"Flow Easy" - New Powder Rheometer Introduced
------------------------------------------------------------
Following pan-European and American launches in the food and
pharmaceuticals industries, Stable Micro Systems will be
showing its revolutionary system for accurately measuring the
flow properties of powders and granules. The introduction of
the ManUmit Powder Rheometer is regarded as one the most
significant developments in bulk solids handling in the past
decade. It will help manufacturers to avoid typical problems
such as batch and source variation of ingredients, caking
during storage and sticking during production and filling.
The new Powder Rheometer measures the flow properties not
only of dry powders, but also cohesive powders and granules.
Its innovative approach to the characterization of flow
properties provides users and manufacturers with essential
data on the rheology of these critical materials.
The ManUmit Powder Rheometer is an accurate, user-friendly
instrument that is capable of pre-conditioning the powder
sample, and then repeating exactly the same flow test time
after time. The operating principle of the ManUmit Powder
Rheometer is simple - a specially designed rotary blade,
similar to a boat’s propeller, is rotated through the powder
sample. By measuring the force, torque and energy profile
necessary to rotate the blade through the sample, the
rheometer provides highly sensitive data on the sample’s
flow properties. To ensure that the data accurately mimics
real-life applications, the ManUmit Powder Rheometer from
Stable Micro Systems can precondition the sample for
testing in an aerated or compacted state, as required,
and then cause flow by slicing, shearing, compacting or
lifting. The user controls the test speed and the angle of
the blade path so as to ensure the flow caused is
complimentary to the required sample characteristic,
and the process conditions.
The design and operation of the ManUmit Powder Rheometer has
been optimized for ease of use. Testing is possible with
only very small sample volumes, as low as 10ml, which
minimizes both disruption and expense. These samples are
placed in a precision stainless steel or borosilicate glass
sample vessel; the latter allows users to monitor what is
happening to the powder as the sample is displaced. The
data is gathered and analysed and subsequently presented
as graphs, which are quickly and simply interpreted. By
providing a single diagram representing the flow properties
of the sample, users can easily compare and rank different
samples and materials.
The ManUmit Powder Rheometer will be welcomed by manufacturers
as it allows objective testing of raw materials, blends and
finished products as diverse as paint, grain, pesticides,
bulk chemicals, minerals, cement and flour.

TSM Vac350 Vacuum Sequencing Unit
------------------------------------------------------------
The one thing you do NOT want to worry about when running a
production line is the materials handling system. Getting
the quality product out the far side is tough enough without
getting stressed over how to get the virgin compound into the
right place in the first place.
With expanding functionality at the core of a lot of new material
handling purchases, quality products are not alone those that
will manage to keep the extruder/ molding machine fed, but
those that will be able to cope if you buy another 3 extruders
or molding machines.
TSM's integrated vacuum-loading system is made up of the new
central Vac 350 Vacuum Sequencer; a centralized vacuum pump
station, dust filter (with integral blow-back facility for
easy cleaning), and individual vacuum receivers/ loaders
(situated on top of the material reservoir bins)
The Vac 350 can handle up to 50 remote Vacuum Loaders and 2x
individual vacuum pumps, even on different lines. To prevent
production hang-ups and ensure that main components are always
in plentiful supply the system allocates each individual
component material with a "Fill Priority" ranging from one to
five - all main components normally being given a high priority
of one. Various filling sequences can be pre-programmed by
the operator depending upon priority of material requirements
- ensuring the production system is never starved of vital
ingredients.
Another key advantage of Vac 350 system is the ease of upgrade.
Any additional Vacuum Loaders can be serially connected in a
'daisy-chain' fashion and allocated an ID number, which is
pre-programmed into the Vac 350 Sequencer. This component
material is then immediately recognized and filling is commenced.
It is also easily integrated with other existing non-TSM vacuum
receivers. All that is needed is a flap valve status signal (or
similar), and an antiquated existing materials handling set-up
is sucked vigorously into the 21st century.

