Uses "Inflating Seal" Technology

New Powder Containment System for Dryers

Extract Technology, the powder containment people, have designed a new contained powder pack off solution for large double cone dryers.

Click hereThe system has three key sections. An IBC docking station using upward inflating seal technology to secure the IBC outlet. Below this a raise/ lower actuated seal secures onto the segmented ball valve of the blender. In operation this double seal device permits multiple IBC’s to be loaded in a dust tight manner.

After product drying/blending the powder may be packed off into drums using a mobile dust containment booth with a similar raise/lower seal onto the dryer outlet, with powder feed control valve and an inflatable packing head below.

The third component in the solution is an automated slide valve that moves over and seals off the segmented ball valve therefore providing a totally dust tight seal during dryer rotation.

In 1998 Extract Technology opened Extract Containment Systems Inc, to provide innovative containment solutions to the USA. Priding themselves on customer service, innovative design & effective management, both facilities offer a full range of containment systems:  Downflow Containment Booths, High Containment Barrier Isolators, Process Containment & Powder Handling Solutions, Pharmaceutical Facility Design Solutions and PBSC Pharmaceutical Components.

"A More Complete Product Package"

CTB Purchases Assets of Grain Dryer Manufacturer

MILFORD, Ind.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 1, 2002--CTB International Corp. today announced that it has acquired substantially all of the operating assets of Beard Industries, Inc., a grain dryer manufacturer based in Frankfort, Indiana, according to Victor A. Mancinelli, president and chief executive officer of CTB.

Click hereCTB, which is headquartered in Milford, Indiana, has been manufacturing and marketing grain and feed storage systems since 1957. It has also added a variety of grain handling and conditioning equipment to its line of products for the grain industry in recent years.

Beard Industries, which was founded in 1965, has annual sales of approximately $7.0 million and employs about 40 people. It has developed into one of the leading manufacturers of grain dryers, currently producing more than 45 different models of dryers for both farm and commercial use under the brand names SUPERB and MEYER. The company is also an industry leader in innovative electronic grain drying controls, which are sold under the QUANTUM name.

Commenting on the acquisition, Mancinelli said, "We are pleased to have taken another step forward in providing our grain industry customers with a more complete product package. We have previously acquired a line of enclosed belt conveyors and a bin sweep product, and we have recently developed a line of fans and heaters for use in conditioning stored grain. The addition of the Beard organization and its quality grain drying products to the CTB family should result in positive returns this year and in the future, as we work to continue broadening our product offering for this important market."

As a result of the acquisition, Beard Industries will be established as a division of CTB's Milford-based grain systems business unit. It is anticipated that the new division will continue to operate from Beard's present Frankfort, Indiana, location, with founder William J. Beard remaining active in the business and most of the former Beard employees being hired by CTB. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

CTB continues to focus on its strategy for growth, which includes extending its competitive advantage through accretive acquisitions and/or other beneficial business arrangements, as well as expanding its global physical presence, emerging as the best cost manufacturer in the industries it serves, emphasizing its product-driven focus, and enhancing its financial strength.

CTB International Corp. is a leading designer, manufacturer and marketer of systems for the poultry, hog, egg production, and grain industries. Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, CTB operates from facilities in the U.S.A., Europe and Latin America as well as through a worldwide distribution network.

Batch Accuracy of 0.1% or Better

New Micrabatch Gravimetric Blender

TSM Control Systems revealed their revolutionary Micrabatch blending system. Micradose dispense valves and air powered mixing chamber provide super-accurate blend ratios and batch homogeneity for guaranteed masterbatch savings and end-product consistency.

Click hereThe patented new concept is targeted at the molding industry.  Air accuracy blending at up to 130 lbs/hour, the Micrabtach uses only one moving part to blend and mix four components gravimetrically. It guarantees accurate material dosing even with the extremely low throughputs required by specialist molded end products.

TSM's Micradose TM Dispense Valves are capable of dispensing batches down to 0.035 ounces and can provide the most accurate and repeatable blend control on the market with batch to batch accuracy of 0.1% or better. Accuracy is not affected by vibration or shock when the Micrabatch is machine mounted.  TSM have also developed a unique pneumatic mixing chamber to provide the Micrabatch with effective mixing without the need for a mixing motor. The pneumatic mixing ensures batch homogeneity and color/ additive consistency in just a few seconds without any moving parts.

To facilitate rapid color changes the Micrabatch hoppers allow emptying and cleaning to be completed in less than a minute. The dispensing valve is incorporated into the hopper and the operator simply releases the air supply and two quick release connections; and the hopper can be replaced or cleaned as required.

The Micrabatch has an overall height (including reservoir hoppers) of under 26 inches. The blender base (footprint) of 4 inch x 4 inch also allows easy mounting on the smallest machine with minimum adaptation. Strength has not been sacrificed for size however, as the Micrabatch is ruggedly constructed of heavy gauge steel with an overload-protected load cell to withstand the most rigorous of operating conditions. An easy-to-service PLC control module contains the blender electronics. The 16 line x 40 character back-lit display is extremely user friendly and provides intuitive text prompts in a choice of 10 languages.

Up to 100 pre-programmed recipes are instantly accessible, enabling rapid "on-the-fly" order changes. The recipe select feature allows a new job to be loaded instantly, including blend percentages and job size. As the job progresses the operator can view "set" and "actual" blend recipes, material weights and lbs/ hr throughput and alarm incidents which are time and date stamped. The system also provides inventory reporting by component, total weight summaries and current order reports, via its display and printer port.

Web Browsing Option

TSM offer a dedicated web server and Ethernet interface as part of each blender. This option allows access to each system via the Intranet or Internet. Thus blenders can be monitored, analyzed and problems diagnosed from around the globe or from any PC connected to the factory Intranet.  It can be configured to send text alarm alerts to individual mobile phones, and allows WAP phone users to check details like throughput and alarm histories, diagnostic and calibration data, from any remote mobile phone.
