Seeking Outside Expertise

CEMA Updates Book on "Belt Conveyors for Bulk Materials"

Naples, Florida -- 2/2003 -- The Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association, CEMA, is updating the book "Belt Conveyors for Bulk Materials".

The Committee working on the project has determined that there are some topics that will require outside resources to adequately update and is seeking that expertise from all available sources.  The Committee has developed several "Scope of Work" documents covering these topics and is seeking budgetary estimates for the work so that it can request authorization for the funds from the CEMA Board of Directors to have the work done.

Metal-Free Processing

Eirich & Noll Strengthen Through Technology Exchange

The innovative combination of Eirich milling and Noll classifying technology has created entirely new perspectives in the powder processing industry. In December 2002 a breakthrough in milling and classifying technology was achieved with the combination of the Eirich MaxxMill and the Noll MultiNo-SE Classifier. The combined units were started up at the Noll Cologne site in Germany, with immediate success.

Click hereBased on the available impressive results, Eirich has also decided upon the acquisition of the classifier to upgrade their technical laboratory. The Eirich MaxxMill is very well suited for products, that up to now have been processed on standard ball mills, and that require cost effective processing and constant quality. The quality and performance potential of the MaxxMill was rightly recognized and through the design and construction of a special classifier for the finest size range (D50 ˜ 1 - 40µm) effectively improved.

Producers who have so far milled their products in large quantities by wet ball milling or smaller quantities using jet milling technology to very fine particle sizes, can now, through the use of this dry system, save time, energy and processing costs. On top of that, the equipment can be used much more flexibly because of its much lower starting quantities and waste-material quantities, which is especially important in the processing of high cost materials.

The arrangement is specially suited for the metal-free processing of ceramic raw materials, minerals, frits and glazes with higher throughput and sharper top cut in the finest size range. Through this technology exchange the strengths of the two companies, Noll's classifying technology and Eirich's milling technology, are used to achieve new possibilities in the powder processing industry.

Eriez Magnetics Opens Facility in China

Erie, PA -- Eriez has announced the opening of a new manufacturing and sales facility in China. The plant is located in Shanghai’s Pudong, free trade zone. This new facility positions the company to expand sales of core magnetic and vibratory products planned to be manufactured in China while increasing US domestic sales of advanced separation and vibratory equipment by being more competitive.

Currently, Eriez annually exports $3 million of sophisticated magnetic separation and minerals processing equipment used in China’s coal mining operations. According to Dr. Kou, General Manager, Eriez – China, “The new facility in China will provide not only a low-cost manufacturing base to compete in China’s growing ceramic, plastic and food processing markets, but will also improve sales, service and aftermarket support on advanced equipment imported from the United States.”

The Chinese market has become Eriez’ largest export market. “The addition of this Chinese facility is critical to Eriez’ mission of worldwide leadership in our industry,” added Tim Shuttleworth, Eriez’ Manager Director - International. “With operations located in ten countries on five continents, we can support customers anywhere on the globe.”

Eriez is recognized as the world authority in advanced technology for magnetic, vibratory and metal detection applications. The company’s magnetic lift and separation, metal detection, materials feeding, screening, conveying and controlling equipment have application in the process, metalworking, packaging, recycling, mining, aggregate and textile industries among others.