Real-Time Inventory Visibility Solution For Bulk Commodities
------------------------------------------------------------
ST. LOUIS - Feb. 20, 2001 - BulkVision will deliver accurate
inventory availability information; improve operational
efficiency across the supply chain
Transentric, a leading supply chain vision and transportation
management company, has introduced BulkVision(TM), a new
inventory visibility software solution.
BulkVision provides real-time visibility of products moving
through the supply chain by adding on-site inventory and
in-transit inventory with ETAs to generate an accurate total
of "available inventory." BulkVision goes beyond existing
decision support tools to identify where, how much and when
future orders need to be placed to ensure uninterrupted product
availability.
This Web-based product is targeted toward supply chain, logistics,
asset and transportation managers at companies who ship or
receive bulk products such as chemicals, food, minerals, paper
and lumber by any mode of transportation.
Tools to manage inventory replenishment as well as determine an
accurate "available inventory" are key to reducing the risk of
product run-out, reducing inventory costs and enhancing customer
service. Shippers, consignees and third party logistic providers
can receive and view all the common information surrounding
an order. Alerts and reports enable users to make better
informed inventory decisions (e.g. destinations and ETAs of
shipments, how much is loaded en route, what assets are
returning, and more). This lowers the cost of inventory by
eliminating unnecessary stock and improves the overall
operational efficiency of the supply chain.
"Last week Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan said that new
technology for supply chain management - specifically
those solutions designed to view inventory in real time
- can cut production costs by reducing unintended inventory
building," said Ken Olsen, assistant vice president of
Transentric. "BulkVision is at the core of what Greenspan
discussed."
Solvay Minerals has been using BulkVision as a pilot customer
for more than 1 year and has incurred numerous cost savings.
Andrew Bricker, logistics analyst with Solvay Minerals said,
"BulkVision has allowed Solvay to plan ahead when service
problems arise. Producing, transporting and consuming raw
materials are a continuous process that can cost a company
millions if forced to shut down. BulkVision can show us
graphically at what point our customers will fall below
zero inventory and gives us the necessary advanced
notification time to plan out alternatives."

New Poultry Weigh/Bagging Systems Enhance Accuracy & Efficiency
------------------------------------------------------------
GAINESVILLE, Ga.- Feb. 20, 2001- GS-3100 weigh/bagging systems
from Gainco, Inc. deliver heightened levels of accuracy,
versatility and cost-saving performance.
Completely engineered and built in the USA, these systems are
ideally suited to the full range of weigh/bagging applications,
including drumsticks, tenders, wings, boneless breasts, paws
and leg quarters.
Among the many productivity-enhancing features of Gainco
weigh/bagging systems is the ability to accommodate each
user's specific wicketed bag requirements, including adjusting
weight set-points and lower/upper limits. A "quick change"
wicket holder facilitates the rapid reloading of bags, while
a check weighing feature guards against overpacking.
Versatile controllers provide easy flexibility in program
setup and operation, and battery-backed memory has been
designed into the system for recording the total number of
bags, total weight, plus all setup parameters. A host PC can
be connected to multiple bagging systems for centralized
reporting, setup control, and yield analysis. The incorporation
of "auto-zero" software automatically adjusts for any product
accumulation on the hopper surfaces to ensure better weighing
accuracy.
Gainco weigh/bagging systems have been designed to operate
in a variety of configurations, such as manual loading with
either automatic or operator-selected product discharge,
or conveyor loading with either automatic or operator
selected discharge.
Both standard and dual-station weigh/bagging systems are
available. The dual-stage systems are particularly well
suited for conveyor-fed, high-volume product applications
where varying customer requirements or floor space
considerations are a factor. The bi-directional buffer
hopper controls the flow of product to two weigh stations,
thereby doubling the bagging capacity for a single product
stream. Flexibility is enhanced with dual-station
weigh/bagging systems by alternately filling bags of varying
sizes, according to differing customer requirements.
All Gainco weigh/bagging systems feature sturdy, sanitary
stainless steel construction for rugged durability and
long-life performance.
Since 1984, Gainco, Inc. has been a leader in the
development of online electronic weighing, sizing and
distribution systems for the poultry industry. In
addition to whole bird sizing and distribution systems,
the company's comprehensive product line includes
in-motion portion sizing equipment, high-speed sorting
and counting systems for whole birds, fronts and
saddles, batch weighing equipment for processing
poultry parts into bags or boxes, plus bird counting
systems.
Gainco systems and equipment are installed in the
facilities of all major U.S. poultry processing
companies, as well as overseas. In 1999, Gainco became
a subsidiary of Bettcher Industries, Inc.
