Hoyer
purchases 20 percent share in InterBulk
Hamburg,
Germany -- At the end of December, the Hoyer Group, Hamburg,
signed a share purchase agreement (SPA) with a number of
shareholders of InterBulk Group plc. These shareholders
represent a stake of about 20 percent in InterBulk.
InterBulk offers a full range of
services including dry bulk logistics, liquid bulk logistics
and tank containers, operating worldwide. In numbers: 7,600
tank containers, 11,200 box containers, turnover in the year
ended 30 September 2009 GBP 232 m.
For Hoyer this is an opportunity
to buy a stake in a global player in the international bulk
logistics market, as InterBulk is a company with an
excellent position in chemical logistics, a leading role in
intermodal operations and a respected management team.
“We have a common interest with
InterBulk in chemical logistics, particularly tank
containers for liquid bulk products”, said Hoyer CEO Ortwin
Nast. “We became aware that there were shareholders in
InterBulk who would like to sell and so we seized the
opportunity.”
“Buying this 20 percent stake is
a very attractive investment, from our point of view. We
believe in the attractiveness of this market and its
prospects. We will be a supportive and responsible
shareholder” adds Hoyer CFO Gerd Peters.
The SPA is conditional on and
subject to the approval of the German Federal Cartel Office.
In legal terms, the transaction will be completed once the
Cartel Office has given its final approval.

VIBCO President appointed to
Rhode Island EDC
Wyoming,
RI -- Karl Wadensten has been appointed by Rhode Island
Governor Donald L. Carcieri to the Rhode Island Economic
Development Corporation (EDC) Board of Directors. The
appointments are subject to review and consent of the Rhode
Island State Senate. Wadensten is the President of VIBCO
Vibrators in Wyoming, RI and the host of The Lean Nation
radio show airing daily from 4-5pm on WPRV 790AM Talk and
Business in Providence, RI.
"I'm
honored to be selected for this important role," says Karl
Wadensten. "Rhode Island's economy is at a pivotal point and
I want to bring Lean to the forefront of the conversation. I
hope that my participation on the board means that the RI
EDC will spend more time visiting actual places where work
gets done. We have big challenges in Rhode Island, but there
are thousands and thousands of great, creative minds in this
state. We have the potential to do something really special
here."
Under
legislation passed by the General Assembly and signed into
law by Governor Carcieri in 2009, the EDC board was expanded
from nine members to thirteen members, and includes one
member representative of higher education. Under the
legislation, the Governor will continue to serve as chair of
the board and shall appoint the remaining members.
"The
appointment of this board marks the final piece in our year
long effort to revitalize the Economic Development
Corporation. With an expanded and more focused board, a
seasoned economic development professional leading the
agency, and a clear strategic plan to move our economic
development efforts forward, the tools are in place to
improve the EDC, be more responsive to our existing
businesses, support the growth of new industries, and
improve our economic climate."
Appointees serving a four-year term, to expire on February
1, 2014, include Alfred J. Verrecchia, chairman of the board
of directors of Hasbro, Inc.; Steven Lane, co-founder and
CEO of Ximedica; and Karl Wadensten, president of VIBCO.
"My
appointments to the EDC board include highly successful
business owners, young entrepreneurs, and representatives
from higher education. They represent small, medium and
large businesses across different industry sectors,
including healthcare and life sciences, communications,
infrastructure, manufacturing, hospitality and tourism, and
financial services and insurance," continued Carcieri.
"The
common thread they share is their belief in the potential
for this state to be great and their commitment to improve
our economic climate. The breadth of experience and know-how
to be successful will serve the EDC and the state very well,
and I am confident that their participation in the EDC will
result in positive change for our business community."
"Job
creation, and the related growth of our state economy, has
become the single most important issue in Rhode Island. A
critical first step is to change and improve the way
economic development is managed and executed by the RIEDC,"
said Keith Stokes, incoming Executive Director of the RI
EDC. "The new board leadership will bring an unprecedented
level of business leadership and expertise to lead this
important first step in rebuilding the Rhode Island
economy."

MPE's new G7 Turkish Granulizer
Chicago,
IL -- Modern Process Equipment (MPE) announces the new G7
Turkish Granulizer, which bridges the quality and
affordability gap between disc and roller-style grinder
technologies by combining them in one state-of-the-art
equipment offering!
It's
no secret that coffee produced utilizing water-cooled,
roller-style grinders is far superior than that produced on
disc, stone or hammer-style units. Additionally, until now,
there has been a considerable affordability difference
between disc and roller-style Turkish grinders.
The
MPE G7 merges the quality benefits of the roller technology
with the monetary benefits of the disc technology to make it
the valued equipment choice for many Turkish coffee
producers.
Technically-speaking, the MPE G7 uses a water-cooled,
disc-style grinder to first reduce the coffee to espresso
quality and then directly discharges the coffee into a final
Turkish grinding section.
This
final section utilizes the same roll technology as MPE's
larger Turkish Granulizers, so the quality is matched
exactly. The G7 achieves average Turkish grind sizes ranging
from 50 - 150 µm at capacities spanning 100 - 250 kg/hr.

Flexicon : New Sanitary Bulk Bag
Conditioner
Bethlehem,
PA -- Flexicon Corporation has introduced a new Sanitary
Bulk Bag Conditioner for loosening of bulk solid material
that has solidified during storage and shipment, allowing
bulk bag unloaders to discharge it through bag spouts.
The stainless steel conditioner
features two hydraulic rams with specially-contoured end
plates that press opposite sides of bulk bags.
An optional
hydraulically-actuated, variable-height turntable allows
conditioning of the bag at all heights on all sides. The
number and pressure of hydraulic ram actuations, the height
of the turntable, and the number of 90-degree rotations are
user adjustable.
The sanitary model is intended
for bulk bags containing solidified bulk food and other
contamination-sensitive products that cannot be loosened
using pneumatically-actuated flow promotion devices integral
to bulk bag dischargers. Carbon steel models with durable
industrial coatings are offered for general industrial
applications.
The unit measures 87 in. (2210
mm) H X 133 in. (3378 mm) W X 78 in. (1981 mm) D, and
accommodates bulk bags of all popular sizes. It is fully
enclosed on all four sides for operator safety and includes
full-height doors that are interlocked to disallow operation
of the system when the doors are open.
The system controller and
hydraulic pump can be mounted remotely or on the exterior of
the safety cage, and require only an electrical power
connection for operation.
The company also manufactures
bulk bag dischargers with or without integral bulk bag
conditioners, as well as bulk bag fillers, flexible screw
conveyors, pneumatic conveying systems, manual dumping
stations, drum/box tote dumpers, weigh batching systems, and
automated plant-wide systems integrated with new or existing
process equipment.

Lecture 1: Flow Problems - Their effects and flow
patterns
This first
lecture, in the Solids Flow Series, will cover basic
solids flow problems, the effects of those flow problems
in your process or system, and flow patterns. Flow
problems in your handling system can have serious
consequences, where reliable solids flow is essential,
especially with regard to operational costs and
downtime.
Some of the topics
discussed include arching, ratholing, flooding and
segregation issues. Joe Marinelli also discusses the
effects of limited live storage, spoilage or caking and
even structural concerns. The advantages and
disadvantages of flow patterns such as funnel flow and
mass flow are also demonstrated.
Lecture includes
downloadable class notes and a self administered quiz
with answer sheet. The seven-day subscription allows
you to watch and review this video class as many times
as you need.
