Snyder Acquires Asset Tank Div.
from Clawson
Lincoln,
NE -- Snyder Industries, a leading manufacturer of
polyethylene tanks and containers for the storage,
transportation and processing of bulk materials, has
acquired the Asset Tank divisions of Clawson Container
Company.
The
Asset Tank divisions include the manufacturing plants to
produce both rotationally molded and fabricated steel
intermediate bulk containers (IBC's), as well as related
rental tank fleets utilized to support similar end markets.
Clawson Container Company will retain their blow molded IBC
manufacturing plants and related business units, which
includes IBC North America and Clean Tide Container.
Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBC's) are portable bulk
transportation containers used to handle a variety of
liquid, solid and dry materials in a broad range of markets,
including agricultural, water treatment, chemical
distribution, paints, food and beverage. Headquartered in
Lincoln, Nebraska, Snyder Industries is currently the
world’s largest manufacturer of rotationally molded
polyethylene IBC's, and is credited with some of the
market’s leading product innovations.
The
Clawson acquisition will expand Snyder’s IBC product
offering to include both stainless and carbon steel IBC
designs, which will allow the company access to many new
markets not presently serviced by their polyethylene product
line due to some specific performance limitations in the
areas of chemical compatibility, temperature exposure,
sterilization, as well as some government regulatory
restrictions.
Thomas
O’Connell, President and CEO of Snyder Industries, stated,
“This acquisition is a good fit with our existing product
lines and strategic focus, and provides an entry into
traditional steel markets, which will substantially expand
our company’s growth opportunities in the greater material
handling and storage markets.”
Snyder
Industries is a privately owned company with majority
interest being held by Cortec Group Fund III, a New York
based private equity firm, which invests in middle market
manufacturing, distribution, and service businesses.

"Loosen Up" : New Hydraulic Bulk Bag
Conditioner
BETHLEHEM,
PA -- A new Hydraulic Bulk Bag Conditioner from Flexicon
Corporation loosens bulk solid material that has solidified
during storage and shipment, enabling bulk bag unloaders to
discharge it through bag spouts, according to David Boger,
sales manager.
The
conditioner features two hydraulic rams with
specially-contoured end plates to press opposing sides of
bulk bags. An optional hydraulically-actuated,
variable-height turntable allows in-frame bag rotation and
conditioning of bulk bags at varying heights.
The
number and pressure of hydraulic ram actuations, the height
of the turntable, and the number of 90-degree rotations are
user adjustable. The system controller and hydraulic pump
can be mounted on the exterior of the safety cage or
remotely. The conditioner is fully enclosed on all four
sides for operator safety and includes full-height doors
that are interlocked to disallow operation of the system
when the doors are open.
“The
new conditioner is intended for bulk bags containing
hygroscopic chemicals, certain types of spice blends,
heat-sensitive products, and other materials prone to
solidifying to the point at which pneumatically-actuated
flow promotion accessories integral to bulk bag dischargers
are inefficient or completely ineffective,” says Boger.
Available as a stand alone unit or integral component of a
bulk bag discharger, the unit measures 87” (2210 mm) H X
133” (3378 mm) W X 78” (1981 mm) D, accommodates bulk bags
of all popular sizes, and requires only an electrical power
connection for operation.
The
company also manufactures bulk bag dischargers, bulk bag
fillers, flexible screw conveyors, pneumatic conveying
systems, manual dumping stations, drum dumpers, weigh
batching systems, and automated plant-wide systems
integrated with new or existing process equipment.

Munson Hammer Mill Reduces Fibrous Materials
UTICA,
NY - A new Hammer Mill Model 141 from Munson Machinery
reduces friable and fibrous materials into uniform
particle sizes ranging from 20 to 300 mesh.
Centrifugal force causes
pivoting hammers to stand at 90° to the rotating shaft,
throwing material against breaker plate ridges in the
feed section, and then against perforated bed screens
through which sized material exits.
The shaft, integral hammer
discs, disc pins and hammers are driven by a 75 hp (56
kw) motor at 1800 to 4000 RPM, achieving hammer tip
speeds of 8,700 to 19,500 ft/min (2,650 to 5,950 m/min)
even under heavy loads, reducing a broad variety of
solid material into particles at high rates.
The mill can pulverize wood
scraps, process grain, break-down impact resistant
housings, destroy ammunition shells, pulverize
newspaper, separate rubber from cord fiber, and reduce
the size of a variety of other chemical, plastic, rubber
and agricultural products.
Particle size is determined
by the size of the screen perforations. In addition to a
lower 180° cylinder screen, the Munson unit features an
extra 90° screen located in the hinged section of top
case, increasing screen area by 50% to a total of 270°,
utilizing the entire area of the case.
The lower screen is secured
by a quick release mechanism, providing a dust-tight fit
and allowing rapid screen changes. Hammer discs, which
are spaced evenly along the alloy steel shaft, retain
the hardened steel hammer pins. All corners of the
hammers are stepped, allowing four edges to be utilized.
A removable ring allows rapid pin changes.
The steel fabricated, 3/4 in
(19 mm) thick mill case provides the requisite
stiffness, alignment and durability to withstand the
extreme impact and high loads associated with the most
demanding applications. The feed intake welded to the
upper portion of the case is also bolted to the lower
portion, resulting in a high-integrity connection
between the feeding or loading hopper and the mill
intake.
Dust-tight and watertight,
the unit is configured with a hinged top section and
gasketed, single-latch door providing rapid access for
cleaning and maintenance.

Mr. Tatum needs with railcar
unloading facility:
I am currently involved in
the design phase of a rail car unloading facility for rice.
We want to unload cars sideways (90° to train track) by
putting an opening/catch hopper under all three openings in
the hopper car. The three openings will convey or flow the
product onto a common belt conveyor that will transport
material parallel to train tracks.
We are having a hard time
finding similar applications and are rapidly approaching the
treacherous "re-inventing the wheel" area. Also, our
railroad track construction vendor says we are crazy. Can
anybody help?

Mr. Walker needs help with
filling tubes with lead powder:
My company fills (1 to 2 ft)
long by 5/16 inch square tubular products with lead powder,
and we need a machine/process that can fill hundreds of
these tubes at the same time as they are presented in a
fixture.
I picture a machine design
similar to one that fills pixie sticks in the food industry.
Does anybody have an application solution provider they
might recommend?
