Joy Global Acquires Continental Global

MILWAUKEE, WI -- Joy Global Inc., a worldwide leader in high-productivity mining solutions, reported today that it has entered into a definitive agreement with NES Group, Inc. to acquire Continental Global Inc., a world-wide leader in conveyor systems for bulk material handling in mining and other industrial applications.

Continental designs, manufactures, installs and services highly engineered conveyor solutions for customers on six continents and has manufacturing facilities in the United States, United Kingdom, South Africa and Australia. Continental's 2007 sales of conveyor equipment are expected to be approximately $340 million. The purchase price will be $270 million to be funded through available liquidity sources pending completion of permanent financing.

The transaction is structured as a purchase from NES Group of the stock of NES Investment, Co., the parent holding company of Continental, and is expected to be accretive to earnings in the first full fiscal year following the acquisition. All businesses of NES unrelated to conveyor equipment, including the company's axle products business, are being retained by NES Group.

Completion of the transaction is subject to the receipt of necessary regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions and is expected to occur during the first calendar quarter of 2008.

"Continental Global expands the range of products and services we can deliver to our customers, and is consistent with our strategy of adding related and highly synergistic product lines," stated Mike Sutherlin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Joy Global.

Sutherlin continues, "Continental's conveyor systems fit closely with our surface and underground businesses, allowing us to leverage our strong global presence in both segments. Integrating conveyor systems into our Life Cycle Management programs will extend the impact of these programs to deliver the highest reliability in equipment and systems that are mission critical to our customers. This enhances the efficiency of our existing mine site operations, and is even more important as our customers look to green field projects for future expansion. We are very pleased to welcome the Continental family to Joy Global."

Joy Global is a world-wide leader in manufacturing, distributing and servicing equipment for surface mining through P&H Mining Equipment and underground mining through Joy Mining Machinery.

Spiroflow to exhibit at Process Technology Expo South

CHARLOTTE, NC -- Spiroflow Systems, Inc. will be showing and demonstrating a working Bulk bag discharger, flexible screw conveyor and aero-mechanical conveyor in what the company calls its ‘One Man Band’ exhibit at the Process Technology Expo South at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, North Carolina on March 19-20, 2008, Booth 605.

In the working exhibit, Spiroflow will show how the flexible screw conveyor collects the material, delivers it to a round-the-corner aero-mechanical conveyor and returns it back in to the top of the bulk bag discharger.

At the show, Spiroflow will showcase its complete line of bulk bag dischargers, bulk bag fillers, flexible screw conveyors, aero-mechanical conveyors and vacuum conveying equipment. Information on Spiroflow’s comprehensive range of Conveying and Big Bag Handling Equipment will be available.

Flexible screw, aero-mechanical and vacuum conveyors available from Spiroflow typically offer the lowest cost, simplest, most hygienic and easiest to clean means of conveying products from free flowing salt to sticky lumps of broken chocolate, chemicals or minerals.

About Spiroflow

Spiroflow Systems specializes in mechanical and pneumatic conveying and the filling and discharging of dry bulk solids from bulk bags. The company offers nine discharger types ranging from simple bag support frames to sophisticated models offering “total containment”. Kason : New Screener-Fluid Bed Dryer System

MILLBURN, NJ -- A new self-contained Circular Vibratory Screener-Fluid Bed Dryer System from Kason Corporation removes oversize and undersize material, and dries on-size material.

The pre-packaged system scalps and de-dusts 2500 to 3000 lbs (1134 to 1361 kg) of bulk material per hour using a double-deck, 30 in. (762 mm) diameter circular vibratory screener, and then dries the material in a 40 in. (1016 mm) diameter circular vibratory fluid bed processing system.

The screener is equipped with an imbalanced-weight gyratory motor that vibrates the screening chamber which is suspended on springs. Oversize particles travel in controlled spiral pathways from the center of the upper screen to a spout at the screen's periphery where they are discharged for reprocessing.

On-size particles falling onto the lower screen travel in controlled spiral pathways to an extended spout at the screen's periphery that leads to the fluid bed drier. Undersize material passes through the lower screen onto an integral metal chute and through a third spout for reprocessing.

The circular fluid bed dryer is reportedly half the size and weight of a rectangular fluid bed dryer of equivalent capacity and allows consolidation of all primary system components. Inherent strength of the circular processor eliminates the need for heavy-gauge walls and cross braces otherwise required to withstand continuous vibration, allowing vibratory motors to be downsized.

The circular unit also requires only one air inlet and outlet and has fewer weld seams, reducing overall size and construction cost, especially when finished to 3-A, FDA, and BISSC sanitary standards. Cleaning time is cut by more than 50 percent due to the reduction in interior seams and accessibility afforded by a quick-disconnect housing.

The company also manufactures other types and sizes of circular vibratory screeners and fluid bed processors, as well as centrifugal screeners for scalping and dewatering applications.

Mr. Crespo wants to dry bread for animal food:

I am designing an installation (4 t/h) to recover bread (tin bread) in order to make a powder for animal food.  I want to reduce its size to 3-30mm, dry it and then send it to a mill to get a final powder.

I am doubting about using a trommel dryer or a flash (pneumatic) dryer.  Both purchasing prices and energy costs are important, since we are both the designers and the end users.  (to post reply, click here)
