New Sponsor : Ivan Semenenko
Ltd.
Jacksonville
Beach, FL -- We are pleased to announce that Ivan Semenenko
Ltd. (ISL) has become a sponsor of Powder and Bulk Dot Com.
Ivan
Semenenko Ltd. (ISL) is an ISO 9001 registered firm
providing bulk material and powder handling solutions. ISL's
Cone Valve Technology provides clean, trouble-free,
discharge of bulk solids from IBC’s, FIBC’s, sacks and even
silos. Offering you accurate dosing control from process to
packaging.
Since
it's 1979 patent, the cone valve has been used in the
controlled flow of powders and particulates. While the
original system had some difficulties in meeting hygiene
standards, a simpler cone valve actuator was developed in
1998 culminating in ISL's new ‘Rolling Seal’ actuator.

Koch Dryers : Now with Enhanced
Software
Ispringen,
Germany -- The driving force behind the development of a
touch panel control system for the dryers produced by Werner
Koch Machinentechnik was a desire for simplification. A
6-color screen offers users a convenient overview of the
whole system. Functions like drying temperature, regulation
of the air volume, hold time monitoring, throughput
calculations and energy saving are shown clearly and it is
easy to adjust the settings.
The
most recent development is the integration of enhanced
software to record the dew point over 24 hours. Users now
have a window with a clear image of dew point readings for
the past 24 hours. Analyzing these readings shows the actual
load on the dryer and indicates problem-free operation. Koch
offers an optional Ethernet interface to link the system to
your company’s data network.
For
more than 30 years, the name Koch-Technik has been
synonymous with innovation, precision, modular flexibility
and cost-effectiveness in the mixing, dosing, conveying and
drying of plastic granulates and plastic powders. Use of our
equipment and systems in more than 4,000 plastic processing
companies around the world document the acceptance and high
efficiency of these systems in everyday production work.

The New Standard in Peristaltic
Pump Technology
Finland
-- Larox Flowsys, the preferred supplier of cutting-edge
flow control technology, announces the launch of its product
range expansion, the Larox LPP80 peristaltic pump.
“The
purpose of the LPP80 product development was to meet demands
for a high-volume pump designed for heavy industrial duties
as required in most mineral processing and metallurgical
applications. The process has resulted in a peristaltic pump
with exceptional performance and reliability,” says Matti
Riihimдki of Larox Flowsys Pump Products.
The
Larox LPP pumps incorporate a unique patented rolling
design, which is the first real change in the industry in
over 30 years. This advanced design eliminates friction,
maximizes hose life and lowers energy consumption. The
roller is mounted on a crankshaft creating eccentric
rotation during the 360 degree operating cycle. Compared to
conventional peristaltic pumps, the LPP pumps generate 100%
more flow per compression. This significant benefit cannot
be overstated.
Highly
robust and reliable, these pumps can handle abrasive,
corrosive, viscous or crystallizing media and slurries with
high solid content. The new LPP80 pump has a flow capacity
of up to 40 m3/h and a maximum operating pressure of 7.5
bar.
Larox
LPP peristaltic pumps are equipped with in-line pipe
connections; an optional hose leak detection unit and a
patented adjustment mechanism that senses hose wear when
compression is readjusted. This helps to maximize hose
lifetime and minimize the risk of over-compression. The
compression adjustment is based on measuring the compression
force making readjustment easy.
About
Larox Flowsys Oy
Headquartered in Lappeenranta, Finland, Larox Flowsys Oy is
the preferred supplier of cutting-edge flow control
technology. Our product range includes pinch valves and
peristaltic pumps. We focus on abrasive, corrosive and other
demanding shut-off, control and pumping applications serving
a wide range of process industries worldwide.

Outokumpu to Deliver World's Largest Flotation Cell
Finland
-- Outokumpu Technology has agreed the delivery of three
TankCell®-300 flotation cells to OceanaGold's Macraes
operation in New Zealand. TankCell®-300, with an active
capacity of over 300m3, is the largest mechanical
flotation cell in the world. The Macraes delivery will
be the first such installation and represents a
significant development for flotation technology in
general.
Outokumpu Technology will
provide the complete flotation circuit at Macraes and is
responsible for the design, supply, installation and
commissioning of the three cells, with completion
scheduled for mid 2007.
OceanaGold's Macraes mine is
New Zealand's largest producer of gold, with the annual
capacity to process 6 million tonnes. A single train
configuration of 1/1/1 TankCell®-300s, combined with two
existing TankCell®-150s, will replace the site's
original three trains of column flotation, representing
a significant reduction not only in footprint, but also
in operational costs such as maintenance and spare
parts. The larger TankCell® design also offers optimized
froth stability for low-grade ores, as well as ongoing
savings from lower air and power consumption.
The TankCell®-300 units at
Macraes will also feature the latest field-proven and
patented FloatForce(TM)mixing technologies developed by
Outokumpu Technology.
Outokumpu Technology is
renowned for the performance, innovation and efficiency
of its flotation technology and this contract further
underlines its position as the global leader in
flotation. In today's buoyant concentrates and metals
marketplace, there is an ever-growing need for
improvements such as increased throughput in low-grade
ores, enhanced metal recoveries and operational
efficiencies, and the introduction of a 300m3 cell is a
long-anticipated response to this market need.
In the past ten years alone,
Outokumpu Technology has installed a total of more than
1600 TankCell® units globally including the world's
largest single train of flotation cells by volume, 10 x
200m3, installed in 2006 in Australia.

Mr. Clementi wants to find flow
measurement funnels:
Can anyone help me find a
source for flow measurement funnels for solids? I'm thinking
of a set of glass funnels with progressively larger necks
that are used to measure the flowability of a powder.
A quantity of the powder was
placed in a #6 funnel and it would either flow out or
bridge. If it bridged it would be tried with the next larger
funnel until it did not bridge. These funnels looked like
they were made of Pyrex.
Does anyone know a source for
buying these sets of funnels? Fisher, C-P, others don't seem
to have them.

Mr. van Gils needs a micro
feeder for his lab:
I am a student Mechanical
Engineering in the Netherlands. I have read almost every Ask
Joe article. But now I have a question.
For a project I have to
design an apparatus that doses small quantities of powder
with a accuracy of +/- 0.1 micrograms. With this application
should I also consider the effect of ratholing, mass flow
and arching?
We don't have equipment at
hand to define things as particle size and shear strength.
Is it possible to build test equipment ourselves? Does
anybody have information about it?
