For Abrasive & Corrosive Materials

Meyer Introduces New, High-Temperature, Gatelock Valve

Skokie, IL, February, 2003 -- Wm. W. Meyer & Sons is pleased to introduce their new GateLock valves that are used to discharge bulk solids from a hopper while maintaining an air seal between the hopper and the discharge receiver. Designed for applications where rotary valves are unsuitable, the Meyer GateLock is a flap-type valve that minimizes system air loss while allowing the transfer of abrasive, high-temperature or corrosive materials between vessels with differing pressures.

Click hereTypical applications for the Meyer GateLock include ash, cement, mined ores and bulk powders and chemicals. In order to handle applications such as these, the Meyer GateLock design options feature models capable of operating conditions to 1,650°F and pressures to 25 PSI and 50" Hg. The valves are available in three sizes; 8, 10, and 12 inch, and in a number of heights. Custom heights are also available.

Depending on characteristics of the material, the GateLock seat and flaps are available in hi-chrome, white iron or special alloys. The housing is available in steel, stainless steel or from special alloys. The GateLock features a single piece housing for its single, double or triple flap arrangement. The single piece housing design for multiple flaps allows for greater capacities over the traditional orientation of single flap valves used in tandem.

Actuation can be pneumatic, electromechanical or gravity-type. Meyer's pneumatic-type GateLock utilizes a rotary actuator as opposed to a pneumatic cylinder. The rotary actuator can withstand higher material temperatures due to its mounting location in relation to the housing.

Wm. W. Meyer & Sons manufactures a complete line of processing control components including rotary airlock feeders, gravity diverters, flap gates, plug valves, slide gates and pressure line diverter valves. All are engineered and manufactured to meet the individual customer's application needs.

Becoming a Demand Driven Company

SAP Supplies BHP With Mining-Specific Software

MELBOURNE, Victoria, Australia, Feb. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SAP AG today announced that BHP Billiton has successfully implemented mySAP Supply Chain Management (mySAP SCM) to manage its global manganese business from the mines to stockpiles to end customers. BHP Billiton, the world's largest diversified resources company, joins an ever-growing list of global companies leveraging mySAP SCM, the world's leading supply chain management solution.

Click hereKey capabilities of mySAP SCM will help BHP Billiton manage every aspect of its global supply chain, enabling more visibility into operations, flexible decision-making, and integrated planning to reduce inventories and transportation costs.

"Our vision at BHP Billiton clearly is to become a demand-driven resources company and to move our entire enterprise-wide processes to a more customer-centric approach while reducing costs and improving our profitability," said Marius Kloppers, chief marketing officer at BHP Billiton. "By deploying mySAP SCM, we will increase our flexibility to respond to our customer's changing demands and we will be able to realize significant savings in our global supply chains by reducing inventories and handling costs."

The implementation of mySAP SCM for BHP Billiton's global manganese business was the first phase of a global rollout project of mySAP SCM. It was realized within a timeframe of nine months and comprised the usage of different capabilities of SAP Advanced Planning and Optimization (SAP APO): demand planning, supply network planning, and global available-to-promise.

For the second phase of the rollout, BHP Billiton plans to extend the current supply chain solution model to include transportation planning and execution. BHP Billiton selected the SAP Trader's and Scheduler's Workbench (SAP TSW), a component of SAP's industry solutions mySAP Mining and mySAP Oil & Gas, to specifically handle bulk transportation management. This enhanced solution model will be gradually rolled out to all commodities starting with iron ore and coal.

"Together with BHP Billiton, we have created a complete supply chain management solution that is unique in the resources industry," said Nils Herzberg, senior vice president, Manufacturing & Distribution, SAP AG. "SAP took the innovative approach of adapting functionality of SAP TSW that was originally developed for the petroleum industry but closely fit the needs of mining companies. Working jointly with BHP Billiton, we tailored it to directly meet mining-specific requirements. The co-developed solution component is now available in the latest release of mySAP Mining and will be made available to other customers in the industry." SAP will present its solutions together with its service, technology, and small and midsize business (SMB) partners at SAP's main booth in hall 4 at CeBIT 2003, being held in Hanover, Germany, March 12-19.

SAP is the world's leading provider of business software solutions. Through mySAP Business Suite, people in businesses around the globe are improving relationships with customers and partners, streamlining operations, and achieving significant efficiencies throughout their supply chains. Today, more than 19,300 companies in over 120 countries run more than 60,100 installations of SAP software. Additional information at http://www.sap.com/

People post their requests for help and offer their suggestions to others in our open forum.

Mr. Jenkins wants a valve for abrasive powders:

I am looking for a valve to put under a slightly positive pressure tank so abrasive powder can be removed easily from the tank.

Ball valves get too much powder built up in them and take a hammer and two men to open them. Gate and butterfly valve wear to quickly and leak.

Does anyone have a suggestion on a different type of valve that does not leak, is easy to open and is economically priced?
