Excellent for Foods and Pharmaceuticals

AccuRate's New 3-A/USDA Accepted Sanitary Feeder

SCHENCK AccuRate's 3-A/USDA Dairy Accepted Mechatron Feeder was designed specifically for use in the food, dairy, and pharmaceutical industries where equipment and processes must meet 3-A Dairy sanitary levels or equivalent.

Click hereUsing the award-winning Mechatron Feeder as the basis for the new offering, welds, radii, seals, surface finishes, gaskets and all contact and non-contact materials were reviewed and specified as directed by USDA inspectors. Volumetric and gravimetric feeders compliant with 3-A sanitary standards resulted. Available product features include AC and DC drive packages, an FDA / USDA accepted "Coni-Flex" flexible conical feed-hopper (patent pending), helix configurations for feed rates from 0.30 to 330 cubic feet (8.5 to 9,300 liters) per hour and an unmatched ability to disassemble, clean, reconfigure, and service from the non-process side of the feeder.

Additional benefits and features of the feeder include:

  • Smooth (32 micro-inch or better) and crevice-free product contact surfaces, which helps prevent the formation of bacteria
  • A domed hopper cover and open bottom frame speeds and optimizes drainage during and after wash-down cycles
  • The use of 304 and 316 stainless steel and 3-A sanitary polymers makes cleaning quicker and easier
  • Spun (weld-free) conical 316 stainless steel extension hoppers
  • "Mechatronic" and remotely mounted NEMA 4 & NEMA 4X volumetric and gravimetric control packages

In addition to the 3-A/USDA accepted Mechatron, AccuRate also offers industrial grade versions of the Mechatron in a low range, mid range, and high range model with feed rates covering a range of 0.002 to 1,137 cubic feet (.58 to 32,160 liters) per hour.

AccuRate, a Unit of Schenck AccuRate, is a global supplier of bulk solids metering equipment and systems.

Spray Wash Ports

Pneumatic System Handles Cross-Contamination Problem

Kalamazoo, MI -- A pharmaceutical company came to Hapman for assistance in providing them with a vacuum conveyor system to meet their specific requirements.

Click hereA conveyor was needed to take their finished product from a dryer and discharge it into a mobile bulk-bag filling system, which was scale mounted for precision metering and batching. The key to the system was the need for an efficient cleaning system which totally eliminated any possibility of cross-contamination.

To accomplish this, Hapman designed its MiniVac with individually controlled spray wash ports placed throughout the interior of conveyor. This "self-contained" design allowed the customer the ability to reliably clean and sanitize the conveyors interior without the need for timely external procedures. Further time saving enhancements included a side access door for quick filter cartridge change outs, and a clean-in-place rotary valve which allowed disassembly, cleaning and reassembly within minutes.

The entire sanitary finish assembly is 304 Stainless Steel with sealed motors and controls rated for explosive atmosphere and wash down applications. This is just another example of Hapman's "Ideas that move" working closely with the customer to provide exactly what is required to meet their specific needs.

Hapman Minivac pneumatic conveyors feature a fully self-contained filter cartridge and a highly efficient regenerative blower design.

Mr. Mitchell is looking for a special feeder:

Recently, I saw a reference for a powder feeder/delivery system with a slot opening on the feeder bottom which could deposited a uniform thickness/weight of powder coating across the width of a moving web. I have been unable to locate the information again. I would appreciate someone directing me to this equipment.

Mr. Stead needs help with a sodium bicarbonate hopper:

As part of an abatement plant process we currently use sodium bicarbonate powder to scrub out SO2/SO3 from a hot gas stream. We are having considerable problems with getting the powder to flow from the storage hopper/silo to the point of use. The main problem is with the material "bridging" in the hopper (forming voids) and interrupting the flow on a regular basis.

We use a fine grade of powder containing an anti-caking agent (magnesium stearate). The hopper has vibratory units to help prevent blockages, and mechanical hammer-type attachments. Powder is screw-fed from the base of the hopper.

Any comments on how we might improve the reliability of feeding this material from the hopper?
