifting the bin lid and the loaders atop it and leaving
ample room for the operator to remove the bins. Two safety
features prevent the operator from accidentally having
fingers caught if they are resting atop the bins when the
lid is lowered: The lid cannot be lowered unless the
operator presses two buttons simultaneously; and a large
rubber flange protruding from the rim of each bin leaves
more than enough room for fingers even if the lid were fully
lowered.
Company president and chief designer Steve Maguire provides
a demonstration of the system on a MicroPlus blender in a
streaming video, the link for which is on the Maguire
website home page. The hoppers bins are typically used
for natural resin, regrind, color, and additive.

Thiele receives $1.5M Bagging
System order
Minneapolis,
MN -- Thiele Technologies, Inc., a leading manufacturer of
high-speed packaging equipment solutions headquartered in
Minneapolis, MN, is pleased to announce the receipt of a
$1.5 million order placed by a prominent pet food
manufacturer for three new bagging systems located in each
of its three manufacturing cities.
Thiele Technologies continues a
long tradition of supplying equipment to the pet food
industry and continues to be the exclusive vendor for bag
filling and bag palletizing systems to this fast-growing and
loyal customer.
Thiele sales executive Brad
Fisher noted, “This new purchase is extremely exciting for
our company. It demonstrates the customer’s confidence in
our quality, performance and ongoing support. A long-
standing customer, they continue to be impressed by our
commitment to constant improvement. We strive to meet their
needs as the pet food industry – and their company – grows
and evolves.”
Each new system includes Thiele’s
4-station UltraStar as well as conveyors and spare parts.
This Star series bagging machine is configured with internal
paper and poly bag sealing stations, allowing for increased
efficiency compared to external sealers.
Thiele uses a servo-driven lower
conveyor and upper retention drives to transfer the bag to
and from the sealing stations, giving customers precise
transfers and total bag top control.
Allen Bradley HMI and PLC
products create a simple, central control system. Pre-charge
product filling creates less dust and reduces air in the
bag. These systems also include fully automated bag
deflation systems.
“Our competition worked very hard
to unseat Thiele with this customer,” reported Bob Odom,
Thiele flexible business unit vice president. “However, at
the end of the day, our proven track record, system of
continuous improvement and quality of aftermarket parts and
service support won the order for Thiele.”
These high-speed packaging lines
will be built at Thiele’s Northeast Minneapolis facility and
are scheduled to be delivered and installed beginning in May
2010. When complete, Thiele will have nearly 250 Star series
machines in operation globally.

Requirements for Biomass Sampling
Guest article by
Paul Janze

Good quality
control relies on proper sampling, which must be
accurate and precise and truly represent the main body
of biomass. Without good sampling, quality control is
based on false information. Bulk materials are difficult
to sample properly on a production basis... (Click
