From Preforming to Recycling

Concentrated Know-How of the Polyester Industry

The Open House organized by the global Buhler Technology Group in December 2001 was a full success: Specialists from the entire polyester industry met at the Group headquarters in Uzwil, Switzerland, for a lively exchange of ideas. All process operations involved in the polyester industry were discussed: from melting, crystallization, drying, preforming of blanks, and bottle production to recycling by reclaiming (washing, sorting and shredding), melting, pelletizing and post-condensation.

It became apparent in the course of the event that a clearer organization of the interfaces between the individual process operations would raise overall efficiency and produce a smoother total process. The concentration of know-how presented at the event helped suppliers better understand customers’ needs and thereby ensure optimal and consistent quality. The experts attending the Open House, representing all process stages, contributed specialist knowledge from various renowned companies such as Inventa-Fischer, Netstal, Schmalbach-Lubeca, Resilux, Sorema, PTI and EPFL (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne).

Live demonstration at Buhler

In a number of live demonstrations, Buhler presented its process expertise in the fields of solid-state polycondensation (SSP) and economic PET recycling – an innovation from the Buhler Group. The guests were also offered insight into the extruder and analytical laboratories. An impressive example of an optimal plant layout was presented in the thermal processes lab. It clearly proved that Buhler, the leading technology partner, invests heavily in the future in order to help shape coming trends together with its partners.
