Simple - Not Stupid
------------------------------------------------------------

Control in the production process means profit ---use less
stuff to make more stuff. It's as simple as that. Regulate
exactly what goes into the process, minimize waste and control
quality to the tightest margins; and you WILL make more money.

Worldwide, process standards are rising, and, in for example
a plastics production line, any dumb batch blender can give
you some elements of this control. However "dumb" blenders
have a basic function - just keep on doing what they were told
to do, no matter what else is happening in the production line.

TSM Control Systems are process control consultants and equipment
manufacturers specializing in the plastic production industries.
They have long been aware of the issues arising from such
localized control and, having optimized their gravimetric batch
blending system to equal or surpass the function and benefits
their competitors offer - they then added a brain.

Their latest batch blender, The TSM Minibatch, was launched in
North America at Chicago's NPE. It is designed for on-line
control and blending in the blown film, cast film, sheet, blow
moulding, coating, compounding, profile and cable industries
- and comes with optional very low cost extrusion control

An easy-to-operate tailor-made PLC forms the bulk of the TSM
Minibatch "brain". Up to 100 pre-programmed recipes are instantly
accessible, containing everything needed to cut out changeover
times and change orders "on-the-fly. With the press of a button
a new job can be loaded, including details on blend percentages,
required thickness, throughputs or job sizes and queued job
orders to be executed. To easily access the blender "brain"
from a supervisory computer, a serial output is available,
enabling an operator to monitor and change the production
process from anywhere - from the next floor to the manager's
bedroom - via PC/ modem. This also allows fault diagnosis and
repair from anywhere in the world - so brain surgery can be
carried out on-line from the TSM offices.

The brain is also transplantable - if for example hardware
damage occurs and software surgery is not the answer. TSM
have developed a tiny "personality module"* which stores all
the customized data relevant to the production process the
operator is involved in. A spare brain can be easily slotted
in to replace the existing PLC, with no cabling or re-wiring
required, and the "personality module" inserted, carrying all
the data required to instantaneously recommence production.

As the job progresses "desired" and "actual" blend mixes,
throughput or weight per length can all be viewed, as well
a full range of time and dated stamped status and inventory
reports. Naturally these can all be readily printed out.

The TSM Minibatch Blender may look simple, but it is not stupid.

ACD Increases Food-Grade Liquid Storage Capacity
------------------------------------------------------------

BURLINGTON, NJ - July 10, 2000 - American Custom Drying Company
(ACD) has expanded its liquid storage capacity to 520,000
gallons with the addition of a 20,000-gallon food grade, AAA
finish, agitated, cooled or heated storage silo. Svend Keis
Hansen, Vice President of the Product Development Division,
advised that the new silo was necessary "to meet the increasing
demand for spray drying food-type products."

In addition, Hansen advised that ACD just completed "the
installation of a 100 HP, 1750 GPH, 5000 PSI high-pressure
pump or homogenizer to cope with increased spray dryer capacity
demands." Hansen also advised that ACD has installed "a
cooling/heating air conditioning system for the 6000 pounds/per
hour product conveying system." This system, according to
Hansen, "can service both large production spray dryers at
ACD." Hansen said this upgrade enables ACD to "cool down
the products before bagging off" as well as handle
hygroscopic products.

ACD is a privately-owned company with more than 30 years
experience providing custom spray-drying services for
Fortune 500 companies in the chemical and food industries.
ACD is KEMA ISO 9002 Certified for the Production of Spray
Dried Products for the Chemical Industry and has kosher
certification for food products. The company is based in
Burlington, New Jersey.

Exhibition Brings Pharmaceutical Channel Together

INTERPHEX California Reflects Dynamic Growth In Nutritional,
Biotech and Pharmaceutical Market Segments

NORWALK, CT - When INTERPHEX California (formerly known as
INTERPHEXWest) arrives at Long Beach Convention Center, Long
Beach, CA, September 26-27, 2000, the event’s name-change will
reflect its new positioning, as well as a host of new features
to serve the Western nutritional, biotech and pharmaceutical
industries.

Show producer and manager- Reed Exhibition Companies (REC),
intends to expand the scope and appeal of INTERPHEX California
by adding nutraceuticals, biotechnology, contract services,
ingredients, and laboratory equipment and analytical
instrumentation to the Western specialty event.

