Materials Management And Distribution Services
------------------------------------------------------------
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- CSX Corporation
(NYSE: CSX) announced today the formation of TRANSFLO(SM)
Corporation, a business unit that will provide rail-centric
transloading, materials management and distribution services
across North America.
TRANSFLO Corporation will market a network of more than 160
locations across North America including 72 terminals operated
by its subsidiary, Bulk Intermodal Distribution Services, Inc.
(BIDS). TRANSFLO handles more than 400 unique products through
the only ISO 9002 certified network of terminals.
TRANSFLO service includes transloading products from one mode
of transportation to another -- primarily from rail to truck
-- for local delivery to non-rail customers. Services also
include transloading between rail and international containers.
TRANSFLO also provides a broad range of materials management
services focused on inventory management and replenishment,
material conditioning such as heating and sparging, and even
product enhancement such as blending and packaging. All
services are supported with value-added information services
to assist customers with total supply chain inventory visibility
and management.
"TRANSFLO creates value for non-rail served customers by providing
reliable access to the superior long-haul economics of rail
transportation," said Kyle Hancock, TRANSFLO managing director.
"It also allows customers to forward position inventory closer
to the market by taking advantage of terminals within the TRANSFLO
network, so they avoid investing in permanent storage or
warehousing."
Later this year, TRANSFLO will introduce On-Site Service Management,
an easy-to-use service combining management of loading, unloading
and rail transit for a single price. TRANSFLO employees will
manage rail shipments from a customer's premises, eliminating
demurrage, freight damage claims and even labor overtime, all
guaranteed with no additional charges.
TRANSFLO will also focus in 2001 on expanding the terminal
network, introducing new Internet-accessible information
technology as well as extending TRANSFLO services to even more
commodities, especially non-bulk commodities through cross-docking.
TRANSFLO, based in Jacksonville, is led by Hancock, a 15-year
veteran of CSX. He comes to TRANSFLO from CSX Transportation, Inc.
(CSXT) where he most recently was assistant vice president-minerals
sales and marketing. Prior to that, Hancock was the commercial
and operations director for the CSX joint venture NDX Intermodal,
based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Since joining CSX in 1985
from AT&T, Hancock has held numerous commercial positions within
CSX.

Intertape Polymer Announces Further Expansion in Mexico
------------------------------------------------------------
MONTREAL--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 2, 2001--Intertape Polymer
Group Inc. (NYSE:ITP)(TSE:ITP.) a leader in the packaging
industry, confirmed today that it finalized the acquisition
of the Professional Manufacturing Group (PMG) of Piedras Negras,
Mexico.
PMG has been an exclusive contract packager of Flexible
Intermediate Bulk Containers (FIBCs) for IPG since February
2000. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. The new
entity will operate as Intertape Polymer Group(TM) Mexico.
The new 65,000 square foot facility is located 150 miles
Southwest of San Antonio, Texas in an Industrial Park with
adjacent buildings that allow for additional growth.
Commenting on the announcement, Melbourne F. Yull, Intertape
Polymer Group Inc.'s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer said,
"The increase in Mexican operations along with the previously
announced closure of our Augusta, Georgia facility reflects
our continuing plan to increase FIBC production from lower
cost sources."
Mr. Yull also stated: "I feel that the transfer of this
production is the right solution for our customers and with
expanded use of our own woven coated fabrics in the manufacture
of FIBCs, IPG will improve its profitability during 2001."
Mr. Jim Bob Carpenter, President of IPG's Woven Products
Group added, "During the last twelve months IPG has focused
on continued operating improvements. PMG provided the
opportunity to acquire both manufacturing and management
expertise in a Mexican based sewn products operation.
These benefits along with a recent manufacturing partnership
in Matamoros, Mexico and our existing manufacturing
contractor in San Luis Potosi, Mexico will enable Intertape
Polymer Group to significantly improve its service level
on current products and remain on target to meet its
sales growth."
In addition, the Company launched two new FIBC products,
which should become the benchmark for superior methods
of dry bulk shipping. Pallet-Free(TM) a revolutionary
patent-pending FIBC features reusable fork-lift bottom
channels, eliminating the need for a pallet and providing
the customer with up to a 20% cost savings. New NOVA-STAT(TM)
is a patent-pending static-dissipative FIBC used in
applications where a high probability of an explosion
hazard is possible. Superior to any other product in the
FIBC market, Nova-Stat(TM) dissipates electrostatic charges
to a point that will not allow an explosive discharge.
Both of these products provide access to new higher margin
markets that require specialty high performance bags.
Intertape Polymer Group Inc. develops, manufactures and
markets a wide variety of specialized polyolefin plastic
and paper based packaging products and systems for
industrial and retail use. The Company was founded in
1981 and is based in Montreal, Quebec and Sarasota, Florida
with manufacturing facilities in twenty North American
and European locations.

