Shick Tube-Veyor to Establish
Liquid Ingredient Handling Division
------------------------------------------------------------
Shick Tube-Veyor Corporation announces it has created a new
division which will offer proprietary liquid ingredient
handling products and systems to the food industry.
According to Rob Merrill, Vice President Sales & Marketing,
in addition to providing applications associated with
Shick's current ingredient handling systems, such as oils,
shortenings and sweeteners, the company is also offering
stand-alone systems to cover the full range of liquid
ingredient applications within the food industry.

Interesting New Industry Web Sites:
------------------------------------------------------------
Autocon Web Site
http://www.mother.com/acp/
Autocon is a company that makes a vertical, continuous mixer-
blender. I really like this web site! It is a good example
of how you can use the web to teach and explain in detail how
a device works along with its benefits. A classic
demonstration-type sales approach, on the web!
They use a character "Benny Batch", a caveman who can't
seem to stop mixing his ingredients in batches. Oh my! How
will Benny ever be able to do more! As you follow the story,
you find out that the Autocon Continuous Mixer can do the job
without batch-to-batch mixing.
The story is clever and is broken up into a series of pages
that the reader clicks through to follow the plight of our man,
Benny.
I wish more industrial web sites were this much fun to learn
about products and applications. Our belief here at Powder
and Bulk Dot Com is that any information that you have that
is "public" information should be published on your web site!
This includes text from all brochures, specifications, charts,
technical papers, newsletters, etc. Design it so that interested
parties can "drill down" to the level of information they want.
Think about how you tell a client about what you do and the
questions they ask of you.....that's what should be on your
web site...and more!
There are two things about the Autocon web site that I would
change. One is that on their home page they have two animated
"Benny Batch", when one would do! Secondly, no where on the
site is there a mailing address to the company. They do include
a phone, fax and email, but where the heck are they located?
They might be down the street, but who would know!
You can visit Autocon's web site at:

Forberg AS Develops Mixer/Dryer
Combination for Sterilizing of Feed
------------------------------------------------------------
After extensive research work Forberg AS has succeeded in
developing a system which both can maintain high capacity
and the feeds quality through a continuous sterilizing system.
There has been a growing need for sterilizing, especially since
the antibiotics are under way to be banned from feed
production. The Forberg's sterilizing system is based upon
well proven components like the Forberg mixer and the
Forberg drying system.
The system has been extremely well received and has generated
a lot of interest especially within animal feed industry.
The system operate cost effective and requires a minimum
of space compared to traditional animal feed sterilizing
equipment/plants.

Karl Cassini in Framingham, Mass writes:
"I am interested in sourcing some finely powdered Hydrogel
polymer(poly-HEMA) for use in some research that we are
conducting.
Would you know of somewhere that I could obtain this?
The particle size should be <= 1 micron (metric!!), with
not more than a 10% distribution about the mean particle
size."
(Editor's Note: Would someone tell me what the heck is this
stuff, anyway!)