"Exhibitors and attendees have told us that they would like
an event that appeals across multiple market segments," states
Kevin Richards, Industry Vice President, REC. "Based on
their feedback, we believe that we need to create a forum
where west-coast professionals can network, share best
practices and walk away with new ideas-- while having a
little fun."

"We are repositioning INTERPHEX California to serve the
Western nutritional, biotech, and Pharmaceutical industries.
"Industry support has been incredible for this unique and
customized event. We are currently partnering up with leading
industry publications and trade associations, as well as
tapping into new resources to identify new event participants
to create an all-star event," explains Richards.

INTERPHEX California will bring together decision-makers
from all sectors of the nutritional, biotech and pharmaceutical
industries in recognition of the way the industry has evolved.
"We intend to deliver more decision makers and purchase
influencers. These include professionals involved in research
and development; nutritional and vitamin supplements;
functional foods; pharmaceutical processing; manufacturing
and packaging. We also intend to deliver buying teams comprised
of multiple job-titles so that buyer companies can compare
products and make better and faster purchase decisions. This
will lead to faster time-to-market decisions," adds Richards.

To complement the trade-show, with its expected 175 exhibitors,
a comprehensive 2-day seminar/ workshop program will address
the challenges and trends of nutraceuticals, biopharmaceutical
/biotechnology, natural supplements/vitamins, contract services,
natural medicine, and provide new ideas that nutraceutical and
pharmaceutical professionals can use immediately to improve
their profitability.

"REC will combine its vast resources with those of ISPE,
the show’s official sponsor to offer technology solutions
and educational training for those engaged in discovery,
manufacture and packaging pharmaceuticals," adds Richards.
Tracks include Processing & Packaging, Ingredients, Contract
Services, Biotechnology, and Laboratory Equipment & Analytical
Instrumentation as well as Nutraceuticals and an ISPE
sponsored FDA SUPAC seminar. In addition, there will also
be an in-depth seminar on Pharmaceutical Water Systems,
covering the fundamental principles and concepts of USP
Purified Water System and Water for Injection, developed
by the California chapters of ISPE.

There are a wealth of new initiatives planned for 2000. A
sampling includes: Expanded coverage of Nutraceuticals
Ingredients and Biotech: Clearly, industry leading companies
have broadened their mix of products in reaction to consumer
demand. INTERPHEX California will reflect these changes.

A Networking Program with Universities & Technology
Transfer: Focusing on the future, INTERPHEX California
will partner with major learning centers focused on life
and health sciences, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.

Expanded E-Initiatives. Exhibitors will find new ways to
reach their intended markets and be able to interact with
show management through the introduction of e-initiatives.
REC will enhance INTERPHEX California through the use of
electronic floor plans, on-line appointment setting, and
exhibitor listings on the web site:

Company Integrates New Mass Flow Technology into Bulk Material Feeder
------------------------------------------------------------

CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio, July 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Stock Equipment
Company has completed an exclusive agreement with Eastern
Instruments, Inc., located in Wilmington, NC to incorporate
their Centriflow(TM) Mass Flow Meter into bulk materials
feeders.

This new technology meters bulk materials with high accuracy
measurement once considered unobtainable in many feeding
applications.

The technology also allows Stock Equipment Company to retrofit
thousands of its installed volumetric feeders with high accuracy
weighing capabilities. Many of Stock Equipment's utility-based
customers are challenged by deregulation to improve plant
efficiencies and this technology combination offers the
opportunity to improve delivery systems.

Chuck Grant, President, Stock Equipment Company said, "This new
agreement further solidifies our focus into developing
technologies for bulk material applications. We believe
this technology will strengthen our current feeder offerings
and open new opportunities into applications where limitations
have existed in bulk material metering."

Stock Equipment Company located in Chagrin Falls, Ohio
is the market leader in the design and manufacturing of
coal feeder systems with installations worldwide. SPX
Corporation is a global provider of industrial products
and services, technical products and systems, service
solutions, and vehicle components. The Internet address

Mr. Monsen needs help determining the dry bulk storage market size:

Hello! I am an MBA student at the University of Colorado at
Boulder and I am trying to estimate the size of the global
dry bulk storage market. I would like to determine the number
and distribution of larger bins and tanks around the world.
Primarily I am interested in large grain silos (>2,500 tons or
100,000 bushels). Of course, information on other dry bulk
materials, such as flour, sugar, cement and plastic pellets,
would also be of interest.

I am also interested in general information about dry bulk
inventory management and quality control, so if you have any
experience here I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks!