Reliable Handling of Platinum Concentrate
------------------------------------------------------------
Anglo Platinum, the world’s largest platinum producer, has
installed two pneumatic Buhler Fluidstat conveying systems
for handling platinum concentrate. Buhler technology and
know-how have satisfied the customer’s requirements.
Two independent conveying lines were supplied. One moves the
concentrate from the flash dryer into a 2,500 ton storage
silo at a rate of 120 metric tons per hour and over a distance
of about 80 meters, 45 meters of which are vertical. A twin
vessel system is used with an air piping manifold to allow
continuous operation. Platinum concentrate, which has an
appearance similar to that of rapid hardening cement, is
both hygroscopic and abrasive.
Main requirement: reliability
The main requirement for this system was reliability, since
the flash dryer output is 65 tons per hour and only minimal
storage capacity is available upstream of the transfer system.
It had to be possible to switch off and restart the system
at any time - even during conveying - without causing the
conveying line to choke. This is achieved and guaranteed
by Buhler Fluidstat technology. The second line conveys
the material from the storage silo into four furnace feed
bins some 170 meters away. These bins have a holding
capacity of merely 18 tons each. They alternately feed
the concentrate into two furnaces at a rate of 60 tons
per hour each. Due to their minimum storage volume, two
twin vessel systems were supplied for this task. Both are
designed for continuous operation: While one vessel is
conveying, the other is being filled and pressurized. When
the first vessel runs empty, the second will immediately
start to convey again. The high operational reliability
of these conveyors is achieved not least thanks to the
sophisticated control system applied for the second
conveying installation. In addition, one vessel of each
twin system can operate on its own in case of an emergency
or during maintenance.
Material conveying expertise
Anglo Platinum awarded the contract to Buhler for a number
of reasons. Beside its outstanding technology, Buhler also
offers its customers access to its test facilities in Uzwil
and Braunschweig for conducting tests with their specific
materials. Customers benefit from the local experience,
backup and design capabilities of a global supplier. Other
advantages include project management and trouble-shooting
competence.
Buhler is the global technology partner for efficient
production systems, engineering solutions and the associated
services in the food processing industry, in chemical
process engineering and in die casting.

New Bulk Solids Characterization From One Compact Unit
------------------------------------------------------------
Summit, New Jersey - Hosokawa Micron Powder Systems announced
its new Powder Characterization Tester (PT-R).The Hosokawa
Micron PT-R was developed as an economical solution for testing
and measuring flow properties of bulk solids. All data can be
transmitted directly via the RS232 port to a personal computer.
It offers improved handling, efficiency, and accuracy in
performing eight measurements and two calculated tests in
bulk solid characterization.
The ten tests include: Angle of Repose, Angle of Fall, Angle
of Difference, Loose Bulk Density, Packed Bulk Density,
Compressibility, Cohesion, Uniformity, Angle of Spatula and
Dispersability. These tests all correlate to the Carr series
of Indices to determine product flow properties. In compliance
with JIS and ISO standards, the PT-R can measure material
angles automatically via a laser, and includes a built in
touch screen panel and washable measuring section.

Mr. Kristensen needs help with size fractionation:
I need to fractionate a pharmaceutical bulk substance . The
final size range should be in the range 10-20 microns, meaning
that smaller particles shall be removed as well as larger
particles. The final amount should be around 50 kg. At the
present I do not have information about the starting material,
but it should be possible to produce with a mean diameter
around 20 microns.
Thanks for your help,
