Shipments Down, Booked Orders Up

CEMA Reports Booked Orders Up 14% For December

CEMA Monthly Statistics Report, December 2001

February 2002 - Naples, FL. -- The Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association reported that its December 2001 Booked Orders Index was 138 up 16 points or an increase of 12% from November 2001’s Index of 122 (1990=100). The December 2001 Index represents an increase of 14% from the December 2000 Index of 119.

Click hereDecember Booked Orders Indexes were 68 for Bulk Handling Equipment * and 160 for Unit Handling Equipment* (1990=100).

The Twelve-Month Index for Booked Orders was 159 in December. Index represents an increase of 1% from November 2001’s Twelve-Month Index of 158.

The CEMA Billed Sales (shipments) Index was 161 in December down 37 points or a decrease of 19% from the November Index of 198. The December 2001 Index represents a decrease of 40% from the December 2000 Index of 269.

December Billed Sales Indexes were 76 for Bulk Handling Equipment * and 163 for Unit Handling Equipment* (1990=100).

The Twelve-Month Index for Billed Sales was 241 in December. Index represents a decrease of 4% from November 2001’s Twelve-Month Index of 250.

Note: Significant adjustments were made this month to correct reporting errors by member companies this year in Unit Handling Components and Conveyor Chain.  * Since Bulk Handling Systems booked and billed sales are reported quarterly, they are averaged back to the two preceding months to enable a running monthly index.

Founded in 1933, CEMA is the trade association of leading North American conveyor equipment manufacturers. CEMA tracks seven classes of unit handling equipment and five classes of bulk handling equipment.

"Ultra Slick Surface"

Liners Provide Steady Release for Heavy Equipment

Fort Wayne, Ind. - Poly Hi Solidur has announced the addition of a new product to its QuickSilver product line, QuickSilver Off-Road. Developed for use in off-road articulated and rigid frame dump trucks, and heavy equipment (scrapers, buckets, dozer blades, etc.), QuickSilver Off-Road exhibits excellent release properties and reduces installation time by more than 50 percent .

Click hereQuickSilver Off-Road features an ultra slick surface, excellent sliding abrasion resistance and is UV-, impact-, corrosion-, and moisture-resistant, reducing carryback of bulk materials such as coal, minerals, ores, clay, overburden and dirt, even at freezing temperatures. In addition, QuickSilver Off-Road is available in prefabricated kits that include predrilled fastener holes and all necessary hardware and can be professionally installed on-site in approximately half the time it would take to measure, cut and install the same size liner from sheet.

According to Joe Wolfcale, Bulk Materials Handling Business Unit Manager, heavy equipment owners and articulated truck haulers will see immediate results after installing a QuickSilver Off-Road liner.

"The slick surface of the liner, a key property of QuickSilver Off-Road, allows bulk materials to release quickly, cleanly and completely," Wolfcale said. "By reducing the carry-back, you also reduce the downtime associated with, and damage caused by, backhoe scrapping. At the same time, you increase your hauling capacity and that has a positive impact on your bottom line."

"And not only does the liner provide excellent release," he explained, "it also protects the integrity of the original equipment, resulting in lower replacement and maintenance costs."

Poly Hi Solidur is the world's largest processor of semi-finished UHMW-PE, sold under the TIVAR and QuickSilver brand names, as well as the world's leading manufacturer of polymer lining material for hoppers, chutes, and other process equipment.

Poly Hi Solidur's bulk material handling group has been providing flow solutions to a variety of industries for more than 30 years. Headquartered in Fort Wayne, Ind., Poly Hi Solidur has manufacturing, fabricating and sales facilities worldwide, including the U.S., Europe, Asia, South Africa, Australia, Brazil and Latin America.

Totally Eradicating Insects Without Chemicals

Palcon Introduces New Heat-Treated Hardwood Pallets

February 2002 - Palcon HT Pallets (Heat-Treated) were developed to comply with international export regulations and for use in any industry that cannot risk insect contamination. Unlike a fumigated pallet, Palcon HT Pallets are heat-treated or heat-sterilized. Heat-treating is a safe and effective method for totally eradicating insects and preventing future contamination. Heat-treating does not use dangerous chemicals and there is no risk of product contamination.

Palcon HT Pallets are heat-treated hardwood pallets, which are much stronger than coniferous -softwood pallets. In addition, heat-treated pallets are dry and lighter in weight than standard hardwood pallets.

The pallets are certified heat-treated pallets and approved for export into EU Countries (European Union) and various countries with wooden packaging import/export requirements. In addition, starting as early as March of 2002, new international wood packaging requirements will begin.

These new regulations will mandate the treating or fumigating of all wooden pallets, including hardwood pallets, being shipped into EU countries. Palcon heat-treats and heat-sterilizes pallets in a state-of-the-art unit designed to treat multiple truckload quantities at a time. The unit monitors, controls, and records core lumber temperatures throughout the entire chamber. Core temperature is maintained at a minimum of 56°C for at least 30 minutes for EU pallets and at 74°C for Australian pallets.

The Palcon Pallet comes in a variety of dimensions and can be custom built for individual applications. In addition, Palcon can treat and certify used wooden pallets.

Mr. Philos needs a drum discharger:

I'm looking for a simple closed drum discharge unit for reactor filling, GMP approved (instead of clean room for drums discharge) .

Mr. Waters needs fan curves:

I have several 12"dia x 8 blade axial fan blades at my disposal and I have no data for them.  They are a cast aluminum blade with a machined bore that accepts a taper bushing.  Basically they are a generic blade.

If anyone can point me in some direction with respect to capacity, pressure, power, etc. I would appreciate it.
