Cleveland Vibrator Purchases HK Technologies

Cleveland, OH -- With the acquisition of HK Technologies, Inc., of Salem, Ohio, Cleveland Vibrator expands its line of equipment to include fine powder screening.

HK Technologies is a manufacturer of vibratory and ultrasonic screening equipment for laboratory, pilot and production applications. Their wide range of unique equipment design and expertise in fine mesh screening allows for solutions for virtually all screening requirement. Applications for these screeners in ceramics, food, pharmaceuticals, powder metals, powder paints, diamond powders, ceramic powders and solder powders.

HK screeners come in a variety of sizes with screen diameters ranging from 8 to 36 inches, one deck to multiple decks. With the addition of ultrasonics, HK can build a screening vibratory system that significantly reduces or eliminates screen blinding in many powder applications. Unlike other ultrasonic deblinding systems, the HK Ultrasonic Transformer transmits the ultrasonic vibration through the product hopper to the tensioned screen surface. This unique transducer coupling allows for 100% utilization of the screen surface thus allowing for maximum product throughput and eliminating screen tearing. Since the transducer is not directly attached to the screen surface, screens last longer.

Cleveland Vibrator’s latest innovation, the HyBrute, is a blending of HK’s ultrasonics and rotary electric drives. The result is a high-capacity, fine powdered-materials screener. The HyBrute Screener incorporates the low maintenance, high volume material flow rates of a “brute force” vibratory feeder and the high precision characteristics of an ultrasonic screener. The resulting “hybrid” screener brings together the best of both types of vibratory units: low maintenance, large capacity, and precision screening for fine materials.

HK also offers a conversion screener which converts existing screeners allowing for lower costs over purchasing a new unit. It can be adapted to accept ultrasonics in minutes to screen down to 20 micron. It features Re-screenable frames furthering lower cost of maintenance.

For more information regarding any of Cleveland Vibrator or HK Technologies products, call our sales department at 800-221-3298 or visit  http://www.clevelandvibrator.com/

Convey-N-Weigh Combines Conveying & Batching

Centerville, MN -- Convey-N-Weigh combines vacuum conveying and accurate batching of bulk solids. Powder can now be sourced without any metering, conveyed, precisely weighed and discharged to your process with a single CNW module. Accuracy is achieved through unit fill control, powder densification and precision loss-in-weight discharging. Modules can be grouped to build a complete Conveying N Weighing and very accurate batch system. Several sizes are available for increasing transfer and batch rates.

Each CNW module consists of a vacuum filter receiver with continuous pulse jet filter clean system, live bin discharger, volumetric screw feeder and three-point scale system. Modules are designed for tool free quick take apart. Entire module can be quickly disassembled for cleaning. All stainless steel construction along with NEMA 4 electrical enclosures allow for safe wash down. Modules can be set up in any combination of up to six units serving a single discharge. Modules run independent of one another in a loss-in-weight mode allowing for quick batch make up. Plug in electrical connections allow for quick field install and run.

Control is managed through a touch screen HMI providing operator with a wide range of operation for each module. Scale control is intuitive through an HMI. Modules are completely pre-wired and ready for operation.

Powder can be sourced from a wand or any other powder delivery mechanism. Operator influence on powder sourcing will not affect CNW operation or accuracy. A wide range of powder bulk density and characteristics are managed by controlled filling of module and powder densification through live bin discharger. Modules are can be used for food chemical or plastics. They are also suitable for USDA Dairy acceptance.

Ms. Colleoni wants help with silo segregation problem:

We plan to extend our storage capacity and to invest in a new silo.

With the present silo we have segregation problems, so we are looking to find solutions and solve this problem with the new silo. Our material is a precooked corn flour with a wide particle size distribution between 100 micrometer up to 1000 micrometer and quite cohesive.

The silo supplier proposes a standard 150 m3 silo for flours, of about 20 m of height, 3 m in diameter, 1m80 the diameter of the vibrating bottom and a cone angle of 68°.

Do you think it would be necessary to conduct a powder study, measure the flow material properties and make calculations for a proper silo design?  What kind of study would be necessary to find a solution for our segregation problem? What are our options? (to post reply, click here)

Thank you,
Mirela Colleoni

Mr. Battino needs with potato pellets flowing:

I'm having flow issues with a "pellet" used in one of our processes. Its really a 1.5" diameter (very thin) round wafer made of potato solids. They are transported to my facility in 800 lb totes. I have to dump them from the tote directly into a hopper at a controlled rate with little or no breakage.

The problems are: 1. They interlock and don't flow. 2. They slide out in large chunks. 3. They bridge very easily 4. There is significant breakage from the weight and force of the clumps falling out of the tote.

I'm looking for a known/proven solution somewhere in industry.
